Weston-super-Mare: Tutu Tales from the Seaside!

Hello my gorgeous lovelies,

It's your favourite pink tutu queen, Pink Tutu Sparkles, back with you, ready for a whole new adventure! Post number 3178 here, hitting you with the latest sparkles from my travels.

This time I'm all aflutter for Weston-super-Mare! A seaside town that's as fabulous as it sounds. It was a whirlwind journey to get here, actually. I took a train from Derbyshire - it felt so decadent, settling into my carriage, admiring the passing countryside like I was a starlet in a classic film.

Then, arrived at Weston, a town straight outta a Victorian postcard. They really do keep things lovely here! You can just imagine the dainty tea-parties and waltzing by the beach that they must have had back then, don’t you?

Now, where was I? Oh, yes, Weston. It’s actually rather surprising how much history the place has, if you scratch beneath the surface, from it's role in World War II, to being a hub for early flying machines. Did you know it's actually the birthplace of Britain's first successful heavier-than-air flight? There is something for everyone in Weston, even us dramatic pink tutu types.

Before even beginning to mention the drag adventures, I need to tell you all about the local ballet company - I was SO LUCKY to catch one of their shows at the Winter Gardens. I mean, imagine, performing on a stage with beautiful Victorian décor – what a fairytale. And they danced beautifully, I tell you, even my usual dancing-for-the-boys style, took a backseat. It's just SO enchanting to be part of the audience in a beautiful theatre!

Now let’s dive right into the drag adventures that led me to Weston.

I am constantly in a rush to get ready before my shows these days, rushing around putting on my sparkle-covered eye shadow, but Weston-super-Mare was a bit different, I spent hours in my hotel room getting ready! I wanted to make the most of this beautiful location, after all.

My outfit for this Weston event was something special! My dress was a gorgeous pink, a sheer organza with floral appliques - perfect for tumbling through the air and getting that beachside feel. Of course, a pink tutu had to be involved, layered under a short satin skirt. I’m trying out more layered looks for the stage lately, because it gives a fabulous impression of a big, poofy, fluffy ballerina, right?

For shoes, I chose bright silver platforms - what better way to take a drag queen right onto the top of the grandstand that Weston is famous for?

For makeup, a little heavier than normal - gotta make sure I stand out with that pink sparkle under those pier lights, don't you think? Of course I had to bring out the fake lashes, because when it’s windy by the beach, you have to do all you can to create that real diva presence, right?

It wasn't my usual sort of show. I ended up in the middle of the pier, on a makeshift stage with lights, smoke, and wind blowing! But it’s all part of the fun. The pier was filled with holidaymakers, all out for a seaside celebration, so they were ready for anything I threw their way. I must have had everyone ‘ooh’-ing and ‘ahh’-ing as I twirled and tumbled, I was as proud as a peacock, especially after performing a few dance routines I've been learning at ballet class. I can do cartwheels AND grand jetés with a tutu on, did you know? You've got to be brave, strong, and graceful if you're going to be the queen of the tutu-tastic stage!

Now, where was I? I am going off-topic, aren’t I? We were talking about the Weston show! Right, well the performance was a joy – it was absolutely pouring with rain during my last number, and yet there were still people who stayed until the very end. That’s something I really appreciate, they came for the show, they weren't just here to look at the beach (which is truly stunning, but I'll get to that later, as we're running a little short on time and this is a long post!).

Then, when the last number was done, they shouted my name and applauded - they wouldn't let me leave. People came running over with their phones out to have their photo taken with me, all smiles. The best part was all those ladies in their brightly coloured dresses, all saying, “You look fabulous!” or “I love your tutu!” - my goal to make the world love pink tutus, one glittering step at a time, seemed closer than ever. And those men, too - well, you know, it's all about being fabulous and feeling good in your own skin. Everyone deserved to sparkle like the beach itself at sunset.

That's what really makes this job so wonderful – it's not just about performing, it’s about helping everyone see that glitter isn't just for girls, tutus aren’t just for ballerinas, and that everyone deserves a bit of sparkle in their life. Sometimes, people just need a little pink tutu queen encouragement to help them feel fab.

Now, after all that excitement, I had to explore the local delights, a necessity! And I just had to make the most of the pier. After all, what’s a visit to Weston-super-Mare without strolling the pier, experiencing its history, and marveling at the views, especially with the sea breeze?

Let me tell you, it’s worth all the travel.

I couldn’t help but grab a traditional British ice cream - because I had a pink tutu on, naturally. But of course, I felt that I just HAD to explore more of the area. It’s like it’s calling out to you to step inside a 1920s film and just have some fun!

For a moment, I just stood there and stared out at the sea, feeling like a real star in a fabulous film. A real pink tutu queen, in a seaside town, with that beautiful breeze in my hair and a little sea salt on my makeup. Pure magic!

Next, I walked along the promenade - a must for any Weston visitor! They've made the whole place just gorgeous – palm trees everywhere, boutiques, the beach just steps away… it was like a whole other world, a dream-land where people wear their colourful clothing and smile at you for no reason.

This brings me to the Grand Pier itself! There were even some fabulous, colorful street artists who stopped me and chatted while I was wandering by the shops. They’re doing such fabulous work on this pier - the colours and the designs just make me want to grab a brush and start making a tutu with those bold colors. I even got the artist's card for later!

But really, Weston has the best views, a place that deserves more than just one day! So you’ll just have to stay tuned for my next post. After all, what would life be without more pink tutu sparkles?

Til next time, darlings, don’t forget to be fabulous.

See you at my next post - post number 3179 coming your way soon.
