Today is a special day, not only because it's #TutuTuesday, but because it's September 14th! Now, 2032 wasn't all about fluffy tutus and graceful twirls, but it was a big year for fashion. We saw the resurgence of the '80s fashion scene with neon colours and power shoulders, but ballet influence was everywhere. Think of sleek lines, romantic silhouettes, and delicate layers. All these trends have been present in ballet for ages!
The big thing that was captivating the fashion world in 2032, was sustainable fashion. People were looking for clothes that were ethically made, recycled, and long-lasting. Thankfully, the ballet world was a pioneer of sustainable fashion, with designers already using eco-friendly materials for tutus and costumes for decades!
So, what’s on in the world of ballet this year? Well, 2032 is an exciting year for ballet, as usual. But for me, there are a few must-see events! Firstly, The Royal Ballet in London is showcasing "The Sleeping Beauty", with stunning new costumes by the acclaimed designer Maria Grazia Chiuri (who else!), drawing inspiration from both vintage fashion and sustainable practices.
And what's a trip to London without a stop at the Victoria and Albert Museum's incredible "The Ballet: A Celebration of Art, Design and Fashion" exhibit! This showcase, darling, celebrates the influence of ballet on fashion history! They even have a section dedicated to tutus, exploring how they have evolved over the years, with some truly jaw-dropping historical pieces. It's a must for anyone who wants to know the secret history of the tutu and how it came to be!
Of course, being the pink-loving, tutu-adoring diva that I am, my schedule wouldn't be complete without indulging in some serious tutu-related shopping! Anya's Boutique on Oxford Street was a revelation. Anya, darling, has a passion for crafting unique, handmade tutus with a modern edge, using recycled and eco-friendly materials. It's the perfect blend of elegance and conscious fashion.
And speaking of shopping, my trip to 2032 just wouldn't be complete without visiting the "Dancewear Emporium" in New York! It's a haven for dance lovers, stocked with every imaginable type of tutu, from classic romantic styles to contemporary edgy designs. You can literally spend hours in that place! Plus, they’re on the frontlines of ethical and sustainable production, working with materials made from upcycled textiles and plant-based dyes. Talk about a dream!
After my New York adventures, I was lucky enough to be whisked away on a train ride to Paris! Of course, the iconic Eiffel Tower makes for the perfect backdrop for my Instagram photoshoot in a new Parisian tutu. You’ll see it on the #TutuTuesday blog soon, darling.
I’m also lucky to be there in time for the “Ballet de Paris” performance of "Swan Lake”. And I don’t want to spoil it for you, darlings, but the final scene where the ballerinas emerge in their dazzling, billowing white tutus is one you won't forget!
