This trip’s all about embracing the spirit of New York – a city that pulsates with energy, a city that whispers "take a chance," and a city that makes this queen feel right at home! ✨ And, as always, my trusty pink tutu is along for the ride. After all, what’s a fabulous adventure without a dash of pink and a swish of tulle?
This whole New York escapade is the culmination of months of planning, endless rehearsals, and squeezing every last penny out of my little scientist's paycheque. Being a drag queen is a dream job, you know! 🌈💄 It’s more than just glitter and sequins. It’s about owning your confidence, expressing yourself with wild abandon, and turning the world into your own personal stage. But honestly? Sometimes it’s also about eating an entire pot of glitter frosting whilst singing off-key to Madonna! 😂
From Derbyshire to the Big Apple

So, it all started back in the good ol' days of university, where yours truly – Alex, that’s my secret identity – was just another lab rat trying to pass a Chemistry exam. Except… that’s where the fairy tale starts! I was in the uni’s ballet club, helping with their charity fundraiser and I decided, "Right, let’s do it – on with the tutu!". It was pink, obviously! 💖 I had the time of my life twirling about on stage, feeling absolutely fantastic. And then – bam! The spark ignited. My pink tutu queen persona was born. 🩰⚡️
Since then, it's been a whirlwind! I've transformed my scientific passion into a love for glittery fabrics, learning the fine art of draping (and surviving, let’s face it, those late nights of making custom costumes! 🤫 )
And Now, Back to New York...
Anyway! Back to the magic of Manhattan! ✨ This trip is already chock-a-block with excitement. From hitting up those fabulous Broadway shows (there’s just something special about a a good theatre show, especially after you've spent months, if not years, putting together your own!), to finally exploring the Metropolitan Museum of Art. 🏛 I hear it's just brimming with fashion inspiration! And the costume collection… I can hardly wait! Can you tell I'm obsessed with clothes? 😉
Now, if you’re imagining this little Pink Tutu Sparkles all prim and proper, sipping champagne in a ritzy lounge... well, think again! 🍾😂 This Queen’s got to hustle! Between dazzling on stage, performing at all the best venues and fairs, and yes, even catching some fabulous ballet performances (Ballet always gets my tutu tingling!), I'm keeping busy. But honestly, who wouldn't want to spend their days surrounded by dancing, glamour, and all things pink? 🩰💃

Alright, you know I’m a list lover. So here are just a few of my favourite moments from New York, so far, in a tutu-licious list format:
The Tutu-tastic Broadway Glamour: Let’s be real, New York City’s THE place to get your Broadway fix. 🎭 And I’ve had a total fangirl meltdown at every single performance. Seriously! It's incredible the magic they conjure on those stages. I was in the front row for "Hamilton", which was just beyond extraordinary. So many talented performers! I even met Lin-Manuel Miranda – I swear, my knees almost buckled! 😂
Riding The Pink Tutu Wave on the Subway : Oh, the New York Subway… what can I say?! 🚇 I must confess I found myself making quite the splash with the locals on this commute! 🧜♀️ My signature pink tutu was a real conversation starter - lots of people wanting a selfie, and honestly, a little shy about making eye contact, at least at first. But once I broke out the glittery, high-fashion moves, even the most jaded New Yorker cracked a smile. 😄
New York's Tutu-astic Shops: My credit card may be groaning but I can’t help myself, I simply MUST go shopping! New York City is an absolute mecca for the fashion-obsessed! 🛍 I mean, how can you resist those independent designers with their quirky styles and killer fabrics? Speaking of fabric... My day job may involve science but that just gives me extra insight when it comes to fabric sourcing! Sometimes you really have to go for the real deal and those couture shops just give me such a buzz! 🤩
But Remember, Life’s a Stage
You know, in between the glitter and the sequins, my life's about a lot more than just looking pretty! 💖 (Although, you bet your sweet tutu that looking fabulous is high up there on the priority list!) It’s about reminding everyone – even those of us in our little, ordinary worlds – that you've got a magic tutu waiting to be unveiled. And guess what? It doesn't even have to be pink! It’s that spark inside that needs to shine through, the confidence that needs to be let loose. It's the "you" that makes you uniquely fabulous, regardless of your daily grind, that you can't hide! 🔥
