Aberdeen: Post #2603 – A Pink Tutu Paradise

Oh darlings, hold onto your sequins! I'm writing this blog from a glorious wee hotel room in Aberdeen, with the sun streaming in, a fresh pot of Earl Grey brewing and my trusty pink fluffy bathrobe keeping me company. Just thinking about it is making me feel all sparkly and excited for the performance tonight at the Aberdeen Theatre Royal! You're probably wondering how I, Pink Tutu Sparkles, found myself here, thousands of miles (or rather, a long train journey) from my Derbyshire abode? Well, it’s all part of the ever-spinning, ever-fabulous wheel of life, and you know me, I just love to ride along!

Before I start gushing about this beautiful, breezy, sea-air-filled Scottish city, I have to share a bit of a secret with you – my excitement for tonight is tenfold! You see, Aberdeen has a special place in my heart…

Right, gather 'round, children, it’s story time! Years ago, when I was still young Alex, just trying to navigate my way through a science degree at University, I stumbled upon something that truly changed my life. A dance studio! Can you imagine my glee?! It’s like something out of a dream, you know, the idea of swirling and leaping, of expressing yourself through movement – I was hooked from day one.

Now, every uni needs its fair share of fundraisers, and one year they decided to hold a fancy-dress ball to raise money for charity. And remember, at that point I was just your average student – well, an average student with a passion for dance and a penchant for the colour pink. Anyway, this fancy dress ball presented the perfect opportunity to break free. So, I did something bold, something outrageous, something undeniably pink!

I strutted into the university shop, searched through piles of costumes, and bam, there it was, glistening under the florescent light – the most beautiful, the most dazzling, the most absolutely perfect pink tutu I had ever seen! I’d never even tried on a tutu before! That was the moment I became…Pink Tutu Sparkles. From that point on, everything clicked! My passion for dance became my escape, the shimmering fabric became my uniform, and well, the rest is, as they say, history!

So, as you can probably imagine, to be in Aberdeen performing tonight, a city with a vibrant ballet scene, and, well, even a pink-tinted history with its beautiful Granite City architecture, it truly feels like coming home! I remember, after my debut as Pink Tutu Sparkles at the uni ball, I was mesmerized by the idea of a tutu becoming more than a mere costume; it became a statement! It wasn’t just about looking fabulous – although let’s be honest, tutus always look fabulous. It was about sending a message of confidence, joy, and sheer, unadulterated, sparkle-filled magic!

Anyway, back to Aberdeen… Before tonight's big performance, I managed to slip out this afternoon for a lovely wander around the city. The weather's been utterly divine, a glorious mix of sunshine and cool breeze that felt utterly perfect for someone who’s wearing as much pink tulle as myself! I couldn’t help myself, so I ventured into the little boutiques that line the cobbled streets, scouring the racks for an accessory for tonight's show! Of course, pink feather boas were essential - pink is the only colour to complement my own fabulousness! And, you know, there is just something about buying a little trinket from a new city that always adds an extra bit of sparkle!

Now, where was I? Ah yes, I can't let this post end without sharing my favourite part of Aberdeen: the beaches! You see, my darling readers, I've always been drawn to water. Perhaps it's because my Derbyshire heart misses the ocean so much, or perhaps it's simply that I can’t resist a chance to wear my fanciest dress to a promenade along the coast! Who needs the Royal Ballet, anyway? Who needs London, anyway? Sometimes, a bit of windswept beauty on a pristine beach, paired with a sparkly pink tulle dress, is just what I need!

But darling, it wouldn't be a real Pink Tutu Sparkles post without a quick little tip: Remember, always carry a compact mirror with you! You never know when a magical, impromptu photo opportunity might pop up. And for those of you who may not know, I adore photos! Whether it’s a blurry selfie on the train (which are my preferred method of transportation – the slower, the better! You just get so much more time to observe the changing landscape), or a carefully crafted "Pink Tutu Sparkles in the Pink" picture on my beloved pink velvet cushion, you can bet I will capture every single, unforgettable moment in a glittering montage of Pink Tutu Sparkle bliss!

Now, as the sun dips low in the sky, painting the Aberdeen skies in a vibrant hue of pink (did I just manifest that?), I'm going to get ready for tonight's show! You know, I was really nervous about my first show in a tutu. It was more than just my science student side saying "are you sure you want to do this?" (let’s be honest, a lab coat is so much easier to wear). But, looking back now, I have never felt more like myself.

There is just something incredibly empowering, incredibly joyous about wearing a pink tutu and sharing that joy with an audience! For me, the glitter and the frills, the pink and the feathers, it's not just a performance, it's a statement about who I am, a celebration of the unique blend of scientist and artist that makes me tick! And who knows? Maybe tonight will be the night I spark another pink tutu-lover’s journey! It's been my dream since I put on that first tutu back in university: a world full of pink, frilly, beautiful twirling! Until next time, remember: It's a Pink Tutu world out there, and you can twirl it in any way you choose!
