Derby Darling!

Oh darling, Derby, what a fabulous day out it was! The air buzzed with excitement, like a thousand sugar plum fairies giggling in anticipation of the theatre curtain going up. And why not? It was TutuQueen, yours truly, Pink Tutu Sparkles, taking to the stage!

This glamorous girl has been on the road a lot recently, dashing about the country in my glittery pink boots, spreading the joy of tutus and sparkly sequins wherever I go! A true road warrior queen, my love for trains, my absolute favourite mode of transport (unless I'm lucky enough to travel by horse), means I can whip around the countryside faster than a speeding sequined shoe!

You see, darling, my mission in life, beyond my career as a highly respected (and surprisingly, for someone who loves a splash of colour, a pretty good) scientist, is to encourage everyone, from grandmothers to grandfathers, to embrace the pink tutu. I'm talking a fluffy, fabulous, frothy cloud of tulle, designed to unleash the inner princess that exists in all of us!

This journey began in the hallowed halls of the university, surrounded by the hallowed flasks and petri dishes. Oh, how I loved the quiet calm of a science lab, the precision, the exactitude…until, that is, the University Ballet Club announced their annual charity event! They needed a brave volunteer for a tutu fashion show.

Do you remember how nervous I was? I mean, imagine - a little science geek, who loved a bit of pink and adored a twirl, trying on a fluffy, magnificent tutu in front of an entire lecture theatre! And what happened? It was pure magic. I became a ballerina, at least for a few moments. The world was a kaleidoscope of colour, the music swirled around me, and I discovered a part of me I never knew existed, all thanks to that beautiful tutu!

And since then, darling, there's been no looking back. Pink Tutu Sparkles was born, and the road to becoming a full-fledged, fully sequined Tutu Queen began. I'm so grateful, it’s been a joyous journey of sparkly madness, and this week in Derby was no exception.

I arrived early, of course. A girl needs time to prepare, and by “prepare” I mean pick out the perfect tutu, coordinate my sparkly makeup, and make sure the perfect shade of lipstick matched my flamboyant outfit. There's no need for rushing when it comes to my favourite part of the day - getting dressed!

Derby itself was a dream. The cobblestone streets whispered tales of history, the buildings had a charming air, and I even spotted a couple of adorable boutiques tucked away on side streets! (Did I buy anything? You bet your sequined bottom I did! One can never have too many feather boas.)

I dined at the most charming little café before heading to the theatre. It was a lovely, intimate venue, just right for Pink Tutu Sparkles. It reminded me of all the small, independent theatres where I honed my act. I was nervous, even a seasoned Tutu Queen gets a little flustered before going on stage. But as soon as I started singing, it was pure joy!

The crowd was warm, laughing, applauding, all dancing along to my signature song - "Pink Tutus are For Everyone", of course. A truly original number written by Yours Truly! The costumes were spectacular, the energy infectious, and the highlight, if I do say so myself, was a little dance routine with a trio of adorable boys dressed as pink teddy bears. Oh, it was fabulous!

Of course, darling, after the show came the meet and greet, which is always my favourite part. All those wonderful people, so excited to chat and share their tutu dreams! There was a delightful couple celebrating their 30th anniversary. They told me they loved tutus as much as I did. How sweet is that?! I told them a quick, glamorous tale about the power of tutus to transport us to magical realms (and how I'm going to encourage a revival of the tutu trend), and then gave them each a pink Tutu Sparkles signature rose! A little memento of our sparkly night out together.

I met some lovely children, too! One girl told me she wants to be a ballerina when she grows up, and she was thrilled to have a tutu queen sign her autograph. Another child even asked for advice on getting into drag! (It's never too early to find your inner pink sparkle.)

But as always, darling, after every fantastic performance comes a good night’s sleep. That's why I always check into a charming local B&B when I’m on tour, one with feather beds and enough lavender-scented amenities to fill a tutu! There’s nothing quite like a night in a B&B for recharging your pink sparklies before setting out on the next leg of the tour.

So there you have it, darling! Another amazing adventure, another pink tutu dream fulfilled! From my amazing audience to my lovely hostesses, to the wonderful shops and charming restaurants - Derby, you truly won this queen's heart.

Until next time,

Your darling Tutu Queen

Pink Tutu Sparkles

(Alex, of course, the fabulously talented, non-tutu wearing lab technician when he's not working his magical drag.)

Remember, darling, I want to see all of you in your favourite pink tutus! Join the pink revolution. You never know, maybe one day even scientists in their laboratories will be rocking the fluffy tutu! Until next time, keep it pink and sparkly, darlings! xx
