Small Heath Sparkle - Post Number 1996

Hiya darlings!

It’s your Pink Tutu Queen, bringing you all the latest gossip from the road, and today it's a real right treat - Small Heath, Birmingham!

This has to be the most fabulous trip yet - I've fallen in love with Small Heath, with all the quaint little shops, and the delightful aroma of curry spices in the air! And of course, the people, they’re so warm and welcoming! You could practically feel the friendly atmosphere! Honestly, the warmth made it difficult to find space in my suitcase for all the new frills and sequins I've snapped up. Gulp. Oh darling, the temptations are real.

I arrived in a flurry of feathers, having booked a sleeper carriage to add a touch of glamour to the journey. Yes, yes, it's about as far from "fashionably late" as it's possible to be, but a true queen always adds her own je ne sais quoi, even when travelling to perform at a charity fun day! Besides, those long legs look soooo glamorous stretched out over the velvet seats, don't you think? 😉

As always, I had to break out my most flamboyant tulle for this little trip. You've gotta know my rules, darlings! The pinker, the better. And when you see my newest custom-made Tutu? Oh darling! My tailor added a layer of delicate chiffon and a smattering of silver sequins...the light caught it just so as I sauntered out the station. I was radiating glamour, and not just from my new glittery lipstick! 💄

Did I tell you about the lovely chap who helped me out with the luggage? I think he’d seen me from the platform and his face just lit up. A smile could make the day for anyone, you know? I thanked him profusely with a twirl of my tulle and a sprinkle of my infamous fairy dust, which, it must be said, did involve a lot of glitter. Who can resist a bit of magic?

Speaking of magic, I've been rehearsing a new dance number with the Small Heath ballet academy! Oh my dear, these dancers have some serious talent! Their leaping and pirouette work just took my breath away - all those gorgeous legs! And speaking of talent, I must tell you about this fantastic drag king called "Sir Reginald" who runs an absolute gem of a cabaret club right next to the theatre. He offered me the space for a couple of shows, a "Pink Tutu Sparkle Special" for the kids, and a sassy evening show full of glitter and glam. You know how it is. 🤫

We kicked off the show with "Pink Power," a piece where I take to the stage in an unbelievable sequined dress the colour of a juicy grapefruit - you know the kind! - complete with feathers as big as my head and all the glam a queen needs to win the hearts of the local community. You know me and my love of a good theme, darling, and we danced our way through a rainbow of fabulous costumes to an enthusiastic audience who didn't want the night to end. My performance had even the littlest ones in the audience tapping their toes and singing along! They even gave me a bunch of pink daisies, which they lovingly told me was a 'token of love'! I was beside myself, dear reader! Honestly, this was the stuff dreams are made of.

Speaking of dreams, the locals have told me all about this incredible art festival they have each summer, such an eclectic mix of artists and street performers! Apparently they all show off their unique flair and artistic expression! How I long to take to the stage there one day. Now, that’s something I’ve just gotta get on my list for next year!

This afternoon, it was off to the "Tutu Tuesday Tea Dance", held at the local YMCA. It’s the highlight of the week for this fantastic community - there was dancing, laughter, and the sweetest array of cakes imaginable! A few hours, an afternoon spent sharing smiles with the locals - pure, delightful, community bliss!

There’s just something special about these community projects - seeing so many people coming together, spreading a little magic and happiness to everyone they meet. That's the beauty of the world, don't you think? So, next time you're looking for a trip, consider coming down to Small Heath, or even one of the nearby villages. This town, full of character and charm, holds a place in my heart forever.

So, my dearest readers, until next time! I leave you with this simple message: Shine your own sparkle. Live your own life.

Now, where did I leave my sparkly ballet shoes... oh dear! 👠

Pink Tutu Queen, signing off,

(Alex from Derbyshire)
