Bletchley Bound: Tutu Time Travels!

#1731: September 26th, 2004

Helloooo, darlings! It's your girl Pink Tutu Sparkles here, reporting live from the utterly glamorous (and slightly damp) platform at Bletchley station. I know, I know, you're thinking "Bletchley?! Not exactly a glamorous destination," but hold your horses, darlings, because this little excursion is packed with tutu-tastic potential. And as for my outfits... well, let's just say it's been a fabulously pink and feathered affair, fit for a queen, naturally.

It all started last week, as I was skimming through my usual round of performance venues and spotted a peculiar entry. Apparently, the annual "Bletchley Fair" was happening, and they were offering a hefty sum to anyone willing to don some glitter and entertain the good people of Buckinghamshire! You know me, darlings, I can never resist a bit of a travelling opportunity, and this one was screaming "Pink Tutu" all the way. So, with a dash of lip gloss, a wiggle of my fabulous rump, and my trusty luggage full of tutus (because, well, one can never be too prepared!), I boarded the train to Bletchley.

Now, I won't lie, darlings, Bletchley is definitely on the quieter side. But trust me, a true drag queen finds beauty in every corner, even if it takes a little bit of creative imagination. The station itself was a delightful sight. You wouldn't believe the amazing brickwork, like something straight out of a Jane Austen novel. And as I strolled past the floral displays and quaint old-world pubs, I felt like I had stepped into a scene from my favourite Jane Austen adaptation. (Seriously, wouldn't Miss Bennet look absolutely fabulous in a pink tutu?! It's practically begging to be worn with a swoon-worthy bodice and a delightful bonnet.)

I took a detour, naturally, and found the most darling shop called "The Old Curiosity Emporium". Now, darling, this place was a gold mine of treasures! It had dusty antique furniture, trinkets and books, oh my! The best part, though? They had a collection of vintage lace trim that just screamed "Pink Tutu!" and was practically calling out to be sewn onto my newest creation. The shop owner, a charming older gent called Mr. Higgins, gave me the warmest welcome and regaled me with tales of Bletchley’s history and all the hidden gems this little town holds. He even shared a fascinating anecdote about Bletchley's involvement in the Second World War. Can you believe it, darling? All that secret code-breaking going on, and all the while, some little queen like me was busy thinking about the perfect pink tutu to go with her next performance!

Then, of course, I ventured onto the bustling, bustling, Bletchley Fairground. It was an explosion of colours, aromas, and sounds. Children’s laughter intermingled with the rhythmic clang of the dodgems and the hypnotic tune of the merry-go-round, the faint scent of freshly baked bread battling with the sugary aroma of cotton candy and candy floss. The people were friendly, smiling and engaging with every sparkly bit of pinkness that was Pink Tutu Sparkles! I, of course, managed to turn heads in my outfit – a delicate pink tutu with shimmering ombre fabric and a feathered boa as bright as the afternoon sun, accentuated by a little black sequined jacket and my trusty, glittery platform shoes. It wasn’t my biggest performance outfit, but in that moment, I knew it was the perfect one to make Bletchley feel fabulous.

As the evening approached, I took a leisurely walk to the market square. Bletchley has these beautiful cobblestone walkways that sparkled in the setting sun – talk about a beautiful background for my "Queen on the Go" Instagram snaps. (I got several wonderful shots that I'll post soon, my dears, don’t you worry! You know I love a good photo op!) I had some delectable cream tea in the market square and felt like I’d finally got my inner Jane Austen sorted, then I decided to find the performance area where my Bletchley Fair fate awaited.

There I was, in the heart of the market, under a canopy of twinkling fairy lights and ready to dazzle. I could already see some excited faces, mesmerised by my entrance. And you know me, darling, I’m not afraid of a good time – I performed every bit of the repertoire with my usual dose of fierce confidence. I even gave them a few pink-tastic impromptu dance moves and shimmied my way through an uplifting mix of dance pop classics. I think it’s fair to say I left Bletchley, if not permanently “pinkified”, with a very happy audience, and of course a purse full of sparkly coin for my troubles. And I? Well, I’ll leave you with my motto for any occasion: always spread kindness and make sure you wear pink!

Until next time, darlings. Remember, you are fabulous! And stay tuned, because my journey of discovery continues…
