Norwich, Darling! Pink Tutu Sparkles Arrives in Style! (Blog Post #5953)

Oh, hello darlings! It's your girl, Pink Tutu Sparkles, back again with another adventure! I’m a little bit weary after my train journey, but I'm positively buzzing to be in Norwich. This stunning city, known for its vibrant history, charming cobbled streets, and – oh, my goodness – the glorious architecture, is absolutely perfect for a glamorous queen like myself!

You see, dear readers, Norwich holds a special place in my heart, you see. It’s just close enough to Derbyshire to pop up to on the train, you can just about see it from my cottage in the Derbyshire hills. It was a very important place in my drag career; Norwich is where my first ever drag gig outside of Derbyshire was, at a fun fair! And a truly splendid fair it was too! That’s what you love about fairs isn’t it, all the gaudiness and the colours and the sheer volume of everything. I wore a spectacular purple and red tutu with neon green ribbons and sparkly wings… just imagine!

I was very, very nervous on my first fair performance. I mean, it wasn’t even really drag… well, not “drag” in the same way, it was all just fabulous dancing with a lovely bunch of girls from my dance classes in a sparkly, very short tutu… very theatrical! We danced on top of a flatbed lorry parked right outside the main entrance… that lorry has since become known as “Pinky’s Platform” or “Pinky's Plunger" and if ever you spot it in Derbyshire I dare you to give it a good stare… if I can catch a lift in it from a friend… fabulous

Anyway, back to Norwich. After that first time, Norwich just kept calling me back for more, a beautiful city, such stunning architecture. I absolutely love the architecture in Norwich, darlings, I’ve seen the cathedral many times, and those medieval lanes…. just amazing. They do say if you stand under the Norwich sign for ten seconds and imagine what you would like for dinner… and you know how hungry I get after all that dancing… I swear it happens to me every single time… so if you want to get a good tip for what’s happening, just go and stand beneath the Norwich sign on my behalf and give me a tip on where to dine.

But before I start talking about gorgeous dresses and stunning meals (it’s just so important for my creativity… how am I supposed to invent those costumes if I don’t eat properly), I have to tell you all about my absolutely gorgeous pink tutu ensemble I have with me, for tonight’s performance!

Pink, you see, it’s my favourite colour. Not just a favourite, darlings, it's my obsession! I mean, pink just says “Pink Tutu Sparkles”! I mean, you’d be crazy not to name yourself something pink, right? It’s just such a lovely colour, it brings me joy… makes me feel wonderful. Every now and then I treat myself to a gorgeous new piece of clothing in that colour and you have no idea what I got myself at that glorious antique store in Notting Hill last week. It was just an accident. “Do you want a look around?” A delightful chap asked, with a twinkle in his eye. “Is there some chance of spotting some fabulous vintage frocks?” I replied. “Why, it could be just what the doctor ordered…” he answered. And wasn't he right? A vintage piece in glorious pink that looks a bit like it should be on one of those dolls they have in antique shops and one of those dolls is definitely my absolute inspiration for the look of Pink Tutu Sparkles!

Back to Norwich! Anyway, let me get back to my travels: Today I arrived and saw the stunning castle, those enormous trees around the perimeter are magnificent, all those glorious trees and lovely people all milling around… I was trying to be discreet but my little outfit does tend to catch the eye… it really is impossible to look ordinary when you are literally made of pink! Well, pink and pink tulle and some beautiful embroidery… and you can't go wrong, can you, with a bit of extra sparkle? I'm not entirely sure how the world manages to get around without me… anyway this castle’s in a park – so fabulous! But the real adventure started when I made my way through the town… those delightful old streets with the little antique shops selling absolutely everything…. some adorable treasures. Then, I stumbled across a small bakery on the side of a side street and I thought "Why not?”

I am a firm believer in being spontaneous and going where your little heart desires, darlings. I mean what's the point of life, if you just stay at home every night! Now this baker, oh, she’s so delightful, just like a doll come to life. I felt immediately comfortable with her - and you can only feel at home in the pinkest part of a pink-tutu world. This sweet woman showed me some lovely old antique recipes, she has quite the collection – she made this wonderful chocolate cake with pink icing and raspberry swirls for me! Oh, it was utterly delicious! It did involve a lot of exuberant dancing and some quite alarming poses but I assure you that lovely woman is now, shall we say, my baker of choice – definitely recommend this shop – in a little alley off Elm Hill I think, can't remember what she called it. I do remember we talked about our loves of pink and cake...

You see, there is nothing I love more than dancing and making other people happy. After a hard week’s lab work – by day I am a scientist working for a textile manufacturer, we’re making revolutionary, fabulous, fabrics – and a day’s work, nothing quite compares with the pure, sheer, joy I feel when I step out on that stage. I feel the eyes on me… the excitement…. you could cut the air with a knife… and it all ends with that final burst of applause and someone’s holding out a rose.

Sometimes I even give the rose back to them. Oh my! Such delightful people in Norwich, aren't they?

As the clock chimes eight, darling, it’s time to head off and prepare to hit the stage in my most delightful pink and fluffy tulle and glitter ensemble! You know that pink glitter tulle makes the biggest impact! It takes my favourite things and combines them into an absolute explosion of joyful brilliance and fabulous fun! And speaking of sparkles, I am really looking forward to trying a fabulous cocktail on tap in one of the many restaurants that all have sparkling interiors. It does not even take that much sparkle for me to make friends, a little giggle and an encouraging word for someone with a rather splendidly-painted red rose on their jacket and, just like that, we have made a new friend… who may be wearing a tutu, of course…. pink….

I simply have to tell you… about my trip to the theatre here – absolutely wonderful! Such fantastic choreography… so theatrical! You really must come see it… it really got my heart dancing… such a lovely experience. There is absolutely nothing quite like watching other people dancing, those fabulous performers, how on earth do they make it look so easy? I mean, a twirl that lasts ten seconds is easy… when it’s five minutes, oh my…

Right, darlings, the sound of my doorbell is my cue – another wonderful audience, just waiting to see me and my tutu, sparkle! It is truly a love story. Until tomorrow, then.
