#1841: Sparkling into Blackpool with My Tutu Army

This week, Blackpool, that beautiful seaside gem, beckoned me with its amusements, its pier, its history... and, of course, its opportunity for fabulous fun! Now, let me tell you, I felt a bit of a pinch in my sequins this time around. Travelin' can get a tad pricy, but fear not! My fabulous dance card was jam-packed with gigs, meaning those sparkly pennies rolled in fast, making this Blackpool escapade truly worth its weight in glitter!
As I chugged across the countryside, my mind already spinning with the fabulous outfits I would conjure for this seaside escapade, I felt that familiar joy. There's nothing quite like a train journey for letting your inner diva bloom. As I twirled in the aisle (keeping it low-key, of course, wouldn't want to cause a scene!) my reflection in the window gave me a glimpse of my dazzling costume, ready for the Blackpool spotlight! You know I never travel without at least three stunning pink tutus in my carry-on. You never know when you'll need to sprinkle a little magic onto the world!
From Seaside Splendour to Theatre Delights
My first night was pure enchantment! The sea air kissed my cheeks as I stepped onto the Blackpool promenade. All those shimmering lights, the iconic tower looming in the distance... I knew it was going to be an unforgettable weekend. My first performance was in a little seaside pub, nestled snugly on the seafront. As I twirled out onto the stage, clad in my cherry blossom pink tutu and shimmering feather boa, the warmth of the crowd just engulfed me. They sang along to my classics, their smiles reflecting the shimmering lights of Blackpool's iconic illuminations.
Speaking of iconic, Blackpool has a reputation for grand theatres, and I simply had to experience a show. "Phantom of the Opera" called my name, and I happily answered. No trip to Blackpool is complete without a spot of shopping. Now, Blackpool's charm is its abundance of unique stores - those places with dazzling window displays filled with trinkets, jewellery, and oddities that capture your heart and fill your senses. And guess what? A dazzling new pink tutu found its way into my collection - a vintage number with a bewitching lace and a sprinkle of sparkles that just screamed my name!
And of course, how could I visit a town like Blackpool without seeing a bit of ballet? The local dance academy, a true haven for all things graceful and beautiful, welcomed me with open arms and twinkling eyes. The talented students captivated me with their energy and dedication as they spun across the dance floor, each one showcasing a different kind of magic. In their youthful exuberance, I saw my own journey, reminding me how far a little pink tutu can take you!
Finding My Tribe
What makes this trip so special? Well, darling, beyond the dazzling sights and performances, it was meeting new faces. I'm not talking just your regular folks, I mean finding fellow tutu-wearing angels with a twinkle in their eye and an unstoppable desire for joy. I even had the honour of meeting a delightful gentleman named Derek, a local drag king, who was as passionate about sparkly fashion as I was! We even agreed to team up for a performance at the next town fair - watch this space!
