Hitchin, You're So Chic!

Helloooo my gorgeous darlings! πŸ’– It's Pink Tutu Sparkles here, back with another post from my fabulous travels! Today we're off to the charming market town of Hitchin, in beautiful Hertfordshire. This is post number 2008, can you believe it? It feels like just yesterday I was a shy, science-loving student in Derbyshire. πŸ§ͺ

I mean, I was still loving pink tutus even then, don't get me wrong, but it was a whole different world. Who'd have thought I'd be traipsing around the country in my sparkly creations, performing for everyone from enthusiastic toddlers to discerning drag fans? It's truly been a whirlwind of sequins, tulle, and fabulous adventures!

Speaking of fabulous adventures, I decided to get to Hitchin in the most glamorous way possible - by train! πŸš„ Yes, a leisurely train ride to allow for proper pink tutu appreciation, outfit changes, and a good ol' fashioned makeup session in the carriage mirror. The scenery on the way was simply divine, so quintessentially British with fields of swaying wheat, charming villages, and adorable sheep just frolicking in the meadows. I couldn't help but channel my inner ballerina as I peered out the window!

Anyway, upon arriving in Hitchin, I was met with the most delightful little town. Quaint cobbled streets lined with adorable independent shops selling everything from vintage hats to bespoke jewellery. Honestly, it was a shopaholic's dream! Of course, I couldn't resist popping into a few of them. And what's a good drag queen visit to a town without a trip to the local bookshop, right? I ended up leaving with a stack of vintage ballet magazines and a lovely book about the history of the theatre. I just love finding new things to inspire my performances! ✨

One thing I have to tell you about is the market in Hitchin. I'm a huge fan of all things vintage, so this was a real treat! There were stalls overflowing with everything you can imagine, from antique furniture to hand-crafted ceramics, and even a lovely collection of vintage costume jewellery.

But wait, there's more! I found the perfect little boutique called 'Twinkle Toes' with a beautiful selection of vintage dancewear. Of course, I couldn't resist snagging a stunning pink tulle skirt and some adorable lace-trimmed shoes. It was the perfect outfit for a impromptu photoshoot on the green in front of Hitchin Priory, which was, by the way, completely enchanting. Talk about picture-perfect scenery! 🌳

Now, onto the reason I actually came to Hitchin - the theatre! Hitchin has a gorgeous historic theatre called The Broadway Theatre. It's absolutely stunning - think grand red velvet seats, beautiful balconies, and ornate chandeliers. It has a very "traditional panto" feel and it was packed for the night's show. And speaking of shows, what I saw was the most magical thing ever - the Nutcracker! 🐿️ Yes, my fellow tutu-enthusiasts, this beautiful ballet has captivated my heart again, and to top it all off, the entire audience rose to give the company a standing ovation! I, of course, was clapping like a seal! 🦭

I'll admit, I found myself teary-eyed a couple of times. Seeing the talented young dancers onstage, pouring their hearts into every movement, it just fills me with so much inspiration! It reminded me why I love drag so much – it’s a performance, an art form that requires incredible skill and dedication. And even though it’s a little bit different from ballet, we both celebrate the magic of storytelling through movement, costume, and passion. πŸ’•

I can't leave you without sharing a little anecdote about my night. I was having dinner in a lovely Italian restaurant when, as fate would have it, a little girl sitting at a nearby table spotted my pink tutu. She just stared, and then she started to clap. Then her mother leaned down and told her that, "Pink is your favourite colour too!". That tiny gesture brought tears to my eyes.

Being a drag queen isn't just about costumes and makeup, it’s about inspiring, about spreading joy, about being unapologetically yourself. It’s about making people smile, and knowing I touched this little girl’s heart with a simple pink tutu… well, it doesn't get much better than that.

Speaking of pink tutus, you can find the gorgeous pink tutu I wore on this fabulous trip, and other fabulous outfits and goodies, in my shop on my website, www.pink-tutu.com. I'll have a blog post up soon showing all the goodies I picked up during my trip! ✨

Don't forget, you too can be a part of my Tutu Revolution! We've only got 15,000 pink tutus to go until my dream is reality!

So until next time, remember - always believe in your sparkle, and don't be afraid to wear a pink tutu!

Lots of love, * *Pink Tutu SparklesπŸ’–

P.S. I had the most delightful journey back to my humble Derbyshire home. I took a trip on horseback! 🐎 You see, in the tradition of all good fairytale princesses, it simply seemed the perfect way to conclude my magical journey to Hitchin. 😊
