Deal: Post 1511 – Tutu Queen on the Kent Coast

Hello, darlings! Your Tutu Queen here, fresh from a glorious trip to the Kent coast! I was just SO excited to be whisking my way down to Deal on the train, all swished up in a bright pink tulle masterpiece, my very own tutu queen uniform. A pink fluffy shawl, perfectly colour-matched to the ruffles on my tutu, made the journey oh so comfortable, and I kept receiving the sweetest compliments from fellow travellers. You wouldn’t believe how much people LOVE to talk to a pink tutu-wearing queen!

You know I have a bit of a thing for a good railway journey – nothing beats the satisfying clunk-clunk-clunk of the train, a perfectly hot cuppa from the trolley, and the wind whistling past the carriage windows, taking you on a magical journey of anticipation and excitement. And oh, the scenery! Green fields flashing by, a glimpse of a river glinting in the sun, those glimpses of the sea … it makes the travelling heart sing.

When I arrived in Deal, the salty air had a completely different feeling to it than Derbyshire’s breeze – it’s not just the sea that adds that special magic, it’s the energy of this seaside town. It’s history in the cobblestone streets, the whispers of shipyards and smugglers, the seaside charm … and, of course, the magnificent pier, one of my absolute favourite seaside landmarks.

My performance in Deal was in the Mermaid Hotel’s Grand Hall, an absolute dream for a show! I twirled under the glistening chandelier, my tutu catching the light as I danced to a medley of songs from the stage adaptation of “The Little Mermaid”. It was simply divine! My dress that evening was the most decadent pink creation, layered with feathers and sequins, complete with a hand-stitched tulle bow that shimmered like a rainbow. I simply had to have a good old-fashioned photoshoot in the hotel’s beautiful garden with its colourful flowers and manicured bushes, a fitting backdrop for my Tutu Queen regalia!

Oh, and speaking of outfits, my darling, I spent a day on the Deal High Street scouring for vintage gems! Now, if there’s one thing I absolutely love, it’s a treasure hunt! The shops in Deal are simply bursting with treasures - quaint boutiques overflowing with trinkets, the old book shop full of hidden treasures, a stall with antique maps – I managed to find an absolutely magnificent pink feather boa – it’s perfect for my upcoming performances! I could have spent the entire day getting lost in those shops, but the sound of my name being called across the bustling street brought me back down to earth!

Now, here’s where I surprised myself a little… Deal’s lovely harbour was buzzing with activity, and guess what I saw! A little horse drawn carriage! I’ve got to tell you, the allure of the old-fashioned style with a beautiful black horse, sleek carriage, and the gentle trot through town – simply enchanting. Now, let’s be honest, a black horse and a pink tutu-wearing drag queen – it’s a recipe for hilarity and I absolutely had to try it! I was so delighted that the coachman let me join him, and what a delightful, memorable way to experience the charm of this little seaside town.

Let me tell you, after the whirlwind of a trip to Deal, my head was spinning from the experience, I was absolutely in my element! I must say, Kent, you have a special place in my heart.

If you’re looking for a delightful day out by the sea, darling, I highly recommend adding Deal to your travel itinerary! It’s charming, colourful, and you never know who you might bump into - or see dancing in a pink tutu on the pier!
