You know how much I adore a good train journey, and this week's adventure took me all the way up north to the fabulous Gateshead! Imagine my excitement: a weekend of twinkling lights, a touch of theatrical magic, and, of course, a plethora of pink tutus!
Now, let me tell you, Gateshead absolutely enchanted me. I'm not sure what it is about this charming town, but there's a certain understated elegance to it. Maybe it's the River Tyne glistening in the sunshine, the cobblestone streets echoing with laughter, or perhaps it's the welcoming energy that seems to emanate from every corner.
Speaking of energy, I felt mine absolutely buzzing on arrival. After all, Gateshead is synonymous with dance, a passion that truly runs through my very core. I couldn't wait to immerse myself in the spirit of the stage and channel my inner ballerina!
I began my weekend escapade by slipping into a stunning tulle masterpiece, my "Sugarplum Fairy" tutu. Oh, darling, the colour! It was a symphony of candy pink and delicate lavender, shimmering like a delicate cloud. You simply cannot resist the allure of a tutu, can you? They are the ultimate statement pieces – a declaration of femininity and joy! And trust me, when you sashay down the street in a pink tutu, you're not just walking – you're levitating!
My first port of call? The Gateshead Ballet Centre. My darling dearies, it was sheer perfection! The airy studios bathed in light, the sweet scent of leather shoes mingling with the rhythm of graceful steps, it was enough to send me into a tutu-twirling frenzy.
After watching a class or two (I just love soaking up the skills and energy of other dancers!), I indulged in my other beloved ritual – retail therapy! Gateshead's shopping scene is truly divine! There were cute independent boutiques, a couple of stunning department stores, and, to my absolute delight, a charming little vintage shop where I stumbled upon the most perfect pink velvet purse! You bet it’s making a guest appearance in my upcoming drag performance!
On Saturday night, the excitement reached a fever pitch with my big performance at the Tyne Theatre & Opera House! Now, if you ever get the chance to visit this majestic Victorian masterpiece, you simply must! Imagine ornate chandeliers, plush velvet seats, and breathtaking acoustics! Honestly, it's like stepping back in time while stepping into a fairytale.
And let me tell you, my performance was a resounding success! The crowd loved my high-energy act, complete with some signature spins, graceful leaps (with a healthy dose of pink sparkle, of course!) and even a crowd-pleasing "tutu-tumble." Oh, my darlings, the roar of the crowd was truly exhilarating! I even received a bouquet of beautiful pink roses – truly a fitting tribute to the pink-loving queen that I am!
Of course, my Gateshead adventure wouldn't be complete without indulging in a little culinary delight. The region's culinary scene is truly something else, offering a mouth-watering array of delights!
My personal highlight was a decadent afternoon tea at a quaint café overlooking the river. Honestly, darling, it was simply divine! Picture this: finger sandwiches, melt-in-your-mouth scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam, delicate pastries, and of course, a pot of steaming hot tea, all presented in the most adorable vintage china. It was truly a perfect blend of elegance and comfort – just like my beloved tutus!
And now, for the big reveal – my newest pink tutu obsession!
