Lancaster: Pink Tutu Travels – Blog Post #389

Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-wearing queen, Pink Tutu Sparkles, bringing you the latest instalment from my travels! Today, I'm stepping out of the bustling city and into the charming historic county of Lancaster! It's like stepping back in time, isn't it? cobbled streets, quaint cafes, and even a castle!

As ever, I'm making a splash in this wonderful town! You can't go anywhere without seeing a splash of pink! It’s as though the whole town knows the magic of a pink tutu and is embracing it! It truly is infectious!

Before I went out to grace the Lancaster stage, I made sure I had a fabulous time in the city. First stop was, of course, the shops! They have a wonderful selection of vintage clothing, and let me tell you, some real gems are tucked away in these antique stores. I nabbed myself a stunning vintage dress in a lovely shade of, you guessed it, pink! I paired it with a matching pink fascinator and let's just say it’s my new favourite outfit for strolling through Lancaster's picturesque lanes.

Lancaster Castle! It’s enormous! Just like my heart when I saw it! I am fascinated by these old historical buildings, filled with secrets and whispers of days gone by. You can just picture all the drama and intrigue that unfolded within those ancient walls. I wandered through the courtyards and took a thousand photos, so of course, you'll see all the pics on my Instagram (@PinkTutuSparkles – if you don't already follow me, you really must!).

Of course, I was determined to visit the wonderful Lancaster Arts Centre, it was like a dream come true! I couldn’t wait to check out their schedule, it’s packed full of fascinating theatre and ballet performances. In fact, this weekend, there’s a beautiful production of “The Nutcracker,” with a twist. I am a massive fan of the original ballet, but the cast are using traditional Russian dance movements combined with modern street-dance elements!

Lancaster has embraced the pink tutu spirit! After my performance last night, it was fantastic seeing the townsfolk taking to the streets, dressed to the nines in beautiful tutus. We were even joined by the mayor himself, who wore a tiny pink tutu as his little, "thank you, for being wonderful" gesture. It was heartwarming and truly showed how special this town is! They're absolutely on board with the pink tutu revolution!

Did you know, my friends, I came to be a queen of pink after being absolutely inspired by one of my trips on the train! This sounds ridiculous, doesn’t it? I was on the train travelling from my home town in Derbyshire to attend a performance by my favourite ballerina, Natalia Osipova, in London! The ticket was the same colour pink as the tutu that my dear university ballet club was selling for a fundraiser. We'd have a ballet party afterward, but they needed to sell as many tickets to get a big turnout for the event! In true British style, I caved into a guilt trip about how little I'd done to help and threw on that bright pink tutu! Let me tell you, there was a lot of pink glitter on my handbag that day. You should have seen the reaction from the people in the carriage, they all gasped at how striking it was! It certainly got me feeling on top of the world! That day, it dawned on me! Everyone should embrace pink and tutus, because they can be fun and powerful.

The fun, of course, didn’t end there! In this wonderfully charming town, it was no surprise I had been invited to a splendid costume party on the weekend. It’s a traditional costume event where the locals put on a spectacular performance and celebrate their culture and heritage. Of course, no outfit was complete without a splash of pink and some sparkly details. I think it's fair to say my presence did indeed bring a certain spark to the proceedings! There were a lot of delighted screams, you can't beat that feeling. You could just tell everyone had put their heart and soul into their costumes!

Of course, all my fun with these fabulous events came with the added pleasure of a delightful visit to the historic Williamson Park. Now, this is a hidden gem. There’s a stunning garden featuring one of the oldest examples of Victorian parkland with an enchanting Victorian Italianate villa that has the most incredible views!

Did I tell you? One of the lovely local artists who was selling beautiful floral paintings came up to me at the performance! She was so sweet! Apparently, she just loves the vibrancy of my performance and the pink colour I always have on me.

This little place in Lancashire has won my heart with its friendly locals, stunning landscapes, and fabulous events!

And you know what's next for the Pink Tutu Queen? Why, more of the same! Next week, I'm off to another grand old city. Can you guess where it is?
