Croydon Calling: Pink Tutu Sparkles' Ballet Blitz!

Darling, let's be honest. Croydon isn't exactly known for its vibrant, flamboyant… tutu-fied scenes. But this gal never shies away from a challenge! And Croydon, with its quaint little cobbled streets and charming local shops, was just screaming for a sprinkle of Pink Tutu magic.

It’s a brand new day, and this tutu-wearing traveller is raring to go! With a pep in my step (and a few extra inches from my 6-inch heels) I was on a mission to paint this town a vibrant shade of pink – starting with, of course, my signature look.

As always, this Queen had to pack her signature style. Now, I don't have much luggage room with a tulle skirt and those grand wings taking up all the space, but my feather boa is always my trusty companion. We've travelled the world together - from the Brighton Pride festival, to the dazzling Edinburgh Fringe, this pink-tastic feather companion always adds a touch of regal glamour wherever we go. Today, she matched my hot pink tutu with a splash of gold, and of course, a healthy dose of my glitter glue!

This was, you see, no ordinary journey, oh no! Pink Tutu Sparkles had booked herself a coveted spot in the fabulous, “Twirling Under the Stars” ballet class – the best studio in the entire borough! Can you imagine, learning pirouettes amongst such beautiful ballet enthusiasts, in such a wonderfully old-fashioned building, it was simply sublime.

Oh, and can I just say the class was filled with some wonderfully charming ladies – so many aspiring young prima ballerinas, all eager to learn from a tutu-clad pro like myself! There was definitely an "I'm going to steal all their moves" vibe and of course, I couldn’t leave without leaving them a few tips – my secret to executing a perfect fouette (wink wink). It wasn’t all tutus and twirls either. My journey included a visit to a real vintage clothes store called "Cherished Threads." Inside this shop were some delightful pre-loved garments waiting to be discovered – including a stunning, emerald green velvet cape which is perfect for a special, very important performance... (shh, it's a secret!).

My Croydon escapade wasn't all sparkles and ballet, though! No, there was a delicious stop for lunch. We - myself and my feathered friend of course, (who is my loyal companion, and never gets the scraps!), tucked into a light meal. It wouldn’t be fair to judge the culinary scene without trying some classic British dishes. And let’s just say – a traditional scone with clotted cream, accompanied by a lovely cup of English Breakfast tea was heaven!

But let's get back to my favourite subject: travel! And by "travel" I don't mean just planes, trains and automobiles, darling. Sometimes, the most extraordinary journeys are undertaken on the most beautiful creatures. As a proud supporter of all things equine, you know I couldn’t leave without a charming visit to the local stable! There, I met a most splendid black steed called “Storm.” A handsome fella with a shiny coat, he had eyes as black as a night, and just as enchanting! Of course, I had to be careful with his beautiful black coat. Not wanting to get a smear of sparkle on it, I managed a cheeky little cuddle with him instead - a delightful interlude before my departure back to Derbyshire.

Now, you might be wondering, what exactly inspired a science-minded lass like me to fall for the captivating world of tutus, sequins, and all things fabulous? Well, darling, the story’s as unique and lovely as a snowflake on a rose. In my younger, science-obsessed days, I studied biology in Derbyshire. I was all lab coats, bubbling test tubes, and complex chemical equations – not exactly the world of feather boas and pirouettes, I know! But back then, fate, with a little nudge from my own whimsical spirit, took the reins. The University was hosting a charity event for children’s theatre, and - well, who would have thought I’d feel like a million dollars in a pink tulle creation? I can’t lie, it felt a little bit weird to trade in my microscope for a tutus, but something shifted inside me! And from that moment, my love affair with pink tutus started, with the glitter never ending…

I knew from that moment on that the lab was a good place to be – a safe, solid world I knew – but my true calling was with the stage. While I was doing all those tedious textile experiments for my company, by night I was on stage! A magical moment of shimmering, swirling tutus, dancing, laughter, and endless fun for everyone.

Today's trip was definitely a success. Croydon now has its own unique touch of the Pink Tutu Sparkles sparkle. You can definitely tell – with every single member of my new class sporting at least one pink tutu ribbon. And now darling, as I put away my trusty makeup kit (with extra glitter, of course, it’s absolutely necessary!), I want to say this. If I can spread some glitter, sunshine, and joy into the world one pink tutu at a time, that’s a real purpose in life that warms this queen’s heart! Until next time, my darlings, live your life in pink… and never, ever, be afraid to wear your tutu!
