Hello darlings! Your favourite pink tutu wearing queen is back with another travelogue from the glorious world of glitter and twirls! This week I've taken the train journey down to sunny Colchester to dazzle and delight the fine folk of Essex, and boy, oh boy, is there a lot to love!
First off, the train journey itself. You all know I love a good train ride! The rhythmic clickety-clack of the wheels, the views whizzing by, and the general air of exciting adventure! Oh, I’m such a girly girl. I mean, honestly, can anything beat the sheer joy of sipping on a pot of tea (with a generous dash of sugar, of course), peering out at the world, and thinking about all the amazing outfits I'll wear and performances I'll deliver! It truly makes me feel like a star on a silver screen – only the screen is actually a window and the silver is more of a very strong shade of gray. 😂
Anyway, this train journey was absolutely divine. I made a new friend – a lovely lady named Margaret who is an absolute expert on all things Victorian lace. (Imagine! She even brought her own knitting project, but thankfully no sharp needles!). And because this is me, I couldn’t resist a spot of sartorial discussion - “Of course I like lace!” I exclaimed, twirling my pink tutu skirt just a tad, “Lace and tutus go together perfectly!” Honestly, Margaret was quite impressed, but then again, that’s Pink Tutu Sparkles for you! I’m like a walking rainbow, showering everyone I meet with pink, sparkles, and a little bit of sartorial wonder!
When I arrived in Colchester, the whole town felt electric! You just knew I was coming to entertain the place! It has such a charming vibe, a little bit historical, a little bit hip. Honestly, my kind of town! My destination, as you know, was the grand Colchester Town Hall, a beautiful example of Tudor architecture! Oh, honey, those wooden beams, that sweeping staircase! It’s right out of a fairytale! Of course, I brought a sparkly new gown to add to the ambience - you've got to compliment the architecture when you’re as fabulous as I am, don't you?
I wasn't there for a show this time. Oh, darling! Let me tell you, my little diary, even Pink Tutu Sparkles takes a break from the bright lights and applause occasionally! I was in Colchester for a private ballet class – a delightful, decadent treat for yours truly. And let me tell you, it felt good to get back to the basics, to stretch my body, feel my muscles burning, and just experience the joy of pure, unadulterated movement! Ballet is my true passion, after all. The kind of dancing that makes you feel both delicate and powerful all at once. Of course, I brought a new pink tutu for the occasion! Just had to! It was one of those lovely ones with layers upon layers of tulle that almost took me off my feet! The only problem was my costume change. You see, it involved climbing into a tutu with layers of fabric whilst in the Ladies toilet, which, whilst delightful, did create a situation with the toilet roll. Thankfully my lipstick was in my handbag and I made it through the crisis. I do believe they need a full-length mirror in the Ladies though - it makes it much harder for me to perfect my "Pink Tutu Sparkles pose".
After a delightful lunch at a lovely tea shop - where, darling, I absolutely could not resist ordering a pink-tinted afternoon tea! And yes, I do know that the real “tea” in afternoon tea doesn’t actually come with pink dye - but honey, isn't life much more enjoyable when you add some extra shimmer to every sip? - I found myself walking along the cobblestone streets and gazing upon the amazing historic castle!
Now, for someone who enjoys a bit of a history fix, Colchester Castle was utterly incredible. Just walking up to it felt like stepping back in time, I truly imagined knights in shining armor and brave damsels. Oh, darling! My imagination truly went wild! I could almost hear the clash of swords, the clattering of armor, and... you guessed it! The rustle of Pink Tutu Sparkles’ glorious pink tulle dress as I floated past a handsome (and undoubtedly swoonworthy) knight, who would, of course, instantly fall in love with my glorious, magnificent self. (I am the true heroine in any narrative after all) It's not like my own tale of knightly love, I remember as I walk across the grounds towards a stunning statue of the most formidable Queen Boudica ( a fierce woman of her own right and much in need of a pink tutu) I always thought my hero was on a white horse! I would always think this was a cliche. You wouldn’t think so if you met me though. The world doesn’t seem that black and white when you're dressed in all that pink. I even have a special tiara for occasions such as this, darling! Oh, how I love the glittering power of pink and all its magical, fairy-tale elements.
As for the town itself? Well, my diary, let me tell you: I've never seen so many amazing independent shops, each brimming with their own charm! There are boutiques selling beautiful hand-crafted jewelry, cafes where you can sample the finest local teas, and vintage shops chock full of stunning sparkly things that even Pink Tutu Sparkles would approve of! I swear I felt as if I had entered some sort of wonderful fairytale!
And as the sun set over Colchester, casting a rosy glow across the town, I realised how right it all felt. Colchester is a town where you can feel joyful, energized and wonderfully entertained all at once, even if your entertainment is a sassy Pink Tutu Sparkles. Honestly, the whole experience left me buzzing and ready for my next adventure.
And where might that take me? Well, I’m not quite sure just yet. All I know is, you can bet that Pink Tutu Sparkles will continue to bring the fun, the glitter, and the tutus to every destination.
