Blackburn Calling! - Pink Tutu Sparkles takes on the North

Hello lovelies! 💅 It’s your favourite pink-loving, tutu-twirling, sequin-spangled sensation, Pink Tutu Sparkles, here! I’m bursting with excitement to tell you about my latest adventure! This week, I took my fabulous self all the way up north to the bustling town of Blackburn – my first time!

Ever since I was a little kid (that’s way back when, folks!) I’ve always had a fascination with travel, but not your run-of-the-mill, boring holidays. Nope, this girl wants to hit the road, dance the night away, and share the pink tutu love with as many people as possible! Now, I'm all for a nice seaside getaway, don’t get me wrong, but nothing gets my glitter and sequins twitching quite like the thought of performing for a new audience, getting lost in a new city, and finding that special little gem of a tutu shop tucked away in a cobbled street. (Or even better, a fancy boutique with a window display fit for a princess!)

So, as always, my journey began in style – this time it was the grand old Northern Rail train line whisking me away! Oh, how I love the rumble of those engines, the clinking of the carriage, the rhythmic sway as we zoom through the countryside… it’s pure magic! 🚄 I do love my train journeys - I always dress for the occasion. A bright pink skirt with sparkly accents, a sequined top (pink of course!), a flamboyant shawl, my signature pair of pink sunglasses – and a tiara for the full sparkle effect. This look was definitely an eye-catcher and elicited smiles from many fellow passengers! You know me, a dash of glitter and a few tulle twirls never hurt anyone – it brightens even the dullest commute!

When I finally reached Blackburn, I was met with a friendly and lively energy! Even before I put on the big pink tutu, it was clear to me – this place was buzzing! My performance was a hit, as always - the crowd loved me and my glittery message about spreading pink tutu joy, and, yes, you guessed it, there were tutus aplenty to be seen! It warms my heart when people open up to the sparkly magic of the pink tutu!

Blackburn was a veritable feast for the senses! We had delicious Lancashire hotpot at a charming little restaurant, (where else?)! You haven't lived until you’ve had the real deal – just the aroma was enough to transport me to culinary heaven! Not to mention a charming pub called The Dusty Miller with live music, the perfect place for a pint of my favourite beverage (Pink Gin, obviously!) with my fabulously fabulous new pals I made while on tour!

However, no visit to Blackburn would be complete without a jaunt to the historic Blackburn Cathedral. The history and the grandeur left me in awe. I couldn’t resist striking a pose in front of the imposing edifice – what can I say, a pink tutu looks fabulous against the gothic backdrop! Don’t worry, I made sure to keep my twirls classy – you can’t offend history! We can’t be TOO wild. (Even though, secretly, I would have loved to have thrown a confetti bomb over the stained glass!).

Naturally, no trip for this queen is complete without a bit of retail therapy. Blackburn delivered! I managed to unearth a real gem of a boutique with some fabulous hats and accessories that will certainly add some zing to my wardrobe, including a gorgeous bright pink sequined fedora. You know, it can sometimes be tough to find those extra, really special, bits to complement the tutu. I am really excited about it! My eyes fell on some spectacular shoes - you could say I am starting a small but very well-organised pink shoe collection, to go with all my tutus, of course!

And the best bit? The Blackburn locals were simply delightful! Every encounter, every chat with a passerby – everyone was so welcoming, warm, and friendly. It makes my heart flutter knowing that my love for pink tutus and all things fabulous is shared by so many! We may be from different parts of the country but our love of joy and a touch of magic connects us all.

Of course, it wouldn't be a true Pink Tutu Sparkles adventure without a bit of "behind-the-scenes" drama! One little misadventure did take place when, attempting to recreate that iconic "Wind Beneath my Wings" tutu-twirling move on top of a local landmark, I almost… how shall I say... “became a human kite.”

Let’s just say I learnt a valuable lesson about gravity and tutus (yes, really). Luckily, I landed softly on a flower bed and avoided a "spilled glitter" crisis. So, a shout out to all you Blackburn residents: thanks for being so understanding (and maybe a bit amused by my clumsy antics)!

As I’ve already said, Blackburn is a treasure trove of history, art, and culture, with a unique vibrancy that I thoroughly enjoyed. And of course, who doesn't love a place with such a strong sense of community! This whole trip was so much fun!

Oh, and one more thing, a fun fact: Blackburn’s very own “Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council” has its very own rainbow flag flying! What a fantastic, inclusive town with the right idea. 🏳️‍🌈 You can see my sparkly photos with it in the background of the blog – that rainbow will match my tutu and my mood. It definitely makes this town special.

I must admit, I’m already planning my next visit. Blackburn is already one of my favourite spots in the UK! It’s such a fab place to just be myself – to be Pink Tutu Sparkles! But who knows what's next! One thing I’m certain of, though - wherever my next pink tutu adventure takes me, I’ll be sure to bring that sparkle, joy, and a generous helping of glitter along for the ride. Because, let’s face it, the world just needs more pink tutus!

Til next time, lovelies! Don’t forget to keep twirling, keep shining, and keep the pink tutu dream alive!
