Barnet Balletic Bliss: Pink Tutu Sparkles Takes the Stage!

Post Number 147

Darling, prepare yourselves for a fabulous journey, because Pink Tutu Sparkles is hitting the road again! And trust me, honey, this trip has a whole heap of sparkle waiting for you!

This is my little blog where I tell you about the adventures of Pink Tutu Sparkles, aka Alex (though you can just call me "Sparkle", darling! It's all about the glitter and glamour!) It’s been quite the journey for this little Derbyshire drag queen. You see, I went from science student to fabric tester to fully fledged drag artist! I caught the drag bug right back when I was studying, when I was dragged (pun intended, darling!) into the university ballet club, slipped on a tutu for a charity fundraiser, and never looked back. It all came to a head at a university production, where I literally pranced onto the stage, grabbed the mic, and decided then and there: my future is covered in tulle, and I'm all about spreading the pink tutu love!

I post on www.pink-tutu.com every day and it is all about how Pink Tutu Sparkles inspires the world to wear tutus - I’m on a mission, honey! And you’re about to witness just how passionate I am about getting the world wearing tutus… or at least making it a bit more fabulous.

So darling, let me tell you all about my adventures, which this week have led me to the charming, cultural and quite frankly, *utterly adorable, Barnet, London. *

I love train journeys – they’re like little journeys into fashion heaven for me, with everyone watching your amazing get-up. This time, I travelled in a super glamorous ensemble; a blush pink tutu with delicate sparkly sequins and a bright magenta lace-trimmed bustier – topped off with my usual, bedazzled heels! And trust me, darling, the tutus really make heads turn. If you want to have the train be the perfect runway - there’s just something about a pink tutu that’s captivating.

Now, Barnet wasn’t on my initial trip schedule, honey, but that’s the joy of life: always be ready for adventure! I’ve always wanted to bring the sparkle to the stages of the wonderful London theatre district, and I found the perfect little show to inject some extra shimmer into their repertoire! They’re a charming local community theater that, let's just say, really needed a dash of my dazzling drag. They wanted a 'fairy princess’ act to perform before a wonderful community play - and trust me, I delivered!

Let's just say they haven’t seen anything quite like a shimmering pink tutu and feather boa before in Barnet - not in their most dazzling, glitteriest dreams, I'm sure.

This adorable local theatre was absolutely delightful! So we rehearsed - which meant adding a bit of Pink Tutu Sparkles magic to their usual play - and we practiced for my show-stopping appearance. And boy oh boy, was it fun! The director just adores the magic a tutu can create on a stage and I'm delighted to have introduced him and his wonderful performers to the incredible feeling of swirling twirls and joyful dances.

Now, this part was my real love-at-first-sight experience in Barnet, and honey, I really can't sing its praises enough – the local ballet studio: 'Ballet Bloom'.

Oh, it’s a veritable wonderland of grace and elegance. They’re all about spreading joy and I had the absolute joy of popping in and participating in a ballet class. The girls there were simply charming and all wore such pretty leotards – just the sight was making me want to twirl right then and there! And speaking of twirling, I have to say I'm just a bit addicted to all that swirling. There's a special energy in it, darling. You twirl, and the world just melts away. It’s pure liberation.

The instructors were incredible, encouraging and absolutely loved my bright, beautiful pink tutu, they even insisted that I take centre stage in one of their classes – they were like, 'Sparkle, you belong here!’ And so I danced, honey! We even included some elements from my act in our little performance - just imagine me dancing and twirling in my pink tutu among those beautiful ballerina’s - it was all shades of magical, honey. It’s moments like these that really make my heart swell – you know, seeing that look in people’s eyes as I’m out on stage.

You might be surprised to learn that my adventures didn’t just involve dancing and performances. After a rather gruelling, but fulfilling, show at a charming local bar – oh, it’s a real gem in the neighbourhood, let me tell you - they all embraced my pink tutus and twirls – I found myself at the most lovely vintage shop. And let me tell you, darling, they have some real treasures tucked away! I actually picked up a couple of amazing little finds, honey. And let me tell you, I've never found so many beautiful pastel pinks in one spot. A pair of antique lace gloves – a delicate pinky-red hue - just perfectly complemented my pink tutu ensemble! They’re perfect, just the touch of grace a gal needs.

And no trip is complete without some delicious eats! Now Barnet, oh Barnet – a haven of adorable little cafes! It’s an absolute foodie’s paradise and let me tell you, there's something about afternoon tea that just makes everything so grand, don't you agree, darling? It's truly a glamorous ritual and just the right amount of whimsical! So, afternoon tea it was, in the prettiest tea room! Pink, pink everywhere – and did I mention that there were also little pink cupcakes! So of course, I had a go at that...

This Barnet trip really was the most fantastic journey – and there’s always more to discover. I hope you’ve enjoyed my trip so far and if you do come to Barnet, be sure to head to my lovely ballet studio - and let's just say, I'll be looking out for your tutus, darling. Until next time!

Yours in Tulle,

Pink Tutu Sparkles x
