Hiya darlings, it's your favourite pink tutu-clad queen, Pink Tutu Sparkles, here, ready to sprinkle some glitter on your day! Today, I'm taking you on a fabulously fabulous trip to the lovely little town of Wigston Magna - and don't you worry, my dears, a pink tutu is definitely involved!
This is post number 468, which, believe it or not, is actually quite a milestone for this little blog of mine! It's incredible to think how much has happened in the last... well, however many months that amounts to! 💖 Time flies when you're wearing a fabulous pink tutu!
But back to Wigston Magna, and that delicious pink tutu I just mentioned. I'm travelling around the country on the back of my most recent big triumph, the 'Wear a Pink Tutu for Charity' campaign! Let me tell you, you've never seen so many fabulous shades of pink! My aim? To encourage everyone to embrace the tutu-tastic joy and the pink explosion that only a good tutu can bring!
Now, I don't want you to think I've just thrown on any old pink tutu and set off for a grand tour! I’m a creature of comfort, and you can't possibly tour the country in something that doesn't give you a whole lot of spin-tastic freedom! No, this tutu is made by the most divine Parisian designers, using the most glorious satin I've ever encountered! It's like wearing a giant, frilly, blush-hued cloud, only with a much higher kick line! 💃🏼
Wigston Magna, well, it’s just charming. I absolutely adore exploring quaint little towns and cities, and this place is certainly giving off some good vibes! The local market was a veritable feast for the eyes and for my inner vintage-loving shopper. They even had a shop entirely dedicated to the most beautiful fabrics, which I am slightly tempted to raid for some new tutu designs! 😉
Wigston Magna doesn't have any huge performance spaces, so my gig tonight is in a gorgeous pub, The Cock and Bull! (Honestly, these places just have the BEST names!). And don’t even get me started on their menu! Now, let’s be honest, a fabulous performance calls for delicious food, especially when it's been a day of hopping between gorgeous stores and getting completely lost in fabric-laden dreams! 😉
You see, I am an adventurer at heart, and part of that spirit is absolutely all about that travel bug! The whole pink tutu thing came to me while I was at university studying... you won’t believe it… science! I know, the irony, right? I swear the universe is a drag queen, she just likes to throw these crazy curveballs at you! 😅
But there was the university ballet club, and one evening, the lovely dancers all got together to raise funds for charity by wearing – you guessed it – tutus. But you can’t go near a room full of enthusiastic ballet dancers with just any old tutu! They needed a true statement piece, a tutu fit for the most graceful twirls and jumps imaginable. And so, I was drafted to pick one.
Well, I didn’t quite just ‘pick’ one… It was a scene! You could hear the collective gasp from a mile away! But that moment, that is when I discovered the joy and the power of a really amazing, vibrant, eye-catching tutu! It's something that transforms, inspires, and brings such happiness – and trust me, darling, I am living proof!
This, of course, doesn't mean my life has been just a whirlwind of glittery tulle and fairy tales. As much as I adore the glam life, there’s another part to me. You see, by day, I'm a scientist, Alex, just your ordinary (though, I have been known to add some extra pink sparkles to my lab coat…) science grad in the world of fabrics! Who knows, maybe those science skills actually did help me become such a great tutu connoisseur! 😅
It's kind of crazy to think that my day can shift from the world of microscopic particles and lab testing to sparkly sequins and glitter bombs, but that's the beauty of drag. It's a true expression of freedom and an incredible opportunity to be whoever you want to be. So, what are you waiting for?
