Hello, darlings! Your favourite pink-tutu-wearing queen is back with another adventure, this time in the charming town of Rochdale! 🩰👑 Now, I know what you're thinking: Rochdale? What could possibly be so fabulous about a place like Rochdale? Well, hold on to your tiaras, because I'm about to tell you!
This was my 5723rd post for you lovely lot, and oh my gosh, Rochdale was a real surprise. This wasn't just any old town, oh no, this place was dripping in charm, steeped in history, and practically vibrating with a delightful energy. I'd arrived on the 1st of September 2015, all thanks to a sweet little performance booked at the Rochdale Town Hall. Imagine it – a pink tutu-clad queen bringing joy to the hearts of a bustling community in a town like this. It was absolutely divine!
Before my grand arrival in Rochdale, my journey there was truly magical. Now, a lot of my travels involve the trusty ol’ train. It's so quaint, you see, a proper British way to journey, chugging through the countryside, taking in the scenery, with a nice cuppa in my hand. This time though, it wasn’t the usual choo-choo. No, my dear, I was on a horse-drawn carriage! Can you believe it? It was a real treat, a luxurious gallop through the fields of Derbyshire – my very own pink-tutu chariot, I felt like a princess, but with a sprinkle of glitter and a whole lot more confidence, of course!
Once I finally arrived in Rochdale, I was like a kid in a candy store. First things first – it's all about the shopping! Now, don't get me wrong, you won't find a Chanel boutique in Rochdale, but you will find a glorious market filled with stalls selling gorgeous vintage clothes. And let's face it, darling, the real stars are the clothes! There’s nothing more inspiring for a drag queen than the chance to rummage through treasures of the past and uncover the perfect sequinned gown. I scooped up a little vintage fascinator with feather boas for my performance – oh, it was a right riot!
But Rochdale is more than just about clothes, darlings. This town is bursting with history and charm. From the beautiful cobbled streets to the quaint old buildings, I could tell Rochdale had a rich past just waiting to be explored. I spent a lovely afternoon exploring Rochdale Town Hall - a real architectural marvel! Just imagine me, swirling in my pink tutu against the backdrop of that stunning old building!
And who would have thought that a little town like Rochdale would have the most spectacular ballet studio? I was delighted! As a serious ballerina in my spare time (not a ballerina in my full-time spare time, darling, that wouldn’t get my research done!) , nothing delights me more than a little pirouette here, a jeté there. I found a fantastic ballet studio where I had a fantastic little ballet class in the afternoon - I swear, it made me pirouette right into the town of Rochdale's heart!
Later that evening, it was time to show off my sequins! The Rochdale Town Hall, all lights and gloriousness, played host to a performance that’ll make this day etched in my memory forever. It’s about showing that drag, darlings, can be done anywhere, it’s a performance, and a real joy to be a part of in this glorious place! My set was a symphony of pink tutus, with a little glitter to add some sparkle to the stage, and a dose of good ol’ fashioned, flamboyant fun. And guess what? It went down a treat!
Rochdale truly has stolen my heart! Not only for the stunning clothes and charming streets, but also for its history and, let's be honest, its people! These folk are the absolute loveliest. They embraced me with open arms, all giggling and enjoying the fun. It felt like the whole town was shining as brightly as my glitter!
