Ooh darling! You just won’t believe what an adventure I’ve been having in this fabulous city! My adventures are getting more epic than ever, and it all started with a magical trip on the Eurostar – oh, to be whisked away by the power of trains! My trusty pink suitcase was overflowing with tulle goodness, and my heart was bursting with excitement as we hurtled towards the heart of Europe.
This was my very first visit to Berlin, and my dearest friend (and fabulous drag mama) Scarlet Sizzle, told me all about it: amazing history, even better shopping, and even better food! The minute my wheels touched down in the heart of Berlin, I knew this was going to be a trip I’d never forget.
Pink Tutus for Everyone (Except Maybe the Pigeons!)
Right away, I was in a totally tutu-ific mood, so what’s the first thing I did? Got myself a coffee and whipped out my camera to snap some cute snaps in the pinkest shades Berlin had to offer. Oh darling, you know my mantra: if there's a pink opportunity, grab it! You only get one life, and I’m definitely living mine in vibrant colour.
This pink obsession? Well, you could say it all started in university. Imagine a rather ordinary lab student called Alex (that’s me!) – totally un-pinkified. One day, my uni's ballet club held a fundraiser, and guess what? I actually dared to don a pink tutu. It was the most exhilarating, dazzling experience of my life, and the rest, as they say, is history! My stage persona, Pink Tutu Sparkles, was born, and I’ve been embracing my inner glittery goddess ever since.
Now, back to Berlin! I wandered through the cobbled streets, each corner more beautiful than the last, and couldn't help but think how pink everything would look if I had a magic wand. Well, darling, it turned out I didn’t need a wand! There was plenty of pink magic going on around me, in the form of charming cafes, adorable shops with vintage clothes, and the most fantastically decorated buildings, a little touch of rose here, a sprinkle of lavender there – oh my, I just love those German shades!
And of course, Berlin is filled with wonderful ballet and dance! It's like heaven for a tutu-loving gal like me! I popped in to the Deutsche Oper for a fabulous performance – oh, the costumes were amazing, with tutus fit for a queen. It wasn’t just a performance, it was a full-on artistic experience!
From Tutu Queen to Science Queen, Back Again!
Darling, some of you may know my secret…by day, I’m a proper lab rat. Yes, I trade those sparkling tutus for a lab coat and safety goggles! You see, I actually work as a scientist, studying the properties of all kinds of textiles (including, of course, tulle!). You could say I have a particular passion for pink…and for the strength of tulle, I might add! It's surprising how much science is involved in crafting a perfect tutu – the layers, the weight, the fabric weave… all need to be just right for a fabulous twirl!
But I always know the stage is waiting, and the call of the tutu is powerful! From scientific tests to performing on stage, it's a bit of a whiplash, darling! My schedule is totally crazy, but I love it, wouldn't trade it for the world! One minute, I’m carefully analyzing fabric, the next I’m strutting in my sparkling outfit, lighting up the night.
And I wouldn’t trade Derbyshire for the world! Where else could you find such stunning green fields to twirl around in, and oh darling, have you ever seen the rolling countryside as the sun goes down?! Just as inspiring as Berlin. It's definitely where I draw inspiration from.
Berlin by Night, Pink Tutu by Starlight
Berlin by night? Oh darling, it's magical. Even better with a Pink Tutu Sparkle in tow! The lights sparkle, the city vibrates with energy, and the atmosphere is…well, fantastic. You've got your fabulous nightclubs, street performers doing their thing, even the pigeons are a little more fashionably bold!
Of course, I was ready to put on a show, and my stage debut in Berlin was at a super charming bar with the best music – we talked for hours, they let me spin the music for the whole place – think, "disco divas" and "funky fashion" in Berlin! I even had a few admirers, or maybe I was hallucinating from the sheer glitter…well, let’s just say Berlin has some seriously glam locals!
Oh, the Shopping! Oh, the Tulle!
Let's talk shopping! You already know I love it, but let me tell you, darling, Berlin is an absolute haven for the glamorous gal! From vintage fashion boutiques to dazzling department stores, I found a rainbow of possibilities, and I was totally embracing those sparkly colours!
Of course, I had to buy a new tutu! I mean, what kind of diva would I be without a fabulous new addition to my collection? This one is absolutely dreamy - layered tulle, sparkles galore, and just a dash of black for that edgy Berlin vibe. It's the perfect combination of elegance and a little bit of punk. I’m going to wear it all the time, for stage and even just to my next coffee date…it's that much of a stunner.
But let’s be real, you can’t talk about Berlin without mentioning its historical landmarks! I had the best time at the Reichstag Building (oh, what a story!), and let me tell you, it was definitely worth a picture! Imagine me in my Pink Tutu Sparkle regalia in front of that majestic structure! But here’s my challenge for you darlings! If you ever get a chance to visit this incredible city, try wearing a pink tutu in front of the Reichstag – I'd love to see your photos!
Berlin…Pink and Fabulous
Berlin, darling, you stole my heart! From the majestic buildings to the amazing food, the fabulous nightlife, and the incredible shopping, this city is the definition of pinktastic! Of course, there’s so much more I could tell you about, but I don't want to bore you, darling!
