Scunthorpe: Where the Sparkles Meet the Steel!

Hello darlings! It’s your favourite pink tutu-clad queen, Pink Tutu Sparkles, here, bringing you blog post number 2655 from the heart of…Scunthorpe! I know what you're thinking: "Scunthorpe?! But…why?" Trust me, dolls, you'll want to hear about this little trip. This wasn't your typical glamorous, high-fashion Parisian jaunt. This was an adventure, my loves, an exploration of a place most known for steel and a certain saucy slang phrase. 😉

Now, I'm all about fabulous fashion, sparkly venues, and grand ballrooms. But there's a certain thrill in bringing the pink tutu magic to unexpected places. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, a tutu is a statement, and what better way to make a statement than to wear one in a town where the biggest highlight is a statue of a bloke on a bike? That's right, ladies, my latest voyage took me to the land of… The Scunthorpe 'Iron Man' – a charming little steel worker figure!

So, how did I find myself in the heart of Lincolnshire? Well, let's just say I've got this magical way of sniffing out fun gigs – like, the kind where a town hall invites a sparkly, pink tutu queen to liven things up. This gig had the potential to be a real winner – think big, bright stage lights, friendly folk, and even a small-town drag scene waiting for a spark of magic.

This journey was all about embracing the journey, as always! A trip to the Iron City just wouldn’t be complete without a traditional, yet surprisingly chic, ride to the north, wouldn’t it? It had to be a train, of course, my lovely ladies, the train is such a grand, glamorous, vintage mode of transport, it wouldn't have felt quite right otherwise, don’t you think? I donched my latest number – a custom-designed, iridescent pink tutu paired with a sparkling white bolero jacket and platform shoes. The journey itself was half the fun, I always make a show out of travelling - you know, to give people a touch of sunshine wherever I go! The other travellers definitely gave me the side-eye as I sashayed through the carriages! I bet I brightened their day – who wants a boring commute, anyway, darling?

Scunthorpe was truly something else, let me tell you! It’s so far from the glitz and glam of my beloved Derbyshire. But, believe me, it was full of hidden gems – well, if you're into historical sites, steel factories, and lots and lots of chippies, that is! And, naturally, I had to pay a visit to the steelworks! Who could resist, right? My mind was blown! You think the sparkly jewels and couture fabric I wear in my act are impressive? Wait till you see how they shape steel in Scunthorpe! I mean, my pink tutus may be fabulous, but they definitely can't take a beating like a bit of steel! Now, the chippies weren’t bad either - there is nothing quite like a greasy takeaway fish supper after a night of strutting my stuff and I’m not above taking advantage of the many opportunities Scunthorpe provides to eat fish and chips from the local chippy on a Friday night. But let’s face it, fish and chips after a week of working in a lab is also not a bad idea!

Now, let's get to the most important part – the show! The venue, the Scunthorpe Town Hall, was everything I hoped for – a stunning piece of history, like a charming, weathered old gentleman with the best tales to tell. My stage manager for the night was an absolute darling named Sharon. Now, she was about as glam as a town hall you could find. I found myself saying things like, "Don’t mind if I do, Sharon" and “Fancy a pint in town later?” more than I'd care to admit, but she was such a true Yorkshire lass.

The audience was the most wonderful bunch! They were so warm, welcoming, and clearly eager to be swept off their feet by a bit of pink tutu magic. I told them about how I got started in the drag world, my time studying science at uni and being a part of the ballet club – I remember I bought a pink tutu in the uni charity shop just for a giggle and I just knew that my life was going to change. And honestly, I think the people in the Scunthorpe crowd really felt the sparkly vibe! There was some incredible energy in the room that evening! It was honestly so nice to find an audience that knew when I made a joke and laughed along, really loved the performance and joined in on the energy! After the performance, they even came up and said they loved my dancing and wished they could do it too – it’s good to know I inspire the masses!

Before I head off on my next adventure, here's a little piece of wisdom for you lovelies. It doesn't matter if you're a steel worker or a tutu queen – we're all just humans wanting a little sparkle in our lives. So embrace the unexpected, wear pink, twirl a tutu, and let the glitter be your guide. And remember, always take a little Scunthorpe steel with you – even in your pinkest moments!

Lots of love and glitter,

Your Tutu Queen, Pink Tutu Sparkles
