Luton: Tutu Adventures in Bedfordshire! 🩰💖

Hey darlings! It's Pink Tutu Sparkles, reporting live from… Luton! 🎉 You heard that right, the magical land of Luton, where the trains whizz and the windmills turn. This is blog post number 20, a little milestone in my Tutu Travels diary. I wouldn't be here, rocking a magnificent pink tutu in Bedfordshire, without your fabulous support, so a big thank you to each and every one of you!

This whole drag journey began a little over a year ago, when your girl Alex, the scientist-by-day and tutu-queen-by-night, found herself twirling in a fluffy pink tutu for a university charity event. It was an accident, really. Just one little, harmless whirl… but it set my heart aflame!

My true colours (literally) were finally shining through. It wasn't just the tutu; it was the joy, the sparkle, the chance to escape the confines of lab coats and spreadsheets. From that moment on, Pink Tutu Sparkles was born, and my mission: To spread the joy of the tutu across the land. It’s not just about tutus, you see, it's about expressing yourself, celebrating life's little miracles, and, yes, making the world a more pink-hued, twirling place!

I’m always searching for the next adventure, and Luton seemed the perfect place to make a splash (or a twirl!). It was a journey back to my Derbyshire roots (and my Mum’s amazing cheese and pickle sandwiches) by train – something a little different, with an old-school romantic touch!

Now, this blog isn’t just about me and my tutu travels; it's about you, the fabulous followers, who share this journey with me. I love hearing about your adventures, seeing your own pink tutus and hearing your tutu-wearing dreams!

Anyway, enough of this chat! Let’s dive into what made Luton, a town renowned for its hat factories and the world’s first shopping centre (which, I confess, had a special charm, even if it is a tad bit passé!), a truly enchanting experience for Pink Tutu Sparkles…

First Stop: Luton Town Hall & The Art Deco Elegance

My first destination was a breathtaking art deco building - the Luton Town Hall. Stepping inside, it was like a time machine journey back to the 1930s! I just had to make a splash – or rather, a twirl - with a flamboyant pose beneath the intricate stained glass windows and dazzling chandeliers. Of course, it’s practically illegal for Pink Tutu Sparkles to NOT be on stage, and let me tell you, Luton Town Hall played the part of my personal theatre spectacularly.

Luton Culture: Museum and Art

Who knew that Luton housed such a stunning gem as the Wardown House Museum? It’s a beautifully preserved Victorian mansion, a little bit stately home, a bit English countryside manor and, get this, it boasts the nation’s largest collection of Victorian toys – truly remarkable. Now, as someone who absolutely adores teddy bears and plush wonders, I spent way more time in that museum than I intended! I even did a little tutu ballet to a group of awed schoolchildren (I told you, I can't help myself).

Fashion Inspiration on the Luton Streets

I love the juxtaposition of vintage glamour and a vibrant urban vibe, and this was exactly the vibe I encountered in Luton. I always have my eyes peeled for inspiration for the next tutu creation, and I gotta say, there were some absolute gems – quirky independent shops showcasing funky vintage fashions, local fashion designers adding a touch of edgy coolness, and yes, a sprinkle of tutus along the way (always encouraging more!).

* A Ballet Blitz at The Stockwood Discover Centre*

One of my ultimate goals, and the driving force behind Pink Tutu Sparkles, is to bring the magical joy of ballet to everyone! So you can imagine my delight when I discovered the Stockwood Discover Centre - it was basically an open-air museum, full of hidden treasures! And as if by some magnificent act of cosmic ballet alignment, it was hosting a Ballet workshop! Needless to say, I shimmied my way in, with a full pink tutu-outfit, for a dance class – the thrill was real, with children and adults joining in on the dance-fueled frenzy. I have to say, Luton was definitely my dance-a-thon wonderland.

A Touch of Bedfordshire (and Pink, of Course!)

The journey back to Derbyshire on that comfy train ride gave me plenty of time to reflect on all the amazing experiences of Luton! It wasn't just about the pink tutus, the flamboyant poses, the sparkling dance performances (and a whole lot of twirling, obviously!), it was about discovering something new, breaking free from expectations, and most importantly, sharing that joy with everyone. Bedfordshire may be best known for its straw hat industry and Bedfordshire lace (truly charming and I'm wearing a fabulous hat right now!), but for Pink Tutu Sparkles, it was a haven for tutus, dancing, and most importantly, that unmistakable pink-tinted, tutu-filled joy!

Until my next tutu escapade, stay fabulous and never forget – it’s a tutu-tastic world out there, full of shimmering opportunities and dreams waiting to be realised. 💖
