Oxford, You Pinky Wink! (Blog Post #3642)

Hello my darling dears! Pink Tutu Sparkles here, ready to report live from the magical city of Oxford! I just couldn't resist a quick pit-stop on my way to a sparkly performance at the Corn Exchange – did you know it used to be a medieval market hall?

I mean, it was absolutely screaming "Pink Tutu Sparkles" to me, especially since it's so steeped in history! I've always had a soft spot for places with a touch of old-world charm – even if the history involves some dodgy king or queen. It just gives everything that little bit of extra oomph, wouldn't you say?

Anyway, before I get distracted by another beautiful historical building (I spotted a magnificent church on my walk, complete with gothic windows that looked like they were designed to showcase my favourite colour!), let's talk about the journey!

Now, this might shock you, but even a dazzling drag queen like myself can appreciate a good ol' fashioned train ride. Something about chugging through the countryside, feeling the wind in my carefully styled pink wig and watching the world go by just soothes my soul. Plus, it gives me ample opportunity to practise my dramatic poses, ensuring that every inch of Pink Tutu Sparkles is ready to dazzle on arrival!

The train was packed full of lively students, which just proves that Oxford is buzzing with young talent! It reminds me of my own university days back in good ol' Derbyshire. You see, back then I was just Alex, a lab-coat-wearing scientist trying to unlock the mysteries of fabric composition. Who would have thought that a bit of cotton and some spandex would lead me to this extraordinary journey?!

But the real turning point came at a university charity event. I found myself shimmying into a shocking pink tutu – the one my friends convinced me to try on for a bit of fun. And just like that, everything changed! Suddenly, I realised that life was meant to be a swirling, glittering extravaganza, full of sequins and feathers and, yes, the most fabulous pink tutus imaginable.

After that night, Pink Tutu Sparkles was born, and the world hasn’t been the same!

Speaking of feathers, Oxford is just positively bursting with creativity. My love for the theatrical just went up a notch! There are so many charming theatres and historical performance spaces here - just the place for a queen who loves to put on a good show. It's been such an inspiration for my next costume, one that involves some pretty impressive ruffles (and of course, a sprinkle of pink, it's only fair!).

The real treat came at a quaint little bookshop. You see, I’ve been dying to get my hands on a new ballet book – and you know, I’m not talking about the technical stuff, darling! No, this is the kind of book that makes you wish you were a ballerina prancing around a grand stage, all in that classic romantic style. So naturally, the book ended up nestled snugly amongst my makeup brushes in my glitter-strewn handbag.

I think my real challenge will be finding something new for my outfit – after all, I love my pink tutus so much, how do you outdo yourself, darling? The shops here have been incredibly helpful. And, of course, a good vintage store is always a winner, I picked up the most adorable sequined jacket – it reminds me of something straight out of a 1950s Hollywood film!

The streets of Oxford were like a fairytale wonderland. All the quaint cobblestone alleyways and charming cafes make you want to break out into a twirl or two. Imagine Pink Tutu Sparkles, spinning and swishing down the cobbled streets – an elegant symphony of tulle, laughter, and a little bit of sparkle, that’s what! Just like that fairytale magic, it was almost like I was wearing my own personal pink-tinted spectacles, seeing the world in the most fabulous way possible.

Well, I must be off to grab a quick cuppa and some fairy cake - gotta keep the energy up for the show, darling! Stay tuned for another blog post, filled with backstage secrets, glitter, and some fab photos! Remember, “spread the pink,” it's contagious! And you know what they say - if you don’t sparkle, you’re not trying hard enough. So go forth, my darlings, be fabulous, be fierce, and don't be afraid to show off that pink tutu!
