Wellingborough Whirlwind: Pink Tutu Sparkles Takes on the Midlands!

#TutuQueen, Blog Post #5542

Hello my darling darlings! Pink Tutu Sparkles here, back from another whirlwind adventure. This time, I graced the charming town of Wellingborough with my pink tulle presence, and let me tell you, it was a total dream!

As you all know, a true Pink Tutu Sparkles journey is never just about the destination. It's about the glittery, pink-hued path taken, darling! And this one started with a morning train ride. Now, there’s something utterly fabulous about gazing out of a train window at the passing English countryside, dressed to the nines in a sparkling pink tulle masterpiece and feeling like the Queen of all the fields. I may be a little partial to trains over planes - they allow for far more elegant entry into a location!

Wellingborough, I must say, is absolutely lovely! It's got a quaint charm about it, and there was a little tea shop, where I enjoyed the most exquisite pink cupcakes. I do have to say, even when I'm travelling, my passion for the colour pink truly shines through!

This trip, however, wasn't just about sipping tea and indulging in pink sugary treats. I had a performance to prepare for. And a performance at the Town Hall, at that! You see, darling, spreading the gospel of pink tutus and the joy of ballet is my calling. Whether it's a local pub or a grand stage, my mission remains the same: get everyone twirling!

Now, some of you might be wondering: How did this Derbyshire scientist-turned-drag-queen find herself on stage in Wellingborough, performing in a shimmering pink tutu? Well, my dears, it all started in university.

I was a science student, you see, the sort who used to spend my days amidst beakers and test tubes, trying to understand the intricacies of fabric molecules. However, every week, my heart danced to the rhythm of a very different kind of experiment: ballet!

Joining the university ballet club, I found my calling, the perfect place to let my inner twirling princess take flight. That was when fate, in the form of a pink tutu donation box, smiled down on me! Donating, then trying on, that first pink tulle masterpiece, something clicked. The power, the freedom, the joyous twirl of a tutu. And there was simply something magically pink about it that stole my heart!

This pink obsession, coupled with my love for theatre and dance, was the perfect concoction to create the flamboyant drag queen known as Pink Tutu Sparkles. But the road to this glittery existence wasn't paved with roses, dears, it was paved with lots and lots of pink glitter!

From small pubs and local fairs, to more sophisticated settings, I have worked tirelessly to raise awareness about the beauty of pink tutus and the transformative power of dance. Believe me, when I started, many folks thought a pink tutu wearing queen was just plain odd!

I even remember one instance in the early days. I was booked at a pub in Nottingham. Now, Nottingham, it's not known for its sophisticated arts scene - they’re more used to their lace. However, when I shimmied onto the stage in my glorious, pink-feathered ensemble, a look of utter delight spread across the room! I had some gruff bikers in the corner literally giggling at my frills, while a couple of elderly gentlemen, who’d arrived looking grumpy enough to sour a bottle of gin, were completely entranced by my rendition of a particularly intense rendition of 'Swan Lake.' They clapped so loudly I thought the ceiling might come down!

However, these are just snippets of the adventures I’ve been on and I won’t let a bit of grumpiness put a dampener on my passion.

So, to answer your question, my trip to Wellingborough was no mere fleeting fling with fate, darling! It was a full-blown whirlwind of sequins and feathers, with every performance filled with the same magic I’ve always strived to spread. It’s a chance to not only perform, but to help a community experience the joy and wonder of movement.

As always, the crowd at Wellingborough was amazing! You should have seen them! We had mums and daughters dressed in pink, a couple of couples attempting to ballroom dance, and even a man with a pink tutu under his coat – who was it if it wasn't my Pink Tutu Sparkles doppelganger? He looked so excited! He might have just been in for the pink cocktails, mind you!

Speaking of pink, darling, let's talk fashion! I may be a scientist by day, but the Pink Tutu Sparkles wardrobe requires a whole other set of laboratory skills! This trip, I went for a delicate blush pink tutu with sparkling feathers and a seriously sparkly pink sequin top - so glamorous it even stole the attention away from the Town Hall architecture! But, most importantly, it moved well.

One of my most favourite parts of performing in my tutu is watching how people react. So often, when people see a tutu, they have this look of wonder in their eyes, like it reminds them of something simple and joyous. It’s like a doorway to their inner child, opening up possibilities! The best reaction? A little girl’s gasp of pure delight - I felt like I'd given her the most precious gift!

The performance in Wellingborough was, of course, more than just dancing. It was about connection. Sharing my love for ballet with an audience, even the grumpiest folks! And every laugh, every twirl, every sprinkle of glitter spread a little bit of joy.

And that, my darling darlings, is the true purpose of Pink Tutu Sparkles – to create a world filled with tutus, sequins, and glitter – and, of course, a whole lot of pink!

So, tell me, do you wear pink? Have you ever considered taking ballet class?

Until next time, my dears!

Keep twirling!

Love,

Pink Tutu Sparkles.
