Norwich - Pink Tutu Sparkle's Travels #19

Ooh, darling! I'm absolutely bubbling with excitement because I'm finally in Norwich! The air here is filled with a unique energy - just like the anticipation in a theatre just before the curtains rise! The cobblestone streets beckon me with tales of history and, I can feel it in my tutus, Norwich is ready for some Pink Tutu Sparkle magic!

This is post number 19 on my daily adventures! I know, I know, you’re all thinking: “Pink, you really do like to travel, don’t you? " And you know what? You’re absolutely right! A travelling tutu-wearing queen simply cannot stay put. There’s a world of pink and sparkles waiting for me, and I wouldn’t miss it for the world!

For this journey, I’m travelling by train. My darling mother (God love her) actually knitted me a magnificent pink travel blanket that I do use very occasionally - the train compartment, after all, can get a bit chilly. Oh, and speaking of chilly, that beautiful pink beret just makes a statement, don't you think? I mean, every travelling drag queen has a signature style, right?

As I boarded the train, a sweet gentleman in the carriage was wearing a beautifully crafted bow tie. It was the colour of rose petals at the beginning of summer, just the slightest bit faded. The type you know your mother had to choose as a birthday gift. The best thing is, I had to go and talk to him about it, of course. Now he knows that he is just the tip of a beautiful pink iceberg and how I can be an advocate of all the fabulous bow ties out there. You know me, I love to sprinkle magic in all my encounters! It was lovely, but as with most journeys, there were bumps in the road. I mean, just trying to carry all of my luggage was a task. One enormous travel case - packed to bursting point with tutus. This time, my travel case contained three pink tutus, two glittery gowns, a bevy of dazzling costumes, a pair of pink pumps with heels as high as a swan's neck, my glitter make-up, and one seriously enormous sparkly handbag for all my other essential glitz. Then, the travel-sized sewing kit! A good queen never travels without the essentials, you see! I can just see you at home reading this with wide eyes! But honestly darling, I've told you before, you simply can’t leave home without a sparkly handbag and sewing kit. Let me know if you want recommendations for yours! I think it might have to go on the wishlist…

Anyway, when I arrived in Norwich, it felt like stepping into a storybook. I saw a little street stall and, just my luck, it was covered in amazing pink flowers and some exquisite pastel ribbon that was made to make tutus with!

Now, it may just be the gorgeous architecture of this old city, or maybe just because of me, but my favourite place has to be Norwich Cathedral! Oh my gosh, you could say it was positively divine! The way the light poured in, the stonework – absolutely exquisite! Just the perfect spot for a dramatic twirl of a tutu and a quick dance! Now I know what you are thinking, dear readers - is it actually appropriate for me to be swirling in pink in a sacred space? But you know darling, as I’m here to help you break down barriers and celebrate the joy of wearing tutus! This wonderful cathedral is such a magical place that I don’t think anybody would bat an eyelid. Besides, everyone has to see that divine Pink Tutu Sparkle twirling to the music only her heart can hear, right? It was a little scary at first - my darling, I did have some internal debate as to whether to go in or not. I know this might seem out of character, but there’s a big girl hiding inside this Pink Tutu queen that's afraid to be judged sometimes, darling!

But here is what happened. As I went into the cathedral I heard a lovely old woman - her hair as white as clouds after a good storm - saying that this was one of the most important days of her life, because she was taking the next steps towards fulfilling her own dreams and had just enrolled to be a ballerina! Can you believe it! What a divine coincidence! I was so happy that this woman who seemed so lovely and down to earth, even if a little bit nervous about embarking on a new journey in life - yes, that's a pink tutu moment - is something to be celebrated. It was a real inspiration! Just what I needed!

Then of course I had to do a photoshoot, didn't I?! Because my Instagram feed has to show how stunning my visit to this amazing cathedral is, so I danced across the hallowed space to A Swan Lake song in my pink tutu, striking poses and soaking up the incredible atmosphere. That's why I made this little Instagram caption: "Twirling in the pinkest cathedral! #PinkTutuTravels #NorwichAdventures #BalletSoul #DivineTwirl " It’s great to have a hashtag because they really allow my little fan community to stay up-to-date with me, so that’s very important, it’s the most magical, amazing thing, don’t you think?

Later, I decided to venture into the streets of Norwich for some shopping. Now, I’m talking a serious shopping spree - for a new, even more magnificent, even bigger pink tutu, darling! There's so much inspiration here, but I don’t think it is quite right just yet... Maybe I’m looking for something different, or a bit more magical for my stage wardrobe. My pink collection needs a refresh, that’s all. That’s the one thing a good queen never gets sick of – expanding their pink-tutu-licious collection, of course. You just never know when you're going to come across a new thing, so you just have to take the chance. What if a perfect tutu for my next show was hidden behind a few aisles?! I wouldn’t want to miss that chance! It would be a travesty! Oh, just thinking about the endless possibilities is sending chills of excitement through me. Especially if I’m looking for new fabrics! And you know what? I’m even starting to think I could just stay in Norwich, you know? It’s like totally becoming part of my DNA!

To continue with the shopping extravaganza, I ventured into the shops. Let me just tell you, darling - Norwich was just what my wardrobe was yearning for! I mean, if you know your Pink Tutu Sparkle, you know what that means. After finding some lovely stores, I walked into the changing rooms with this enormous pink ballgown! Honestly darling, if it could be worn with a pink tutu then I'm totally buying it, don't you think? After that little shopping adventure I took a walk by the river and had the loveliest fish and chips (that were almost entirely pink and covered in glitter… I may have overdone the sparkle, just a wee bit.)

Oh! I completely forgot to mention - you simply cannot leave Norwich without checking out their iconic market! My goodness, I was completely spoilt for choice! I swear every stall was selling something amazing and pink – not really, I’m joking darling - it’s not all pink! And darling, there’s something really sweet about Norwich: The genuinely good atmosphere of their little stall holders - just being genuinely happy to have you on their street, and that’s worth a massive sprinkle of glitter in my opinion!

When it was time to say goodbye to Norwich I had the strangest feeling... This was not the last time I would visit. As I boarded my pink-tu-tu covered train and bid farewell to this lovely city, I looked back at it, full of sparkle and energy, and thought "Norwich, you stole a piece of my pink heart! You made my travelling tutu-wearing dreams come true!"

For the next journey I’m off on, I think I will look into some options to help me get around and have much more adventure - possibly horse riding? Just thinking about the idea, and the wind in my tutu as I ride a majestic steed towards the horizon - makes my soul want to sing! Until my next post - I love you all very, very, much - pinkly of course.
