Harrow, Oh Harrow! Post 3127 - A Pink Tutu Paradise

Hello, darlings! It’s your favourite pink tutu-wearing, twirling, and travelling drag queen, Pink Tutu Sparkles! Today’s post is dedicated to a day in Harrow, a suburb just outside of London, which you might not know, is turning into a total pink tutu paradise!

I was invited to perform at the Harrow Arts Centre, a charming little place with an eclectic mix of cultural events. The performance was for a fundraising gala, but they really upped the ante - imagine a gala filled with elegant folks sipping cocktails, and the music of Tchaikovsky filling the air as the main attraction, a ballet-themed drag performance.

Don't get me wrong, my act ain’t your typical tutu ballet routine, I bring the sparkle and sass, alongside a generous helping of witty banter and puns that would make a queen giggle! My aim? To make people laugh, to share the magic of dancing, and of course, to spread the gospel of the pink tutu, my one true love.

This was a dream gig. How could you not be enchanted by a ballet-loving, glitter-dusted crowd, all dressed to the nines?

But before the dazzling performance, a quick dash to the local horse stables. My friends were going to try their hand at some mounted riding and I decided to tag along. I’ve always adored horses, and what’s more dramatic than a galloping horse in a pink tutu? Ok, maybe not ideal, but a tutu-wearing rider is just as fabulous, don’t you think? We spent a gloriously sunny afternoon getting acquainted with these beautiful creatures. There’s something incredibly calming about being around horses.

The horse stables were charming, with lovely thatched roofs and those classic stable doors. You could feel the history of the place, like you could just about hear the soft clip-clop of hooves echoing in the old barn.

The real highlight was meeting 'Sparkle'. Yes, this magnificent chestnut horse was named after me! Turns out one of the owners is a big fan, and the second they found out I was visiting, I was instantly showered with affection by Sparkle! (I like to think Sparkle loved me just as much!)

Back in Harrow town, I took a stroll to see what I could find, and the shops really took me back to my youth - vintage vibes galore, and plenty of local independent shops selling beautiful fabrics, craft supplies and homeware.

Harrow truly has the feel of a town from a different time - charming streets and lovely brickwork with a scattering of pubs and traditional eateries. I ended the day feeling like I was in a postcard. It’s a definite place for you to pop to on a day out – just remember to wear pink!

You can't leave Harrow without a taste of the famous Harrow Chicken Tikka Masala - I'm told it’s a dish that deserves a trip just by itself!

But alas, it was time to get dressed and ready for my big night at the Harrow Arts Centre. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many fabulous people in one room!

Of course, I made sure I sparkled, baby! I'd been perfecting a new performance - a whimsical tale about a young scientist who accidentally stumbles upon a magical, pink-tutu-filled world. The dance numbers were inspired by ballet steps, full of pirouettes, fouettés, and a generous amount of sass. It’s always delightful to see the joy of ballet shine through, whether I’m on stage or watching an incredible performance at the Royal Opera House (that’s London, dear readers, not quite Harrow).

Speaking of London, did you know there’s a magnificent ballet school there? (No surprises, it's named the Royal Ballet School!) I made a quick visit there recently - I can’t leave a town without popping into a dance studio or at least admiring a ballet shoe store! London’s a beautiful place and the architecture always makes me feel like I’m stepping onto a movie set! (And they love their pink tutus too, if you know what I mean!).

After my spectacular show in Harrow, I left feeling utterly energized! There is such joy in sharing my love for pink tutus, music, dance, and all things fabulously flamboyant! It truly was a day where I could indulge in all my loves.

Speaking of, this day really made me realise - how lovely is it that, while the science lab in my life makes sure everything is accurate and structured, I get to sprinkle some sparkly fairy dust on the world outside, bringing laughter and a whole lot of glitz! And that is, in my own little way, magic!

Remember, every day is a day to twirl! Find your inner sparkle, find your passion, and remember that no matter how many times you stumble, you’ve got the power to dance through anything.

See you next time, loves! Until then, stay sparkly and be fabulous!

xx,

Pink Tutu Sparkles

P.S. If you're thinking of heading to Harrow yourself, the perfect attire, you guessed it, is a pink tutu! And do try the famous Harrow Chicken Tikka Masala.
