Hello, darlings! 💋 Pink Tutu Sparkles here, and I'm positively giddy to tell you all about my trip to South Shields! This was post number 5502 for my fabulous pink-tutu-tastic blog (check it out daily at www.pink-tutu.com!). As usual, I'm here to share my love of tutus, pink, and everything that glitters!
This time, I travelled by train! Not just any train though, oh no, I travelled in style with my trusty steamer trunk filled with a wardrobe fit for a tutu queen. It was an adventure! I even met a lovely couple who were just as enchanted by my fabulous ensemble as I was by their stories. We shared a cuppa and some biscuits (because who can resist a good biscuit, darlings?).
Now, South Shields is a real gem! The seaside air, the lovely locals, the adorable little shops, and of course, the opportunity to perform at a wonderful community festival! They were absolutely lovely! A couple of little darlings even stopped me to ask me about my outfit, and they told me all about their own dance classes! My heart melted, I love when children get involved in the arts.
Before my performance, I made sure to have a delicious fish and chips from a little takeaway near the pier. It was a real treat, and it fuelled my inner Sparkles for the evening! The food wasn't the only fuel I needed though...I'm sure my loyal followers are aware I have a real love for a cheeky cup of tea. You see, tea is a magical elixir. With just a splash of milk, you can make your own tea-tastic world! I was absolutely thrilled to meet the proprietor of a lovely little tearoom called "Tutu-tea," what a lovely name! The lady there told me about how she'd recently redecorated, taking inspiration from the "ballet in motion" style. Of course, she had to mention that pink was her favourite colour too! It was such a lovely treat.
And now for the grand finale – the performance! I danced and twirled, my pink tutu swirling like a cloud of joy. The audience cheered, clapped, and even some were shouting "more tutu, please!" My heart, it almost exploded! The crowd, it was positively enchanted. You know it, darlings! Seeing smiles on the faces of my audience is pure magic. I felt that South Shields shimmered that evening with every single sparkle I performed.
I know what you're thinking, "But Alex, how can you afford to travel so much?" Well, darling, I perform! Yes, I make a living by doing what I love! When I'm not dazzling you on stage, you can find me in the lab, working as a scientist. But every night, I transform! My real name is Alex, but I always knew that Pink Tutu Sparkles was in there, just waiting to come out!
The secret is to turn your passions into opportunities, darlings. I wouldn't be anywhere without the incredible support of my amazing family. My mum is my number one fan and always encourages me, and even though I'm studying to be a scientist, my parents were a big influence. When I first told them I wanted to start performing in drag, their faces just lit up. The first thing I wanted to do was surprise them at my graduation from university. I managed to get a special performance space booked and then I arranged for them to have their usual front-row seats.
That evening, I had them completely fooled! Even though I'd only just got into my graduation dress, when the announcer called my name to come on stage to receive my degree, I pulled my graduation gown open, and there, for all to see, was my tutu. Their reaction was incredible! You can watch it on my YouTube channel, and you know that it went viral. My dad even has a tutu hanging up in his workshop!
Now, I know that this life is not for everyone. I mean, not everyone has the confidence to wear a pink tutu! But let me tell you, dear reader, once you've tried it, you'll never look back!
I love that the Tutu movement is getting bigger. You see, life is too short to be dull. Let your true self shine, darling! If you dream of swirling in pink tulle, go for it! Do a ballet class, even try on a tutu for charity. You never know, you might just discover a love of sparkly pink tutus as much as I do. I bet you’ll even want to join the pink-tutu movement.
