Helloooo my darlings! It's your girl Pink Tutu Sparkles, ready to sprinkle a little sparkle onto your day!
As you know, I absolutely live for spreading the joy of pink tutus - it's my life's mission, and you'll be seeing my pink fluff wherever I go! Today's destination: the fabulous Basingstoke!
It's a bit of a trip from Derbyshire, so I decided to travel in style - the glorious train, of course! There's nothing like settling into a comfy seat with a good book, sipping a cuppa, and watching the world roll by. The countryside was gorgeous, a kaleidoscope of greens and browns bathed in the golden afternoon light - it definitely put me in a sparkly mood.
I have to confess, before I became a full-fledged drag artist, I hadn't even considered going to Basingstoke! I mean, a science geek in a lab? Cue the dramatic eye roll But since my first performance, oh boy, have I realised that the joy of pink tutus truly knows no bounds!
So what brings me to Basingstoke you ask? Well, get this, a tutu festival! It's like a dream come true! Imagine, hundreds of pink fluffy tutus all swirling in perfect harmony. I could die a happy pink tutu-wearing drag queen! 💖
Speaking of happy, I can't tell you how thrilled I am to be getting the chance to meet you wonderful Basingstoke lovelies! I'm going to be performing my signature ballet-themed drag set at the town hall - you can catch me shimmying and twirling across the stage in a custom-made tutu that I designed myself. (It's got a beautiful touch of shimmering silver, which I think really plays up the light and airy feel. Trust me, you're gonna love it!).
But let me tell you, getting here wasn't without its hurdles! Remember, being a drag queen is a 24/7 gig! It takes so much effort to keep up this dazzling persona, even when you're on the move. I had to find time for all my pre-show rituals: packing the sparkly makeup and finding my perfect hairpiece. Plus, of course, the big reveal... choosing the perfect tutu! I might be travelling in my everyday clothes to avoid attention, but I'll be bursting into my fabulous, dazzling Pink Tutu Sparkles in a blink of an eye.
Now, let me spill a secret about me. I might be Pink Tutu Sparkles onstage, strutting my stuff, but off-stage I'm just a regular Alex - your average scientist by day. Yep, that's right, I actually work in a lab, testing fabrics all day! It might seem like a world away from sequins and feathers, but there's a hidden connection... fabrics are what make tutus! Sometimes I'll be meticulously examining a swatch of fabric, thinking, "That would be absolutely fabulous in a new tutu." And wouldn't you know it, I actually developed a super strong, wrinkle-resistant fabric for tutu making that has a gorgeous shine, just like all of my fabulous stage outfits! You'll find it at your local fabric store, the name on the label is "TutuLux". Maybe one day I'll even manage to develop a new type of tutu fabric that actually shimmers and glows! Just imagine the effect that would have on my dance routines! 🤩
My journey to becoming Pink Tutu Sparkles is kind of hilarious actually! I actually started out as a plain, regular science student, the one who only had an interest in the scientific aspect of ballet! Imagine the surprise when I donned a tutu for a university fundraiser. There was this instant spark! Like magic! And suddenly the stage was calling! ✨
You see, all these years I’d felt like I had a certain type of sparkle that was getting lost in the lab. There I was, amongst all the lab coats and chemical bottles, surrounded by some incredible things – like fabric fibres and colours - yet, I felt that it wasn’t truly allowing me to truly express my full potential. It's so strange to think that now, a scientist by day and a pink tutu wearing drag queen by night has become the most authentic version of myself! It makes perfect sense now though, that both worlds can coexist! It’s been a great challenge pushing myself to combine two completely different worlds. In fact, I can say that both careers compliment each other more than you would think! The scientific mind I've developed comes in super handy with all those sparkly stage props! 😜
