Hello darlings! Pink Tutu Sparkles here, and I'm absolutely bursting with excitement to tell you all about my fabulous trip to Caerphilly! This is blog post #4810, and I am honestly still amazed that you guys are all still reading and enjoying the journey with me. I really couldn't do it without your unwavering support. Let's get straight to it then, shall we?
It all started with a chance encounter on a sunny Friday afternoon in Derbyshire. You see, I was doing my usual post-work ritual - swapping the lab coat for my fabulous pink tutu, grabbing a cheeky Greggs on the way, and planning my next show! As I sashayed past the window of my favourite haberdashery, I spotted a sign... a sign that screamed, "Pink Tutu Sparkles, this is your calling!"
It read, "The Caerphilly Castle Arts Festival" - featuring an "Open Mic" stage and a "Drag King Competition"! The fate was simply undeniable! I knew that this was my chance to bring a touch of Pink Tutu Sparkle magic to Wales.
And of course, as every drag queen knows, a little travel is always good for the soul! I mean, what’s more glam than zipping through the countryside in a bright pink train carriage, right? You see, the train offers endless opportunities for fabulous fashion moments – and nothing looks quite as stunning against the green meadows zipping past the window as a sparkly pink tutu! You all know I love a good tulle-draped pose!
This time, I decided to ditch the platform shoes for a comfy pair of ballerina flats - a look both glamorous and practical! Now, don't get me wrong, I absolutely love a good strut, but the cobbled streets of Caerphilly were demanding a more gentle approach, you see.
After what felt like a flash of glittery fabric, I found myself standing outside the most enchanting medieval castle! The history, the culture, the air... it felt as if it was waiting for Pink Tutu Sparkles. This is where I started to formulate my routine, I can't tell you too much, it’s going to be a massive surprise, but I promise you lots of sparkly surprises! I thought, what’s more theatrical than a fairytale?
After setting my tutu and sparkling wand on a comfy sofa, I decided to venture into the heart of Caerphilly. And you know what I discovered? It wasn't just about the magnificent castle! The whole town oozed character! I found a delightful little vintage shop with an array of vintage hats and gloves - so glamorous, I practically cried with delight! It was there that I stumbled upon a pair of sparkly lavender gloves, perfect for the opening number. There’s nothing like some fabulous accessories to complete the look, my dears.
Of course, every good outing needs to end with a sumptuous, well, maybe not sumptuous, meal, but definitely colourful meal. That's right! I found myself at a quaint little cafe serving the most exquisite, oh-so-pink strawberry and prosecco sorbet. This was definitely a new treat and you just know I'm adding this into my travel regime! It’s important to nourish the sparkle, you know!
Finally, the big day arrived! The Caerphilly Castle Arts Festival buzzed with energy. The excitement of performing for such a unique, welcoming audience fueled my sparkle! It was my absolute dream come true!
The crowd was amazing! From grandmas to little kids, everyone had that bright-eyed, twinkle in their gaze, eager for a little bit of magic. They clapped along with my songs, giggled at my witty banter, and cheered with such warmth that my pink tutu practically exploded with joy. I even taught some little girls my "Pink Tutu Sparkles dance routine", so proud to see the next generation of dancers embracing their sparkle!
After my performance, everyone wanted to pose for pictures with the Pink Tutu Queen. It was a truly magical moment - knowing that I had brought a little bit of pink tutu magic to the lives of so many. It really makes all those late nights rehearsing, outfit-making, and those slightly ridiculous train journeys completely worth it. It’s honestly more than just a drag queen lifestyle - It’s about connecting with people. Sharing joy, happiness, laughter - and yes, glitter. And yes, I do always keep some spare sparkles for all of the fabulous, eager people that come and see me!
Of course, a journey is never really complete without a little shopping therapy. That afternoon, after soaking up the last of the festival cheer, I wandered through the stalls and found myself the most magnificent piece of silk - the brightest, most gorgeous pink, like the wings of a flamingo! This gorgeous fabric is already calling for a fabulous design - a masterpiece of feather ruffles and shimmering rhinestones! You guys can bet on me to keep you updated on all of that progress on the website and I can’t wait to show it to you!
Now, you know I've mentioned before how important it is for me to share my love of all things pink. And the Caerphilly Castle Arts Festival was the perfect setting to spread that joy! I spent the evening mingling, sharing stories with fellow artists and encouraging them to unleash their own personal sparkle. I can’t say what inspired me the most, but there’s something magical about a gathering of talented artists – they are just bursting with ideas and ready to express themselves. I loved it and I think I’ve found a real community!
That night, after a delightful bowl of ice cream (pink, of course!), I nestled in my hotel room and reflected on all the memories from the day. It's incredible what a little bit of sparkle and joy can do, isn't it? The experience made me realise, we are all like stars, bursting with our own unique light and capable of making the world a more magical place, one sparkling tutu at a time. I was delighted to be able to use my little pink-tutu-fueled platform to make a difference, and to connect with fellow creative spirits in Wales!
