You know how I adore travelling, how a good train journey makes my heart sing? This time I traded the sleek, high-speed train for a proper old-fashioned steam engine, chugging through the Welsh countryside with the smell of coal smoke in the air. Just like a fairytale journey, complete with fluffy white clouds against a sapphire sky and fields as green as emerald.
Merthyr Tydfil, or Merthyr as the locals call it, was on my list for ages! A real steel town, known for its history and culture, not to mention the stunning scenery, the mountains like majestic giants, keeping watch over this little corner of Wales. But you know what else has caught my eye? The stories about the Merthyr Tydfil dragons! Legends say a dragon lived here once, its scales gleaming gold and green under the Welsh sun. And how amazing would it be to find one nestled amongst these dramatic hills?
My performance tonight is in a beautiful old theatre, Theatr Cyfarthfa, steeped in history. Just imagine, the walls have seen a thousand tales unfold on its stage, stories of love and loss, heroes and villains, and yes, maybe even a pink tutu wearing drag queen! This theatre is also a Grade II* listed building ā you wouldnāt believe the amazing, intricate details all around the auditorium and the fantastic stained glass windows, a breathtaking sight to behold!
Speaking of sights to behold, what do you think of this glorious new pink tutu, complete with cascading layers of tulle, shimmering with glitter and delicate pink feather boas around the edges? The shop owner said I was āan inspirationā and "a shining beacon of light" ā¦ Oh, she's such a sweet, sweet soul! You can tell this little town is full of friendly people. I was treated like royalty at the station, everyone offering a cheery āgood day!ā and helping me with my massive trunk. You can't beat that warmth!
Todayās shopping trip wasn't just about my performance outfit, darling! No, I found some absolutely divine silk scarves that will add the perfect touch of colour to my existing tutu collection, all in shades of pink, obviously! And how could I resist the gorgeous beaded purse with a pink dragon appliquĆ©? Just picture me tonight, twirling in my tutu, sequins shimmering, clutching this beauty with the magnificent dragon, as I grace the stage!
Speaking of dragons, I have to talk about the Welsh Dragon Tea Shop! Itās nestled in a quaint little alley, with a charming tea room with pastel-painted walls, floral wallpaper, and delicious little dragon-shaped cakes. The owner is an absolute delight, sheās actually a famous dragon breeder (itās a very real thing here!) with a penchant for all things pink ā so naturally, sheās a big fan!
Itās time to get ready! Tonightās show is all about the music of Grease (one of my favourites!), think 'Pink Lady' gone wild, but with more tutus!
After the show, I'm off to try a Welsh Dragon hot chocolate with extra marshmallows at the most divine looking little cafĆ©! (I hear they have a special sparkly pink milkshake ā a dream come true!)
I know youāre wondering what Iām doing for tomorrow, right? Well, rumour has it thereās a fabulous antique fair, Iāve heard tell of Pink Flamingo's Antique Delights, which might have the most exquisite pink trinkets, perfect to add a dash of sparkle to my collection! Plus, I have to visit the majestic Cyfarthfa Castle. Iāve been researching the history and folklore ā oh, the stories they could tell! Maybe the old castle knows all the secrets of the Welsh Dragons?!
