Westhoughton Whirls & Pink Tutu Thrills! (Blog Post #5933)

Oh, darlings! It’s your fabulous Tutu Queen here, Pink Tutu Sparkles, and today’s adventures have been pure Westhoughton magic! Buckle up your sequins, grab your sparkly fans, and prepare for a pink-tastic ride through my day as I conquer the North West with my signature twirls and, of course, the essential pink tutu!

Now, you might be thinking, "Westhoughton? Isn’t that, like, miles from anywhere?" Well, let me tell you, dear reader, every little corner of this fabulous world deserves a touch of pink tutu sparkle, don't you think?

But before we get into all the fun, let’s take a moment to celebrate this amazing day. Today is my birthday, darlings! I'm turning… drumroll … TWENTY-SEVEN! Yes, believe it or not, this sparkly queen has aged another year. But fear not! Age is just a number, and my spirit of adventure and love of all things sparkly are as vibrant as ever!

Anyway, I must confess I started the day with a little twinge of nervous excitement. This was my first time performing in Westhoughton, a charming little town nestled somewhere in Greater Manchester, and I was eager to bring my brand of flamboyant fun to this new audience.

The journey to Westhoughton was, as always, a whirlwind of fabulousness. A classic journey for me – I travelled by train. You know, there’s just something about a good train journey – it’s so cinematic, with all the windows and passing scenery! Of course, the perfect soundtrack to any Pink Tutu Sparkles journey has to be the "Sound of Music". Who can resist a little Julie Andrews? Sings “The hills are alive… with the sound of music…!”

Anyway, I wasn't exactly "climbing every mountain," but I did find myself perched in a delightful carriage filled with families enjoying a day trip to the seaside. You see, I don't shy away from being a bit of a tourist myself! It's about soaking in the atmosphere, you see, feeling the energy of the place.

The day’s adventure was to be a fair, with games, rides, and, most importantly, a stage for yours truly to share my unique brand of drag with the world. The moment I stepped off the train, it felt as if I’d stepped onto a movie set. Imagine it! A fair, all bustling with life and the sounds of happy children, the smell of hot dogs, and, oh yes, the glorious, unmistakable aroma of freshly popped popcorn – a symphony of childhood memories!

And there was I, amidst it all, a splash of vibrant pink in the form of a tutu! Let's just say my entrance was anything but subtle, but that's the Pink Tutu Sparkles way. A swirl, a twirl, a wink, a little hair toss, and a confident shout of “Hellooo Westhoughton!”, I felt a rush of adrenaline as my heart fluttered, and I knew I was ready to give it my all! The crowd cheered. The kids gasped. It was truly a magical moment!

Now, dear readers, I am going to tell you a little secret. For the last six months I have been studying ballet. Ballet, darling! Yes, you heard that right – this drag queen, your beloved Pink Tutu Sparkles, has been twirling and leaping at a local dance studio every Wednesday night! You’d think, after all my years performing, I wouldn’t need to study the art of dance any further. But oh darling, I find new things to learn about the beauty of movement each time I go.

Now, in a previous blog post, I may have told you about how I became hooked on pink tutus, a memory from when I was still Alex, studying a Science degree at the University of Derby. The uni was throwing a charity event – a costume ball – and I found myself with my nose stuck in the charity shop clothes rack, in the "costumes" section. I found the pinkest, most glorious tulle creation, and before I knew it I had this incredible feeling, the feeling of a transformation. It was like finding my alter ego, or perhaps, finally stepping into who I really was! Then, the uni dance club put on a performance for the ball. I knew they needed more tutus, and guess who took on the role of "tutu technician"?!

To cut a long story short, a pink tutu changed my life! And in fact, now here I am, at the Westhoughton Fair, about to perform a mix of ballet inspired choreography to pop music, all while in a pink tulle tutu, ready to embrace every moment!

My set was pure Pink Tutu Sparkles magic. I channeled the grace and power of ballet in my moves, making sure my flamboyant personality was shining through in each and every step. A sprinkle of sass, a hint of showmanship, and the infectious energy of pure love for pink, for performance, for the art of transformation - it was all there!

There were tiny ones watching, their eyes wide with awe as they saw a tutu-clad queen take centre stage. They weren’t even afraid to clap along, and one of them even asked if they could wear my tutu, “You can borrow it, sweetheart!” I winked, and, “if I could get everyone in a pink tutu, the world would be a better place” flashed through my head. It was as if the little ones understood the universal language of pink-tutu sparkle. There are no borders, there is just joy, shared and felt by all.

It was after the last bow of the night that a little girl, maybe five years old, came rushing over. Her eyes were bright with the magic of the performance. “You’re a real princess!” she proclaimed. “I want to be like you.”

"Well, then, you can!" I said, embracing the little one in a warm hug. "There are no rules when it comes to being you. Just like I’m always being the most sparkly, pink tutu princess I can be!”

I took a moment to consider what the girl had said. I think her innocence gave me some real insight, reminded me why I am so happy to be me and that what I’m doing in pink tutus has real power. Maybe all you need is to sprinkle a little magic into your day, in a pink tutu or otherwise, and the whole world could change, a little bit, bit by bit, until everyone has that inner princess glowing out.

Of course, the joy wasn’t only for the tiny ones. The adults had fun too, even the gentlemen! One of them called out from the back, “We need more pink tutus!” and I had to chuckle at how seriously some people take pink tutus – this isn't just a fashion statement, it’s a life philosophy, a way of living!

As I packed up my bag and said farewell to the magical world of Westhoughton Fair, I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude. A huge part of being Pink Tutu Sparkles is being grateful, taking in the love and support from the crowds I entertain. I know what I am doing with my life. I’m not afraid to stand out. I know my mission, to get everyone wearing pink tutus! This, I know, will take time, it’ll take lots of traveling and lots of pink tutus. And that’s ok! There is so much to see and do out there. My world tour continues. It’s a journey full of sunshine, laughter, and plenty of twirls, and, of course, the magic of a pink tutu!

I am not sure where the journey will take me next, dear readers, but if you've ever wondered where to find your very own pink tutu, take a look at the website.
