Today, we're whisking off to Bangor! Oh yes, that's right, the Bangor of Northern Ireland, where I'm absolutely thrilled to be performing at the lovely Theatre at the Mill tonight. I'm always up for a challenge, especially one involving a train ride. Who needs a glamorous stretch limo when you can travel in style on the railways, right?
My Journey to the Jewel of the North
It's so funny, when I'm not in drag, you'll find me tucked away in a laboratory, doing a bit of fabric analysis. It's amazing to think I went from researching the structural integrity of a pair of denim jeans to shimmering under the stage lights, twirling in a custom-made pink tutu, but I wouldn't have it any other way!
Speaking of which, I'm sporting a truly spectacular pink tutu tonight, complete with sequinned swirls and tulle that flows like the wings of a beautiful flamingo! I'm a little bit in love with it, and you can tell it wants to twirl, darling! Oh, the anticipation is killing me! Iāve chosen to complement it with a crystal encrusted tiara ā it's just a little bit 'royal' don't you think? To top it off, my bespoke, bedazzled pink handbag will carry all my makeup essentials, along with the tissues, just in case. We never know, the tears of joy are bound to come!
Ballet Fever: A Life Lived in Pink Tutu Perfection
So how does this tiny, pink tutu loving, scientist find herself in Bangor, of all places? It's all thanks to a beautiful, shimmering, magical fabric called tulle, darling! My whole life changed when I donned a tutu for the first time, and it just took a while for the world to catch up!
Remember my little story? You can't deny my dedication to all things pink and tutu related, you can almost smell the ballet on my perfume. As a teenager in my beautiful little village in Derbyshire, I was in the university ballet club, and I saw my opportunity for some light-hearted fundraising! When we put on the āThe Nutcrackerā I managed to snag a pink tutu.
Yes, that moment ā that feeling, of the tulle around me, my arms outstretched as I gracefully glided around the dance floor ā that's when the seed was planted, my dears. That's where the dream began. I knew there and then I was destined to twirl for life in a world of sparkly costumes and laughter!
The Magic of Dance
Dancing is pure magic, isn't it? The way a ballerina can seemingly float through the air, the expressions, the music... it's truly captivating. My life revolves around movement, even when Iām in the lab testing fabrics, I try and infuse it with a bit of twirl, or a stylish ballet plie here and there. No matter how busy the world gets, how scientific things become, itās important to remember that we're still humans with emotions, and those are best expressed through movement and, well, dancing!
When I watch a ballet, whether it's a world-class performance at the Royal Opera House or a community performance in a local church hall, I'm transported. There's just something about it that connects with you on a primal level, donāt you think? That, and of course, the twirling, the elegant costumesā¦ they are all truly spectacular! And so is my tutu!
Adventures on the Road to Bangor
My trip up north has been rather enjoyable so far. Just stepping out onto the station platform at Derby was enough to spark my creativity! With a touch of my favourite lip gloss, I knew it was going to be a beautiful day! The carriages on the train were surprisingly spacious, making the journey so much more enjoyable, though a couple of my fellow travellers were rather startled at first!
But everyone was really lovely! In fact, they were very enthusiastic! One little boy in particular was fascinated by my sequins ā a future performer in the making, perhaps? One thing I do like is, I always make the journey more entertaining for people. I can't help myself, I always need to try and bring joy wherever I go! So, yes, weāre getting the train to Bangor, with Pink Tutu Sparkles in tow!
It was on that train journey, my dears, where I hatched the most glorious ideaā¦ but we'll get to that in a minute. The sheer excitement of a good old British train journey combined with the thought of Bangorā¦ just thinking about that glorious pink spotlight, and a dance routine inspired by a local Welsh folktale... My oh myā¦ Iāve decided my signature routine this time is the āTutu in a Tudor Houseā! You'll have to come to my Bangor performance to see that one. It will feature some fabulously quirky choreographed dance moves, inspired by Welsh historical architecture.
Bangor's Buzz
What can I say about this town? Itās magical! Thereās an energy about it that reminds me of my early drag career, but somehow this town takes the whole thing to another level! Bangor itself has some amazing architecture. Imagine, a Tudor House, full of historic memories and secrets, with a Pink Tutu in residence. What a mix of eras, styles, a dash of glamour, a twist of tulle, I think my signature routine will capture all the magic of Bangor, all right!
What's even more thrilling is the sheer amount of vintage clothing stores I've spotted. The vintage vibe, so cool, so hip, so retro, oh my. Maybe we can come up with some more outrageous outfits to use during our dance routine! Or I could add it to my collection at my very own vintage storeā¦ Pink Tutu Sparkles vintageā¦ how fab would that be? The pink dream isnāt ending anytime soon, I tell you!
A Little Pink Tutu Dreamā¦
Oh, the things you dream about, dear readerā¦ The journey of this amazing tutu is just starting! You know, one of my big dreams is to create my own fashion line of gorgeous tutus in all sorts of fabulous colors and textures. Itās funny that my lab work, by day, is such an incredible juxtaposition to my stage career at night. But who said we need to choose? Who says we canāt have a bit of science in our shimmer and glamour? There is, believe me, a serious connection there. The kind of science and the fabrics I'm experimenting withā¦ well, you will all just love the tutus itās leading to.
As for this new idea Iāve come up with on the train to Bangorā¦. Well, it's time to unveil the newest part of my lifeās ambition: Iāve been talking with a group of dancers, some local experts in ballet who run their own school, who've asked me to collaborate on something truly specialā¦ but it's a secret! ( For now, at least!)
Pink Tutu Sparkles: An Ambassador for Joy
As much as I love sequins and sparkle, itās really about spreading joy, darling! And what better way to spread joy than to wear a fabulous pink tutu? Letās just say the train passengers seemed to find me very entertainingā¦ I could totally see myself taking to the streets in full drag, my gorgeous tutu making it a truly fabulous sight. Now there's an idea for my next project!
Thereās nothing that quite compares to bringing some laughter and joy into someone's dayā¦ and let me tell you, my dears, itās catching. In fact, I even persuaded one of the train guards to try on a little pink tutu. They were a little shy at firstā¦ until they realised how absolutely amazing they looked, and a big pink smile spread across their face. And what do you knowā¦ I can honestly tell you the journey to Bangor was even brighter with them onboard! We all deserve a bit of Pink Tutu Sparkles in our lives, wouldn't you say?
