Today, we're taking a little trip down memory lane, revisiting one of my absolute favourite performances. You know me, I just adore sharing stories and experiences, and I couldn't let this particular adventure slip away into the archives! Buckle up, babes, this one's a real hoot!
The year was 2003, and Bicester was calling. You might remember this post from back in the day, when my travels were all about building my reputation as a travelling tutu queen! Remember those early days, the jitters, the excitement, the utter thrill of being a fresh-faced performer on the drag scene? Back then, it was all about finding those hidden gems, those little venues where you could just be yourself, experiment, and make magic.
Well, Bicester, oh Bicester, you certainly played a special role in my journey! It wasn't your usual grand, glamorous stage. No, darling, it was a charming, bustling little fairground – you know the kind, filled with those exciting smells of freshly-made candyfloss and burgers, and the cheerful shouts of excited children. I knew then and there that I'd found a perfect setting for my act – playful, cheeky, and a dash of theatrical charm to bring a little sparkle to the whole affair.
This wasn't just a gig, it was an experience. You see, darling, Bicester isn't your usual theatre scene, it's got this real down-to-earth, community feel, a little bit rough around the edges, but brimming with warmth and kindness. The locals are always up for a good time, and that energy really seeped into my act that day. I felt like I could truly be myself, embraced for the sassy, glitzy performer I am!
My heart was aflutter as I prepared for the performance. A whirl of colours, sequins, and tulle. I can't deny it, pink is my passion, it's just so happy. A fabulous ensemble, all meticulously hand-crafted – every detail chosen for impact! From the shimmery pink sequined bodysuit to the fluffiest, most fabulous tutu ever, to the perfectly placed rhinestones. My confidence bloomed alongside each piece I put on!
And let me tell you, darling, my stage make-up that day? Absolute masterpiece! Think dramatic eyelashes, perfectly arched eyebrows, a generous touch of pink blush, and my signature bright pink lipstick! A look that’s part whimsical, part sassy, and definitely unforgettable! It was the embodiment of a sweet, mischievous spirit with just a hint of wild child, and the crowd went wild!
When I took to the stage, it wasn’t just about the dazzling performance, the dazzling costume, or the witty banter. It was about connection. It was about seeing the faces light up, witnessing the children laugh with glee as I sashayed and spun, the grown-ups' surprised smiles, the couples dancing along to my set. That’s the magic of it all, darling. The pure joy of connecting, the magic of letting go and celebrating a shared love of a little sparkle!
Oh, and my act itself, that's something you'd just have to have seen to truly appreciate. Think dazzling spins, graceful moves inspired by ballet, and plenty of cheeky jokes that brought down the house. We were all singing and dancing together. I can't imagine a more wonderful audience!
For someone like me, born and bred in Derbyshire, the magic of Bicester truly touched me. You know, this wasn't your usual big city spotlight. The simplicity of the place, the open-air, the energy of the fair, all came together in such a joyful, genuine way. I truly felt like I was right at home, making memories with people from all walks of life!
Bicester will always hold a special place in my heart! You see, for someone who finds such joy in traveling, being able to share those experiences and spread a bit of my pink-tutu magic along the way? That’s what truly makes it all worth it!
