East Kilbride: A Tutu-tastic Adventure! (Post #5503)

Oh darling, darlings, gather round! Your favourite pink-tutu-wearing, adventure-seeking queen is back with another fabulous travel blog, this time all the way from East Kilbride! This vibrant town in Scotland just had to be on my "To Tutu" list. You see, a dear friend of mine, the fabulous Brenda Bon Bon, told me about a fantastic ballet school here, run by the most delightful woman with the most incredible name - Mabel Meringue. Apparently, they had a big "Spring Blossom Ballet" performance coming up, and I just had to see it!

And let me tell you, my lovelies, this was no ordinary performance. I felt like I had been whisked away to a whimsical world of fairies and blossoms, with swirling tulle and shimmering sequins as far as the eye could see. The children danced like little pink-tuted ballerinas, full of joy and passion, their smiles shining brighter than any diamond. Oh, and you should have seen the costumes, darling! The mothers, I swear, looked like they were stepping out of a scene from a vintage Hollywood movie. Just picture flowing silk dresses, delicate floral motifs, and all the shimmer and shine a girl could ever dream of! My heart simply melted. It was, as we say in Derbyshire, "dead lovely!"

The journey here was an adventure in itself. Now, most of you know I have a soft spot for both trains and horses. Thankfully, East Kilbride was a horse-powered trip, a real treat for this queen! A beautiful black mare called Willow (a bit of a mouthful, I know, but such a lovely creature!) carried me through rolling fields and breathtaking landscapes, a scene straight out of one of those romantic period dramas you find on Netflix.

Arriving in East Kilbride, the air was crisp and clean, and the people were as warm and welcoming as a cup of English Breakfast tea. I met a lovely woman at the local café, Fiona, who just had to share a little pink tutu anecdote with me! "You see dear," she told me, eyes sparkling, "Back when my granddaughter was little, we would twirl around the house in our tutus to 'The Nutcracker.' The memories!" Well, my loves, I was instantly smitten with Fiona. She has a spirit that resonates with every fibre of my being, a real love for all things sparkly and bright, the kind of person who would wear a tutu to the grocery store without a moment’s hesitation. High five, Fiona!

Later that evening, I indulged in the true treat - a magnificent, delicious three-course meal at the finest restaurant in town, The Rose Petal. Oh, my loves, they knew what I needed: a divine lobster bisque starter, a main course of baked salmon with lemon butter, and a dessert to die for - a raspberry mousse so light and fluffy, it practically danced on my tongue. My journey was already shaping up to be perfect.

The highlight of my trip, however, came the next day, when I was able to join the children from the ballet school for a special afternoon tea and dance workshop! Now, darling, if you ever have the opportunity to twirl with children in a room full of pink tutus, take it! It’s a magical experience, filled with giggles and joy, that simply lifts the soul. We even did a quick performance for Mabel Meringue and the mothers! It was delightful and I got to “strut my stuff” a bit, if you will!

There was only one problem. I forgot my travel mascara! A queen needs her mascara, even on a whirlwind trip! And you’ll never guess what the darling Fiona, the wonderful café owner, had for me when I stopped in on the way to the train station: a little pink tutu bag full of tiny samples of her homemade raspberry mousse. It wasn't quite mascara, but it did sweeten my parting. Fiona, you're a queen! You may not be a performer in the “official” sense of the word, but darling, your heart's desire to see everyone, even a drag queen, wear pink tutus shines brighter than any stage light. And as you’ve discovered, that is something we all need to embrace.

Remember, my loves, embrace the power of pink, wear your tutus with pride, and never, ever let your inner child be overshadowed. See you in the next adventure! XOXO,
