Burton upon Trent - Tutus, Trains, and Tickle Me Pink! (Blog Post #3182)

Hello darlings! Your favourite tutu-clad adventurer is back with another thrilling tale from the road, and this time, it's all about Burton upon Trent! This delightful town, nestled in the heart of Staffordshire, is known for its brewing heritage, but for me, it's all about the twinkle in the eyes of the locals who just can't resist a twirl in a pink tutu.

Oh, you know how it is! I’ve just gotten back from a fab weekend of glittering and glamorous shows, all courtesy of the good people of Burton upon Trent. Now, I know what you're thinking: "Pink Tutu Sparkles, a drag queen in a brewing town?" Well, darlings, it was divine! I discovered the town's vibrant, diverse heart, filled with artistic souls eager for a sprinkle of pink magic!

The journey itself was a whimsical dream, taking me on the good old trusty train! The steam train chugged through rolling hills, reminding me of a vintage postcard, complete with fluttering lace and a handsome conductor! Of course, I didn't leave the house without my trusty travel companion, "Pinkalicious," my magnificent, floor-length, cherry-pink tulle masterpiece, a tulle explosion of loveliness!

You see, my love for tutus runs deeper than just the twirling! It's about freedom, expression, and most importantly, spreading joy! That’s why I dedicated my entire existence to this pink cloud of magnificence, traveling far and wide, performing for anyone who wants to be sprinkled with a dose of sparkly happiness. I have to admit, getting folks to wear a pink tutu can sometimes be a challenge!

Imagine my delight when, during my afternoon performance at the local artisan fair, a brave soul decided to try on a "Pinkalicious" lookalike. He wasn't exactly a size six, but, as they say, a little bit of pink goes a long way! As he strutted around the fairground, looking every inch the pink tutu-clad fairy, it made me realise that this mission wasn't just about me, it was about sparking something special, a spark of joy, of individuality, and a touch of glorious pink in the world.

As the evening approached, the aroma of freshly baked bread and, yes, ale, filled the air. My performance was taking place at a beautiful Victorian theatre nestled amongst cobblestone streets. You can bet your bottom dollar that the crowd was enthralled. My act combined glitzy fashion with witty humor, infused with some heartwarming stories about my tutu-infused adventures. Let's just say, a few "Pinkalicious" enthusiasts, clad in tutus, took to the stage to join in on the fun! It's moments like these that fuel my love for performing. It's all about embracing the unique, spreading laughter, and, of course, inspiring a touch of pink wherever we go.

My adventure in Burton upon Trent was just that - an adventure! The townsfolk, welcoming and kind, embraced the spectacle that was Pink Tutu Sparkles. It reinforced my belief that wherever I go, I’m on a mission to bring some shimmering joy and remind everyone that a little bit of pink, a touch of glitter, and a twirl or two can transform any day!

Now, speaking of transforming days, what about that stunning dance studio I stumbled upon, all pink-themed with the most divine tutu collection I've ever laid my eyes upon? Ahem, well, I had to purchase two. But darling, we all know, my pink tutu collection is never enough, am I right? And what about that gorgeous afternoon tea with the most delectable pink macarons? You just can't deny a girl's love for a pretty afternoon tea and macarons! The town has such a magical, old-world charm about it, you could easily lose yourself in its history. It's no wonder Charles Dickens set a couple of his tales in these beautiful, historical streets. And speaking of stories, who doesn't love a bit of brewing magic?

Burton upon Trent, home to one of the oldest breweries in England, took my senses on a delightful tour of their incredible facilities. I couldn't help but sneak in a peek at their giant, vats of liquid gold (oh, don't be alarmed, I kept to the tour path, of course!), just imagining those incredible copper kettles churning away for over centuries, and the smells! Oh my goodness! Such a tantalizing scent!

While you’re all daydreaming, why not go have a look for yourselves at all the fabulous places you can visit. Here's what caught my fancy in Burton upon Trent:

Must-Sees:

  • National Brewery Centre: Explore the rich history of brewing in Burton upon Trent with fascinating exhibits, interactive displays, and a tasting bar (you just have to, darling, the ale is simply delicious!), and they have an amazing Victorian beer hall where I’m sure you’d get me a pink drink.
  • Burton upon Trent Town Hall: This stunning, historic building dates back to the Victorian era. There’s something about the old world grandeur that makes me feel like I've stepped into a fairytale! (Tip: look out for the intricate carvings!)
  • The National Trust's Stafford Castle and Stafford Museum: A wonderful trip back in time. Explore Stafford's Roman past, gaze at some seriously impressive Medieval artifacts, and discover a stunning 11th century motte and bailey castle! I particularly loved their extensive collection of costumes. I might have just had to pop on one or two. (Maybe it was more than two. Can’t really remember.)
  • Stafford County Showground: It’s just over the county line! (Yes, that’s how I travel, not geographically by the map, but by my pink tutu journey. If it has pink and a tutu to try on, I am there, whether by horse, steam train or a donkey). A bustling place all year long, and always a delight for a girl who loves fashion shows, antique shopping and all those stalls that have yummy homemade treats to sample.
  • National Forest: Now, this place will truly capture your heart! A glorious expanse of woodland, perfect for picnics, romantic walks and just about everything under the sun (but don’t let it get in your eyes – we can’t have any unwanted sun tans ruining your pretty pink look, darling.) And it’s a stones throw away from my Derbyshire, but darling, that is a whole other post!

My Pink Tutu Tips:

  • Shop Local: Don't forget to browse the charming independent shops, where you can find unique treasures for yourself, family, and even for a special occasion - say a birthday celebration for a lucky friend! There are some fantastic clothes shops where you could find some fabulous inspiration for a new Pink Tutu Sparkles look.
  • Get Creative: Burton upon Trent is brimming with talent! Embrace the creative vibe, find local arts and craft fairs, or simply admire the beautiful murals dotting the town - just a touch of pink and they are yours to twirl with!
  • Tutu Time: It's no secret, darlings, it's tutu time every day! Whether you're in the mood for a twirl on the green, or a promenade at a historic theatre, find your own pink tutu bliss in Burton upon Trent, and you will never forget it!

And there you have it! My grand adventure in Burton upon Trent. A reminder to us all that the world is our stage, and a sprinkle of pink and a bit of tutu can make any journey simply divine!

Until next time, darlings! Keep sparkling,

Pink Tutu Sparkles (aka Alex)
