Gateshead, darling! Pink Tutu Sparkles is here!

Hello, darlings! It’s Pink Tutu Sparkles here, and it’s absolutely a delight to be writing this post from the wonderful town of Gateshead! It's my 5461st blog post – you could say I'm becoming a bit of a seasoned pro! You all know, I love nothing more than sharing my adventures, my fabulous looks, and my absolute adoration for all things pink tutu with you. And Gateshead has certainly lived up to expectations – you just wait until you see the outfit I've pulled together!

Let's be real, it's been a dream getting here. It might seem silly, but a journey by train, especially when you’re in full drag and have a magnificent pink tutu billowing around you like a cloud, just feels incredibly glamorous! There's something magical about gazing out of the window, feeling the rhythm of the tracks beneath you, and imagining you're travelling through some fabulous storybook.

Anyway, darling - let's get back to the actual reason I'm here! It’s showtime! You know how much I adore performance, how my heart just beats a little faster whenever I get to share my love for ballet, my pink tutu, and everything sparkly with you. So, imagine my delight when I was invited to perform at the fabulous 'Tutus & Tiaras' fundraiser here in Gateshead! My costume? Well, let's just say, it’s more than a bit spectacular – think crystal embellishments, swathes of pale pink silk, and just a hint of that quintessential ballerina grace.

My mission here, besides giving a performance that will make the audience swoop from their seats, is to encourage as many people as possible to put on a pink tutu. Now, I know what you're thinking - "But Pink Tutu Sparkles, that's just bonkers! What could possibly make everyone wear pink tutus?". And I say, why not? Think about it! You’ve got the whimsical spirit of a ballet dancer, the confidence to wear a fabulous piece of clothing, and the sheer joy of a pink, sparkly world. What’s not to love, my dears?

Speaking of ballet, I couldn’t resist popping in to watch the local ballet school's annual performance. Their enthusiasm was infectious. And those tutus? Absolutely breathtaking! They say to watch a dancer is to experience flight. And let me tell you, those young stars gave me a literal lift in my heart.

Of course, it wouldn't be a trip to a new city without a bit of retail therapy. The local vintage shop – ooh darling, I almost went bankrupt. A little vintage teacup, a lacey pink dress - what more could a girl want? My heart did flutter when I discovered the most exquisite vintage tutu. I had to snatch it up. A pink and silver concoction, perfectly tattered with the memory of a hundred pirouettes and jete leaps! Honestly, the stories those little things could tell... It’s going to be my new favourite – just wait till you see it on Instagram.

Gateshead is truly a town of contrasts. So, we took a scenic stroll to the riverside – I just can’t get enough of those wide open spaces! We also saw a glorious park with so many vibrant colours! Even the street art is adorned with pink accents! Maybe I just see the world through rose tinted glasses. Or perhaps, this is a sign – the Universe is aligning to ensure we’re all swept up in a wave of pink tutus, one shimmering, twirling, sparkling step at a time.

Let’s talk a little about myself, shall we? If you haven't already figured it out, Pink Tutu Sparkles, this shimmering vision you see, is my stage persona. I call it performing my drag. My real name is Alex, and I work as a scientist by day! Now, you might think – a scientist, how fabulous! - but even a science whiz has time to twirl.

Before you say 'What?', hear me out, lovelies! My obsession started at University, at least my first introduction to pink tutus! As part of the university ballet club we were all trying on tutus for a charity event, I guess they thought the public might find it amusing. One glance in the mirror and my life was changed – it felt absolutely exhilarating! As I looked in the mirror wearing this giant, flamboyant tutu, a smile cracked open on my face. It was almost a spontaneous outburst, I didn't even know I wanted to, yet suddenly it was the only thing I did want, to spread this pink tutu joy.

You know, life really is quite unexpected – I always pictured myself in a lab coat and safety goggles, making sure that textiles don't fall apart or burst into flames. But fate, dearie, seems to have other plans.

By night, Alex morphs into Pink Tutu Sparkles – and my mission? You guessed it – I want to help everyone wear pink tutus, and see the joy that they bring. Because why not? Life is too short not to be a little extravagant. Just picture the world, bursting with pink tutus, dancing and twirling, radiating a vibrant splash of color wherever they go!

And with a wave of my magic pink tutu wand, I declare my commitment to continue this mission to fill the world with the wonder and delight of pink tutus, one performance, one blog post, one glittering dance move, at a time!

Until next time, darlings. Don't forget, you can find more adventures and outfit reveals on my website www.pink-tutu.com! Stay pink!
