Coulsdon Calling: Tutu-tastic Travels to the South East!

Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink-loving, tutu-twirling queen, Pink Tutu Sparkles here, signing in for post number 4375! Grab a cuppa, a pink cupcake (the only kind, really!), and settle in for a journey to Coulsdon, a town I’ve been wanting to visit since, well, forever!

This little adventure started as it usually does – a scroll through my Insta feed and spotting an upcoming ballet performance. I know, I know, you're probably wondering why a queen like me would go to the ballet, well darling, tutus are practically compulsory! It’s like the universe sending me a sign, all those feathered headdresses and floaty costumes just begging to be included in my next tutu-tastic outfit.

Now, usually, my adventures take me to glamorous cities, bustling with theatre, music and of course, plenty of opportunities to strut my stuff. Coulsdon? Not exactly a household name when it comes to high-fashion couture. But as soon as I heard that the Coulsdon Ballet Academy was hosting a performance of Swan Lake at the local community hall, I knew I had to go!

And oh darling, don’t think I took it lightly! For a week, my alter-ego Alex was on overdrive, sifting through fabric samples in the lab, but my mind was focused on crafting the perfect Tutu-Queen look for a suburban setting. We settled on a majestic lavender tutu, a shimmering silver top, and a whimsical flower crown – all set to add a little dash of sparkly glamour to the evening.

Travelling by train, of course, it's far more theatrical than just jumping in a car. As usual, my fabulous train ensemble caused a stir. I must confess, even I am still sometimes startled by the sheer number of people who want to chat with me and tell me how they admire my fabulous outfits! One lovely gentleman, quite clearly a ballet enthusiast, asked me for a tutu-twirling lesson for his wife. (Oh darling, you don’t need a lesson! All it takes is confidence, and maybe a few glasses of bubbly!)

The Community Hall in Coulsdon was the perfect location, nestled in a charming, leafy little cul-de-sac. It had a real community feel to it. After all, it’s the little things that matter! My heart skipped a beat as I caught sight of the vibrant pink sign outside - pink is always a good omen for this Queen!

Now, I’m no stranger to smaller venues, but my darlings, it is in these little community spaces that you truly experience the joy of local art and the talent that blossoms in unexpected places. The Coulsdon Ballet Academy really did bring the magic of ballet to their little stage! The performance was simply dazzling. I was swept away by the elegant dance moves, the beautiful costumes and of course, those glorious tutus! It was just a delight to witness.

After the performance, I got to mingle with the lovely dancers. I even chatted to some of them who were wearing my favourite kind of tutu – a very dramatic pouffe tutu, darling. Such stunning shapes and movement. I almost felt like asking to borrow it just to strike a pose with the dancers, but alas, this queen is far too proper.

You’d be surprised by how much I love this little life! My day job in the lab provides me with a sense of order, a scientific precision in my world – while my drag career allows me to embrace the magic of theatre and the freedom to unleash the most glamorous version of myself. Being a queen is about much more than just wearing sparkly outfits, it's about inspiring others to be their most fabulous selves.

I even helped some little ones pick out tutus from their toy store collection, a magical moment for sure! There’s nothing quite like sharing my passion with others, teaching the younger generation about the magic of dance and inspiring a love of performance in all of its forms.

Of course, no trip to Coulsdon would be complete without a visit to their quaint little market. A kaleidoscope of colour and a delightful aroma of fresh fruit and artisan bread. It felt like stepping back in time, a real contrast to the dazzling glamour I often experience. There was a little flower shop with a particularly striking display of pink peonies - oh, I could have stayed for hours, snapping selfies with these beautiful blossoms!

By the time the sun was setting on Coulsdon, casting a soft golden glow on the sleepy town, my heart was full of joy. I had lived the dream - spreading tutu magic and inspiring joy wherever I go. I believe it’s this kind of love, the kind of joy that embraces everything from grand performances to quaint town markets, that is what truly makes this journey of mine so special!

But darlings, I must away, my tutu needs a wash and the lights are calling. As you all know, my queenly schedule is never truly complete, but know that no matter how far I travel, there will always be a little corner in my heart for the tutu-tastic adventures I have found in the suburbs!

Till next time,

Your Pink Tutu Sparkles!
