Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-wearing queen, Pink Tutu Sparkles, here with another thrilling adventure! This time, I took my fabulous self all the way to Bilston! I know, I know, you might be thinking, "Bilston? What's in Bilston?" But trust me, this little town in the West Midlands held some truly sparkling surprises.
You see, I’m a woman of simple pleasures. Give me a pink tutu, a steaming cuppa, and a good old-fashioned train journey and I'm happy as a clam! I'd been yearning for a trip to the Midlands for ages, and my calendar finally cleared up for a day trip on the 20th of March. My fabulous sparkly coach was ready, so I packed up my sequins and boas and set off to find adventure!
You see, I’m a firm believer that you can find a splash of glamour anywhere you look. I’ve learned that over the years, because you never know when or where you might bump into a performance or a chance to brighten up the day for a stranger. So, off to Bilston I went!
I admit, my first few hours in Bilston were…well, a bit on the quiet side. You see, dear readers, I’m a creature of habit and enjoy my familiar surroundings. I’m known for being a bit shy in real life. So when I got there, and things weren't exactly popping, I did wonder if maybe I should have stuck with the theatre show I was invited to in Nottingham…
Anyway, I am a firm believer that you can find adventure in the unexpected!
As I ventured out, searching for a bit of Bilston charm, I happened upon the cutest little shop. It was bursting with pink, sparkles and glitter – a true fashionista's dream! Of course, I couldn’t resist stepping inside and finding some treasures. It’s not often I get to go shopping with my name on the shop front, right?! I walked in feeling a bit sad that Bilston was just a normal town and a bit low on pink, and then the shop just leapt out at me with the most vibrant collection of bright, fluffy pink tutus. You’ll never guess… I bought three new tutus. Don’t tell Alex. 😉
I grabbed the best cup of tea ever in a lovely café with some of the sweetest owners ever. Turns out they love a good tutu! My friend, Jenny, used to dance in ballet too, you see! Who’d have thought there was so much tutu love in Bilston?!
Then I decided to see what treasures Bilston’s arts and crafts scene had to offer, and what did I find? You’ll never believe it! An incredible artist working on a mural full of pink, feathers, glitter, and, you guessed it… pink tutus! My inner pink tutu enthusiast was doing backflips at this point! And it was just my kind of style - so bold and bright. I struck up a conversation with the artist, and we ended up chatting about the power of self-expression through art. The fact that we had that in common, two totally random strangers who'd never met before, reminded me of the power of finding connection, whether you're in a tiny town like Bilston, a sprawling city, or somewhere exotic!
I was lucky enough to meet some lovely locals who told me all about Bilston’s history and hidden gems. Honestly, you wouldn't believe what secrets this little town holds! I even got to see a few fabulous street performances. It turns out, Bilston loves a good dance. One guy even did a spontaneous street dance wearing a neon tutu - I am in absolute awe! You just don’t find that kind of fabulousness just anywhere!
One of the most beautiful moments, honestly, was catching a local bus. It was crowded, packed with people heading home after their days, but as soon as the music turned to something upbeat and catchy, a local dancer started popping and locking right in the middle of the bus. No one gave her a second glance - Bilston was embracing her completely. The look on everyone’s face…pure joy, and that’s the kind of thing that truly sets my heart dancing. I wish my bus trips at home were as fun!
So, here I am, back in my cosy corner of Derbyshire, reminiscing about my Bilston escapade. This town taught me something crucial - sometimes, the greatest adventures are waiting in the unexpected. You never know what dazzling treasures you might uncover when you dare to explore beyond the ordinary!
