#TutuQueen on 2009-01-05 stars in Kenton

Hello darlings, and welcome back to www.pink-tutu.com! Today is a big day, it's day 3293 of my fabulous drag journey and I am buzzing to share this special trip with all of you. My trusty diary, or as you lot call it - the "blog", is prepped and ready for a pink-tastic time in Kenton!

Oh, it's always such a delight when I'm heading out to a new destination. And it's even more fabulous when I'm on a mission. This week, Kenton will be graced by none other than your favourite pink-clad diva - Pink Tutu Sparkles. This time I'm bringing a whole new twist to the sparkles, it's going to be something very special, but shush - you'll just have to wait and see! 😉

Now, before I spill the beans on how I'm getting to Kenton, I want to tell you all about this place! Let's have a proper good chinwag about Kenton! From what I've read, it's a town brimming with history, nestled in the rolling hills of Yorkshire, and as soon as I heard the name, my little drag heart was calling for a visit! I already know that Kenton boasts beautiful Victorian architecture, some cracking independent shops, and apparently even an excellent fish and chip shop, what more could a gal ask for?! 🍟

Honestly, my darlings, I simply can't wait to see if Kenton's actually as fabulous as all those internet articles promise! And, while we're on the subject of the fabulous...

Now, how do you think I'm getting to Kenton? On a grand chariot drawn by prancing unicorns, obviously! Or maybe a rocket powered by glitter dust! Sadly, no... But I will be making a rather dramatic entrance when I reach Kenton. And I am going to be arriving by… train! Yes, a train! The pinkest train you’ve ever seen. 💅 🚄

Look, darling, you know I can’t get from my little Derbyshire cottage to the Yorkshire countryside without the best transportation available. I do, of course, enjoy a leisurely ride on horseback now and again, but for a quick trip to a lovely little town like Kenton? My trusted rail companion is just the ticket, darling. And when you travel by train, there’s so much to do and see! I can catch up on my reading, look at the view and enjoy some gossip magazines! It really gets my creative juices flowing! 😉

Speaking of juices flowing, darling, I’m on a bit of a health kick, so my carriage is full of pink juice and healthy nibbles, although the crisps aren't exactly good for the figure... Let’s face it, no-one’s gonna want to hear me moan about diet while in full drag attire, right? Oh darling! I shall indulge in all my treats when I’m at the lovely Kenton and get a little bit healthier for the trip back! 🍎 🍇 🚄

Anyway, enough about this train of mine... We're just at the beginning of the Kenton journey and my excitement is really peaking, so now it’s time to share with you my travel plans. Now, before we get started on the good stuff - you all know my blog is dedicated to promoting those beautiful pink tutus - I am absolutely going to do what I can to inspire the wonderful folks of Kenton to wear them. So, how is the Queen of Tutu’s going to do this?, You’re asking?

Well, let’s just say the streets of Kenton are going to get a whole lot pinker, my darlings. I plan on hosting a ‘Wear a Pink Tutu Day’ with an afternoon full of events like fashion parades, tutu making classes and maybe even a competition. (More on those events later, promise!). So, make sure you look fabulous and join in the fun. It's going to be an absolute blast!

Oh darling, I simply cannot wait!

There’s not one but two major events planned in Kenton during my stay and I’m just going to lay down my pink sequined gloves and declare I'm thrilled! 🧤

Let’s kick off with the ‘Tutu Ballet Day’ taking place on Friday, oh, how I'm so very excited! For the whole afternoon we’ll be dancing around at Kenton Arts Centre. They’ve arranged for us to be shown how to do the ballerina steps and after that, I’m even going to do a performance of some classic tutus – ballet moves. Of course, my very special pink tutu is going to make a guest appearance in a showstopping sequence and I can’t wait to show the dancers there the tricks I learned in the ballet class at University. That reminds me...

I have a really funny story I need to tell you. In a moment I’m going to go back in time and relive the aha moment. My life is full of tutus now and I really think I should take it all back to when my life was, well… normal.

I was, darling, a shy science student who found a little too much comfort in the solitude of my lab coat. In those days, science seemed more glamorous. Now I have a pretty spectacular second career as a drag artist - the most rewarding career in the world, let’s face it!

Anyway, back to that story! You see, I was trying out for a part in the university ballet society performance of “Swan Lake,” my ambition? To do something daring and get out of my comfort zone... It wasn't going well, the dancing bit just wasn’t clicking! And as the poor soul I am, I hadn't practiced anywhere near as much as my competitors - I was doomed! I could not believe my ears when they offered me the part! (I do think they took pity on my earnest enthusiasm and, if I’m being honest, it did really hurt their eyes to see me attempt to plié). But what happened next is truly a gift from the dance gods. You see, after they cast me as a ‘Swan’, the very first thing they asked me to do was to go into the backroom to try on a swan dress, oh... darling, it was a tutu!, I couldn't have been more ecstatic! But this tutu was not pink! A big shame, darling, I know, but that’s exactly why the rest of the story is so significant, you see... It was during my little moment of costume experimentation that my eyes really started to pop with an almost heavenly vision - what if I wore pink?! Well, the whole performance changed then. It's all very well trying to copy what's been done, but there was something so incredible about stepping out into the spotlight wearing a pink tutu. That pink made all the difference and as the curtains opened I realized that I really had to have one of my own. A Pink Tutu! And not just any pink tutu... I needed something extra special. 💅 🤩

My ambition then? I had only one thought... and you can’t be surprised by what it was. To dance on stage, all my own, and to have my dance routine choreographed. What better inspiration than this story of the Pink Tutu for my show that will be hitting Kenton?

Of course I had to visit all the little stores near the University, the high street stores and of course Marks & Spencer was a must, a real must! Well, darling, I found my first Pink Tutu! My dear little Pink Tutu, a real statement piece, so glamorous with a soft flowing pink satin with layers of frills. I have to confess I did get quite a few odd looks for being in M&S during a Wednesday lunchtime trying to find that extra-special tulle skirt that everyone looked so fabulous wearing on their days out. 👗 💃 👠

Well, when that day arrived - you know, the show - everyone loved my pink tulle and those Swan Lake dance moves, let’s not forget, I absolutely killed the whole scene, my audience was on its feet... well, all but two people… The Professor (don’t ask me about that one!) and… and…. that rather dull chemistry teacher… I think I had my heart set on being a famous actress after the show! Maybe the pink tutu really is magical, but at this stage I wasn’t sure about a career in drag...

Now darling, don’t let me lose focus - we're off on a pink sparkly mission in Kenton to make a splash. After that little tutu story it is going to be a joyride to Kenton for a day of sparkle and dance. There’s going to be lots of pink in this fabulous journey to this Yorkshire town and you’re coming with me, don’t forget your Pink Tutu darling.

On Saturday, things are about to get absolutely explosive! Yes, you guessed it! We are hosting an entire event with music, laughter, drag queens...and dancing! I'm so delighted and thrilled to be at Kenton Market for the ‘Kenton’s Pink Tutu Night’, there's just going to be so much going on: music, a whole selection of dance displays by amazing performers. It's going to be truly glamorous! But what you’re waiting for, you might say… The Pink Tutu Competition!

*What? The competition? I’m so glad you asked. * It’s a big one too. A competition to create the most beautiful and sparkly Pink Tutu out of anything the competition wants! Well, you might be asking… ‘Will there be awards?‘ Well of course there will, there will be prizes, the competition will be tough, there are even judges, the grandest, the biggest… you can see my vision, right darling? We have a lot of glittery talent going around, but the one who steals the hearts of those judges will be the winner of the Pink Tutu Competition. That will be a moment they’ll never forget, darling! Now, do tell… do you fancy yourself a winner? 😉

I can hardly contain my excitement, oh darling, my Pink Tutu is already in my bag, my little pink heart is throbbing, I just know that this Kenton Adventure will be as pink and delightful as a box full of chocolates. Let’s all take the time to find those delicious chocolates. My Pink Tutu journey will continue as soon as I return home from this lovely trip… It’s good to have those treats every now and again… 🍫

As much as I love my laboratory and all the fabrics, and the research into making clothes and fashion more durable - that’s my science, you see, darling… My heart has belonged to Pink Tutus for some time now and I am happy, happy to be the Queen of Pink Tutus. I really hope my trip to Kenton will make everyone want to buy their own Pink Tutu and join the movement. A Pink Tutu, after all, brings out the confidence in you, doesn't it, darling?
