Slough, Slough, Slough!

#5462

Oh darlings! How are you? Is that a hint of pink I see in your wardrobe? Is that a flicker of sparkle in your eye? You know what this means! It's time for another blog from your fabulous friend, Pink Tutu Sparkles!

Today's journey took me, in a rush of glittery, pink, and glamorous glory, all the way to the magnificent town of Slough, in my lovely little pink, glittery suitcase. You'd be surprised how many sequins and feathers fit into a medium sized cabin bag... but then, this little drag queen is all about efficiency. I am an absolute master of packing, thank you very much, just like I'm a master of everything else! Well, not everything. But almost everything!

As a self-proclaimed Queen of Tutu, there is absolutely nowhere I wouldn't go to share my love of pink and tutus. And frankly, darling, this pink princess has absolutely no intention of retiring! In fact, my dear friends, my tutu wearing days are only just beginning!

I must confess to a little secret though. Don't tell everyone, but before I was the gorgeous, talented Pink Tutu Sparkles, I was a lab rat...well not literally, though sometimes my lab life felt pretty chaotic, with lots of weird mixtures and testing. And to think it was just this tiny pink tutu which sparked the transformation into who I am today! It's true, it's all true!

It happened during my science days, my university years. I was studying something super scientific like, umā€¦ fabric science (I can't really remember!) . We had a huge fancy dress fundraiser and I tried on this bright pink tutu that belonged to a girl in my university ballet club. It was simply magical! I knew I was meant to sparkle, wear feathers, and be the biggest, most fabulous tutu-wearing queen ever! And I couldn't resist the glitter.

Anyway, this little pink tutu with the big sparkly heart took over my world, and suddenly, science labs became less alluring and stages and sparkly outfits started to become irresistible. I had this itch, darling! You know, the one that says You must go to that stage, wear that outfit and make it BIG!

So, darling, here I am, a queen in pink, travelling the country and telling everyone about the joy, the glitter, the pure fun, of tutus!

Of course, no Pink Tutu Sparkle trip is ever completely smooth sailing! For starters, darling, I do have my very special requirements when it comes to transportation! There is a definite code of etiquette regarding Pink Tutu Sparkles' preferred transport:

* Pink Tutu Sparkles Travel Guide for Everyone to Adhere To:*

1) * Trains, Darling:* If there's a railway station nearby, I will use it! Because they have special compartments for me... with little compartments for all my glittery outfits... they are perfect! Just give me a big compartment with mirrors so I can get all the right angles for photos, and you can see just how fabulous I look! 2) Horses... Oh! Now this is a more special treat. Nothing makes a grand entrance like arriving on a fine stallion, looking like an absolute goddess, in a big, pink, tulle tutu! My goodness, what a glorious moment for a fabulous Pink Tutu Sparkle!
3) I donā€™t ride a scooter, (a pink one perhaps!) no! Iā€™m always on the top, not the bottom, of a mode of transport. Itā€™s so much better! So No motorbikes, either, no darling! They have that horrible metal bar, right?! Not at all flattering, and that terrible leather jacket - whatā€™s all that about, darling! Itā€™s not my vibe. You just canā€™t put pink tulle on top of it, without a total fashion disaster! A scooter, with it's flat seat - well it wouldnā€™t allow a pink tutu to fall properly into shape! A pink tutu wants to float, move, darlings! 4) Planes... Donā€™t make me laugh, sweetheart! They are too crowded to let me have my full sparkle potential, the luggage is always a disaster... so much more glamorous to be able to watch the scenery go past from a window.... A big window in my train compartment.

Right, Iā€™m off on a little tangent! My dear friends, thereā€™s just too much I want to tell you about Slough! So here it is - the low down on the fantastic events that are on in Slough.

I was, I admit, absolutely bowled over by Slough, and not just because they have fantastic shops.

First things first, Slough had the best fashion boutique for a queen of my fabulous caliber...it even had a section called ā€œsparklesā€! I was in there, like a hot knife through butter, I could just tell the ladies in that shop got the importance of fabulous sparkle... even the security guards thought so, even they had a sparkly belt, though Iā€™m sure that was more to do with their role! I felt just so at home!

Of course, after a bit of clothes shopping (nothing less than absolutely necessary to add to my gorgeous costume wardrobe), I just had to have a look at what Slough had to offer when it comes to culture and, well, everything else.

And what does Slough offer? Why, it has absolutely everything any pink-tutu wearing diva could need!

I just had to visit The Curve Theatre. We have this really fabulous place called the *Royal Opera House in London. Well, the Curve felt like a more manageable, friendlier, but still grand, little version of it! I am going to say something daring... it could even possibly be even better for a first-timer like me.

Of course, you can always guarantee me at the ballet, darling, if it's on offer, but there was some fantastic music, some dance, and even some theatre too! All at The Curve. They have shows on now, (thatā€™s right! I'm here right now! ) They had a great version of the ā€˜Wizard of Ozā€™, for starters, a real big family show, you know the typeā€¦ if it can hold the attention of small children, well, it can definitely entertain a big one like me!

Then they have a production of ā€œPrideā€ by Anna Jordan, now that really got me going, it sounded so fiercely fabulous! It sounded right up my street. In fact, they had this fantastic sign up: "Pride by Anna Jordan. The one show for your life!**" ...How could I resist?! You'd think I was at a convention!

If that wasnā€™t enough (well, it probably would be for some, definitely for someone who loves their sleep, itā€™s just such a long journey from my Derbyshireā€¦and darling, that train was jam-packed! Itā€™s always full when you arrive, isnā€™t it?)

Well anyway, the big reason I went to Slough, you see, is because it has a whole festival of *things to see, things to *do, and things to *wear ! Now that is something, even a diva of my stature needs to experience. I am going to make this extra special - this section deserves a title of itā€™s own!

#SloughFeastOfFun

Darling! Have you heard about this fabulous festival? Did you?

Well now youā€™ve got no excuses.

  • Itā€™s called the Slough Feast!

Slough Feast, you say... And now darling, imagine how fabulous it must be if they had a whole festival devoted to ā€˜Sloughā€™?

The Slough Feast Festival, you say ... well Iā€™m off, you are coming, we are all off, in our tutus, with a little bit of glitter, of course, and with sparkles, oh, so many sparkles! We can get on the trainā€¦ maybe we can hire a coach.. just imagine it - a pink tutu express coach! What could be better? Well, nothing thatā€™s for sure.

Thereā€™s loads going on there - too much to even start listing!

* But let me tell you this:*

There will be *something for everyone at this festival*!

Thereā€™s even this fantastic Slough Feast Art Trail. Theyā€™ve got it all, all sorts of things to look at: "An unexpected journey of visual arts, workshops, street theatre, dance, music and live entertainment". Now, my lovely friends, that sounds absolutely fantastic! It just oozes pink and sparkles!! Itā€™s so fab, even I donā€™t have time to go to *all the things I want! So why donā€™t you give yourself a treat!

Just go to Slough - just look at this:

#FeastFamilyFun

Itā€™s a family festival. Kidsā€™ stuff? Itā€™s definitely on the list for me! I am just so childlike insideā€¦ darling, there are some who think I am just childish, in every sense, and well, those who don't need to see my dancing!

There are some great events lined up for familiesā€¦ youā€™ll want to come, so get a group together, all you have to do is tell everyone to wear a tutu. Thereā€™s so much choice: craft workshopsā€¦ live music ... arts & crafts (more sparkleā€¦ what more could I need!), giant puppets, (my size exactly!)

  • But look at this! Thereā€™s an amazing-looking Interactive Puppet Trail. *No, Iā€™m not just saying it, just because Iā€™m *excited by the word puppet. I am sure they would want me to wear one of those gigantic puppetsā€¦ now that would make an entranceā€¦ darling, even a Queen like me needs to retire at some time. That would look incredible! The pictures I could take in that puppet ... the perfect opportunity to post on Instagram...

But for me the best bitā€¦ itā€™s called:

The *Slough Feast Lantern Parade. Now darling, *do you know what a Lantern Parade is ? Imagine - a huge collection of *glorious *lanterns. All lit upā€¦ sparkly lights.... just gorgeous...*

Now if that doesn't sound a must-see event, I donā€™t know what does! My god! My head is spinning with ideas to make this absolutely fantastic. I will probably be carrying a lantern with some pink tutu decorations. Why not, darling! It would make it a real Pink Tutu Sparkle moment!

    • Now look at this: # Feast Food & Drink #

My goodness, they've even got a special ā€˜Taste of Sloughā€™ food market.

You can find: "Street food and gourmet stalls". Just imagine this! My goodness... that means it has my kind of food and it means it doesnā€™t have those awful, terrible, disgusting ā€œVegan Burgersā€! (I mean darling, we all know vegan doesnā€™t sound like it should have burgers at all!) ... so I can have my own ā€˜Slough Feastā€™. The food market is a real must seeā€¦*

    Thereā€™s some music, live entertainment, thereā€™s even a *ā€˜Festival Clubā€™ ā€“ a real 'Club' ā€¦

And there's so much more going on... but honestly, you have to see it for yourself. Sloughā€™s definitely getting a tick from me for sparkly and amazing...

Oh Slough ... I just know that Iā€™ll be back... you're the queen of my heart! What do you think Iā€™ll be wearing? Itā€™s secret! You have to be patient! If I donā€™t go to Slough... itā€™s not just because thereā€™s something better. Because well, darlings, there isnā€™tā€¦

Iā€™ve already booked my train ticket, and itā€™s a return! But then darling, you know that a Pink Tutu Sparkle can always change her mindā€¦.
