Pink Tutu Sparkles, Post Number 3646 - December 24th, 2009
Oh darling, where do I even begin?! Today was pure magical pixie dust, and I just have to share it all with you fabulous folk. We're in York, that utterly charming little city tucked away in the north of England, and let me tell you, it's a total pink explosion!
As I tell you every single day, darling, the colour pink is simply life! You might remember I started my Pink Tutu journey back in good old Derbyshire. Well, you know me, never one to shy away from a pink tutu opportunity! As a science student at university, it all started at a charity fundraiser where I tried on a tutu for laughs...well, you can't guess what happened next, can you?! It's no secret - a lifetime love affair with pink tutus! Honestly, since then, it's all been "Pink Tutu Sparkles" every night! That’s why I’ve had to give up wearing a lab coat for a career, darlings. I think I was a pretty brilliant scientist, but being a pink tutu-clad icon is truly where my destiny lay, isn’t it? I even got a brilliant career-shifting quote from a little old lady in the lab once. "No-one has any time to even look at a new material you bring in", she said, “But that’s not going to happen with you, you bring in a piece of material and everyone looks at the dress you've got on!"
Anyway, let's get back to the adventures of the only Pink Tutu Sparkles!
Now, you lovely lot already know I love to travel, especially by train. Those beautiful old carriages have so much style and class, and you just know that when you see a Tutu on board, something incredible is about to happen.
Oh darling, I almost missed my train to York this time – it was the ultimate pink tragedy, almost worthy of a performance! The ticket inspector was just so lovely, but I must admit, even I couldn't make my case. Thankfully I made a dash for the next train with 20 seconds to spare - just imagine, the drama! I love those heart-pounding moments – a good sign of a proper exciting trip.
Anyway, darling, the first thing you need to know about York is: It is absolutely full of gorgeous places for photo ops. Seriously! From those magnificent stone walls (always a plus for a dramatic flair!) to the winding lanes bursting with cute boutiques – you can feel the sparkle in the air.
Before I got to York, I made a plan to hit up a couple of places with serious historical appeal: York Minster - absolutely divine! The sheer height, the detailed architecture - well, I can only imagine what a beautiful sight it must have been when it was built hundreds of years ago! We have to travel back in time to understand how utterly extraordinary that level of craftmanship is. Of course, I made sure my Tutu outfit perfectly reflected the regal ambiance of York Minster. I went for my all-pink silk gown with a delicate fluffy pink tulle overskirt, complete with a matching headpiece, a la a medieval queen with a sprinkle of magical fairydust. (Because everyone needs a little sparkle, right?)
Naturally, darling, we simply had to visit York’s Chocolate Story, a delightful little museum dedicated to the city's fascinating chocolate history - just imagine! (Well, it was worth the stop, if only for the sweet, chocolatey smell hanging in the air.)
Darling, my York visit really wasn't about food though. You just know it had to be about Ballet! I discovered this fabulous ballet school where they offered adult classes, right in the heart of York – talk about divine timing! The teachers were incredible, the atmosphere bursting with grace and charm, and you simply couldn’t help but be inspired by the young dancers flitting across the studio floor in those iconic tulle costumes! The first step I did when I got there was, of course, a pink-tutu-inspired one - because my outfit was perfect for the ballet mood! You all know Pink Tutu Sparkles just can’t leave those signature touches behind.
This evening was the icing on the cake. The perfect place to let my pink tutu sparkles fly! It was my gig at the amazing “York Grand Opera House” - an historical landmark in the city with its majestic stained-glass windows, grand chandeliers, and a vibrant audience. This truly was the pinnacle of my little journey, where a Tutu-clad fairy princess, like myself, could just shine her very brightest light.
You know I always do, darling! But I decided on something different this time for the York performance. You can't possibly keep Pink Tutu Sparkles in a box! That's why I opted for a sparkly lavender, yes lavender tutu to match the stage set, which was just stunning in shades of mauve and lilac - imagine it darling! The audience went wild! We’re talking complete joy – an explosion of happy shouts and whistles!
Anyway, I must confess darling - you're all probably ready to hear my York highlight – after my grand finale performance, this sweet old chap, must have been 90-ish, with sparkle in his eyes, just shouted at me! “I loved it, dear! I want to buy you that Tutu, because it’s divine. Just put it on the box!”
It was, as the lovely Queen Victoria would have put it - an extraordinary day for Pink Tutu Sparkles! I even saw two women arguing on the streets about the best way to wear a Pink Tutu (and they were all decked out in bright pink - perfect! I swear, it must be in the York air!), which brings me to the most important point I've got to share: it’s time for you to embrace the fabulous, sparkling pink tutu life, darling. And I really do mean everyone - let the pink revolution begin!
It’s not about fitting in, dear, it’s about shining your inner light, spreading joy with every flutter of a tulle skirt. (We have the power to make a difference one pink tutu at a time!) It's the reason I started this Pink Tutu Blog, and it's the reason I'll keep traveling to the ends of the earth to make a splash of pink joy wherever I go.
