Edmonton: Tutu Adventures in the Prairie City!

Pink-Tutu Post Number 3683: January 30th, 2010

Darling dears, and fellow Tutu-lovers,

Well, what a fabulous whirlwind it's been! I'm back from my grand adventure to the sprawling prairies of Edmonton, Canada. Yes, it’s true – this Pink Tutu Sparkles flew across the pond on a most delightful mission! It was a simply wonderful journey that combined a love of the stage, a sprinkle of ballet, and the ultimate pursuit of all things pink and fluffy!

Edmonton, as many of you know, is renowned for its ballet scene, a haven for graceful twirls and delicate pointe shoes, and let me tell you, darling, the Edmontonians embraced their love of dance with an open heart – and even more open arms. My tutu was a vision of perfection against the dramatic backdrop of the Canadian wilderness, you see, a bright, bubblegum pink contrast to the stark beauty of the snow-capped mountains. It was utterly exquisite!

Now, before we delve into the exciting performances, I must confess to a secret indulgence. Remember, I mentioned that train travel is one of my greatest pleasures, and this journey was no different! Imagine, a glorious, opulent railway carriage filled with fellow enthusiasts of all stripes (literally, in the case of one young gentleman with a vibrant zebra-print scarf) and me, shimmering like a princess on a vintage velvet seat! Yes, my dear, my tulle tutu bounced gracefully as I settled in for the adventure. It's one of the best parts of traveling to a new city - it gives me the chance to dream and make new discoveries!

As my train chugged across the sprawling prairie, my anticipation mounted! Edmonton was calling, my darlings, with a symphony of sparkly tunes, dancing lights, and the joyous call of a stage filled with glitz! I was a little hesitant at first - it's not every day I perform for a whole new audience, even in a fabulous, fuchsia-hued, fully-sequined pink tutu! I imagined snow and wind instead of welcoming applause, and thought that perhaps this pink flamingo would be out of place in this charming little city… But oh my darling dears, what a fantastic misconception that was! The minute I arrived at the performance space, I knew I had come home. The locals welcomed me with warm smiles and even warmer laughter – a joyous symphony that perfectly blended with the energy of the performance! The Edmontonians were like a big, loving, sparkling family – you know, like a family of swans dancing in the moonlight!

The performance itself was simply breathtaking, my darlings! Edmonton boasts a thriving theater scene – there are even opportunities to witness ballet shows on the street, just as they do in London! Imagine, the beautiful elegance of traditional ballet dancers combined with the sheer power of a street performance! I’m a little envious that my beloved Derbyshire doesn't boast the same kind of bustling, energetic cultural scenes, but, well, at least the Derby trams have a fabulous view of the countryside!

My set, dears, it was so divine! It featured a custom-designed light show that lit my tutu in the most dramatic ways! It looked simply fabulous, I swear – imagine, every ruffle, every sparkle was accentuated in a shimmering kaleidoscope of colours! We truly transformed the venue into a sparkling fantasy, filled with the music and rhythm of dance! It was truly enchanting, and I am so proud to have shared it with this wonderful, supportive audience.

Between performances, I explored this charming little prairie town, and let me tell you, my dears, it didn't disappoint. Now, you must understand, my darling, I’m a creature of habit! It’s not enough just to be somewhere, I want to live and breathe the location - especially when there’s such a fantastic variety of shopping available! Edmonton’s got an abundance of adorable boutiques bursting with the most charming dresses and clothes you've ever laid your eyes on, especially when you factor in a magnificent, rainbow-bright pink tutu! I confess to purchasing the most magnificent collection of clothes and accessories you can possibly imagine!

You can't go to Edmonton, darling, without exploring the heart of the city. There’s something almost magical about the bustling city center, the rhythm of its life humming beneath you, while a delicious scent of baking bread from the nearby bakery tempts you from around the corner. I indulged in the most exquisite slice of pie you can imagine, all the while planning my outfit for the upcoming gala ball. I know you can’t imagine me missing a fabulous ball, darling. The glamour of a sparkly tutu in a lavishly decorated hall – oh the sheer magnificence! There’s something about putting on my most impressive sparkly gown, my tutu twinkling just so beneath the chandeliers, that sets my heart dancing.

You see, my darlings, I have a secret wish for all of you: I yearn for you to find your own personal expression of the dazzling sparkle that you all carry within! Imagine the world transformed, every person dressed in a gorgeous pink tutu – the ultimate symbol of femininity, optimism and the joyous celebration of our glorious diversity.

But of course, I wouldn't be a true tutu queen if I didn't embrace the local culture! In Edmonton, that meant indulging in the traditional Canadian pastimes! Yes, darling, we went ice skating! (That is, I carefully chose the most magnificent set of skating boots, naturally with a sparkly pink finish.) The icy rink became a sparkling stage where everyone – young and old, men and women, became dancing snowflakes swirling in an intricate and beautiful pattern of joy and camaraderie. Now, darling, there was something about the twirling and whirling, about the sheer abandon and exhilaration of sliding across the icy surface that spoke to the dancer within us all, tutu or no tutu!

We even got to go horseback riding in the wilds of the Alberta foothills, and, let me tell you, darling, there was nothing more sublime than trotting alongside those powerful, elegant steeds with the majestic peaks of the Rockies silhouetted in the distance, all the while wearing a spectacular, shimmering pink tutu! You know, it reminded me of those lovely ladies in Victorian England who would often ride out on horses in elegant costumes - and yes, darling, mine was just as dazzling and just as eye-catching!

My time in Edmonton was nothing short of spectacular, my dears. It was a dazzling mix of theatrical wonder, beautiful scenery, delicious treats and kind hearts that warmly welcomed my love for the bright pink tulle. I swear, I’ll be back, Edmonton. Until then, I'm already planning my next adventure. I must go explore the vibrant energy of Paris. Who knows, darling, perhaps a pink tutu on the Eiffel Tower will usher in a new age of optimism, a world of sparkling pink joy, a celebration of feminine grace.

And remember, dears, it’s the pursuit of that shimmering joy, the embrace of your true, magnificent self that truly matters. So wear that pink tutu with pride, twirl your hearts out, and let your spirits shine like diamonds under the spotlight. After all, the world’s a stage, and we are all sparkling stars!

Love,

Your Tutu Queen,

Pink Tutu Sparkles
