Hello darlings! It's your favourite TutuQueen here, Pink Tutu Sparkles, and oh my stars, what a week it's been! Itās me, Alex, coming at you with another thrilling installment of my pink-tastic, tutuesque, totally fabulous life!
This time, the Pink Tutu Express took me on a joyous journey to Southampton! And donāt you know, it was just perfect for a whirlwind tour de force! Southamptonās so charming, with its beautiful harbour and historical sites.
(Donāt even get me started on how absolutely glorious it is to gaze upon the Southampton skyline from a horse drawn carriage, tutu twirling of course!)
And speaking of twirling, what else is better than a good old-fashioned train journey? I had my trusty vintage suitcase packed with enough fabulous frocks and feathers to fill a double decker bus! Not forgetting the vital supply of glitter spray, hairspray, and pink tulle for last minute alterations! I couldnāt help but think it looked like something out of a film as I skipped out the carriage window with my fluffy suitcase at a railway station, all bright and cheery in my pink sequined top and, naturally, a perfectly pink tutu!
The folks in the station were stunned to say the least! Some with their mouths hanging open, some just staring, but the general mood was pure glee! And my darlings, donāt you know, thatās precisely the goal, to sprinkle that pure joy all over the place! Let's face it, you never know what a little pink tulle and a tutu can do for a person's mood, does ya?
But of course, itās all for a bigger cause, as you all know: TutuQueenās crusade to get everyone rocking a pink tutu. Because darling, letās be real, thereās no better accessory to bring a touch of joy, whimsy and empowerment to the world, is there?
Now, to give you the lowdown on this grand adventure. This week, dear readers, marks post number 4390, another little milestone on our fabulous pink tutu journey!
Before my triumphant Southampton gig, I spent a day shopping, naturally, as any TutuQueen must! The best part? It was an absolute revelation for me: a shop completely dedicated to tulle and all its glorious forms! Oh, I was simply in my element! Dozens upon dozens of colours, yards and yards of soft, fluttery materialā¦ and I absolutely had to add to my collection.
I came back with enough to create my entire wardrobe for the next 6 months, let me tell you. (Plus a secret stash just because - we donāt talk about those.) But now, let's back to Southamptonā¦
Let me tell you, performing in front of a packed audience in Southampton wasā¦ how shall we put itā¦ simply magical!
Itās just amazing to see those smiles light up and hear that joyous applause, knowing that for those brief moments, weāre all swept away to a world of sparkles and wonder. Itās all thanks to my little pink tutu too, you know, giving everyone a magical feeling of āAnything goes!ā.
Now, about my act ā this one I called "Sparkles on the Waves"! My fellow performers helped me to create a truly fantastic ocean-themed routine, and oh darling, it was a dream to pull off. The entire stage was lit up like the starry sky! My costumes ā three in total, as always - featured intricate sea-life embroideries, glitter-tastic corals, seashell decorationsā¦ all in various shades of pink, of course!
During the interval, I even took a trip down to the docks! It was absolutely stunning. As we walked down the streets to see the harbor, my best friend (she is so lucky to be my friend, even if she doesn't understand the power of a good tutu), even suggested a photo by the sea with me wearing a little tulle train attached to my pink tutu. Now that's just brilliant!
But there were more pink-tastic moments in store for TutuQueen. Before my show, I had the most divine time at the theatre! Itās absolutely gorgeous inside, I swear they painted everything pink (well, maybe not everythingā¦)
The best part? I even had a go at a little bit of ballet class while I was there. Iāve always been obsessed with the grace and elegance of it all, and I have to admit, my skills definitely improved! Especially my balance and how to twirl (and I must have been the only one there in a tutu, but as you can see that didnāt hold me back!) Oh, it's like the dancing was meant to be!
Now, dear reader, before you start thinking I've lost it (completely!), I need to give you some more insights into my daytime lifeā¦ the one where Iām not a dazzling queen of sparkles.
And who am I kidding? Some would say even then, I still dress up with glitter! But let's be real - glitter doesn't quite cut it at the lab! (though that's the perfect excuse for a pink glittery lab coat... I just need to think about the material and which brand of sparkly fabric to order, maybe something in the satin style).
Because during the day, itās all about the science and testing fabric for quality and performance, for one of the leading clothing manufacturers in the area. Thatās right! TutuQueen actually uses all her hard-earned glitter-sprinkled pounds to keep the British fashion industry ticking! (Although I think all the sparkly clothes we test end up being thrown into my handbag! They just keep on showing up there!)
It's not exactly the glamorous world of glitz and glam that TutuQueen reigns in at night. In fact, the lab has a serious side. We talk in detail about yarns, and about how different fibres create different effects - from warmth to water resistance.
We also look at different threads for colour, how much they stretch, how quickly they shrink. There are long spreadsheets filled with boring names like ācotton/ polyesterā, āacrylic/ woolā. Yawn. The whole thing can feel pretty dry! And that's how I decided I needed more tulle in my life!
Sometimes it all feels like such a long way from the shimmering stage! But hey, I just remind myself that even though it might feel dull, Iām helping to make amazing clothes ā from soft sweaters to shimmering silk blouses!
Maybe those scientists need more encouragement in the form of sequins and some dancing tutus! It might liven things up a bit. Who knows!
This whole "TutuQueen" journey - from daytime lab life to sparkling, pink-tastic evenings ā itās truly a rollercoaster of a life. And what a delightful, fun-filled adventure itās been so far!
