Streatham Sparkles!

Oh darlings, hold onto your tiaras! Pink Tutu Sparkles is back with another exciting blog post from her fabulous adventures! Today, we're sparkling in the heart of South London - Streatham!

Remember last week when I was talking about my desire to see the world in my glorious pink tutu? Well, my fabulous friends, a whole new adventure just sprang to life, thanks to a phone call I received just before heading to work. (Remember, my day job involves the wonders of fabric technology - exciting stuff, but sometimes it doesn't quite have the glitz and glamour of a stage!)

It was the delightful Mrs. Bartholomew, manager of the Streatham Theatre, and you won't believe it, but she'd been reading my blog (squee!). She absolutely adored the picture I posted from my last gig in Bournemouth, the one with me on the pier with a rainbow of pink tutus, the wind swirling them like glorious fluffy skirts.

Turns out the Streatham Theatre was celebrating their centenary and Mrs. Bartholomew thought it would be divine to have a drag act for the grand finale! Naturally, I had to say YES! I was already packing my sparkly bags and ready for a train ride adventure.

Now, for you lovely souls who don't know this, trains have become my second home. Ever since that train trip with my mum from Derbyshire to the National Ballet in London for my very first Tutu Tuesday ( remember, my weekly tradition!), the train has held a special place in my heart. Plus, trains have the magical power of transformation - one moment you're in your lab coat and sensible shoes, then boom, you're sipping champagne in a plush compartment (or wearing a pink tutu - whichever comes first).

Streatham, a little bit of a departure from my usual theatre gigs, which mostly revolve around grand opera houses or opulent ballets in Londonā€™s West End. This time it was something much moreā€¦ local, charming, and beautifully community-spirited. It felt like stepping back in time with its old-fashioned facade, and a real buzz around the little high street. I even found a charming little boutique filled with vintage pink tutus - how could I resist?!

Speaking of resistance, you wouldnā€™t believe the effort I had to put in to resist all the delicious treats in the cake shops, especially that divine lemon drizzle from ā€œLittle Sweet Treatā€. They tell me I only nearly got distracted by the chocolate ganache cake, but I have to draw the line somewhere!

Oh darling, you wonā€™t believe the warm welcome Streatham gave me! The theatre itself is an absolute gem - all plush velvet seats and intricate details, so beautiful it made me want to twirl! The air hummed with anticipation as people gathered for the eveningā€™s performance.

There was the local dance group performing an absolutely enchanting number ā€“ an interpretation of Swan Lake, which of course gave me serious tutu envy (and you know Iā€™ve got my fair share of pink tutus!). I managed to get a quick photo with them after the show ā€“ they were so talented, and their tutus, well, simply delightful!

My act? It was themed around the colours of a tutu - so naturally, I went for an array of pink hues and sparkle ā€“ think shimmery fabrics, a feather boa and even a tutu made entirely out of neon pink sequins! It was quite the spectacle, I tell you. I love to combine the power of ballet with drag; it's such an artistic marriage of two worlds that often go together but don't quite know it!

And darling, I cannot tell you how fabulous the audience was! They lapped it up, laughing at my jokes and joining in on my renditions of my favourite pop songs - the music was my homage to the magic of musical theatre. There was so much warmth and love in that room, you could feel it crackling in the air.

The night culminated in a grand finale, complete with confetti, glitter bombs (all, of course, in various shades of pink!), and everyone (even Mrs. Bartholomew!) on stage wearing pink tutus! It was magical, absolutely magical, my lovelies. And it just shows that a pink tutu truly can make the world a happier place!

Youā€™ve got to visit Streatham sometime ā€“ itā€™s full of friendly people, delicious treats and the Streatham Theatre really deserves a visit. I left with a warm heart, some delicious treats and enough photos for about fifty blog posts! Oh darling, I simply adore sharing my journeys with you all, and can't wait for my next exciting adventure!

Love,

Pink Tutu Sparkles
