Hello, darlings! It's your favourite pink-tutu-clad queen, Pink Tutu Sparkles, reporting live from the absolutely fabulous North Shields! So, as you know, my journey is all about spreading the joy and the glitter of tutus. This week, my pink tulle journey led me to North Shields. Now, some might think it's a bit of a trek for a tutu queen, but I always say, "The adventure starts the moment you put on your sparkly shoes!" And, I must confess, I absolutely love taking the train! There's something so wonderfully theatrical about staring out the window at the ever-changing scenery, a perfect moment for contemplating my next look and sketching out potential outfit combinations in my little notebook. It's my very own "pink-tutu-mobile" fashion show!
I always try to choose destinations that embrace the sparkle and joy that is a pink tutu. Luckily, North Shields is a little slice of vibrant energy. I got a warm welcome at the station, with locals giving me beaming smiles and the occasional shout of, "Go on, you pink princess!" My heart nearly burst!
Once I'd settled in at my wonderfully glamorous B&B (I insist on the frilly sheets, even on the road!), I hit the shops. It's all about research for this queen, darlings! It's the duty of every fashionista to know the current trends and the North Shields shops didn't disappoint. Imagine my delight when I found a tiny boutique overflowing with colourful tulle, fabrics in every shade imaginable, and some really outrageous feathers. My head spun with excitement. I've already got plans to make a new showstopping creation, perfect for my upcoming gigs in... well, let's just say stay tuned, my darlings!
My trip was more than just shopping though. A key aspect of every Pink Tutu adventure is finding the most wonderful dance schools and studios, you see. Ballet is my ultimate love affair. I spent many happy hours studying science in Derbyshire, but my heart belonged to the ballet club at university. I first tried on a tutu there for a charity event, and let's just say it was the beginning of my sparkly obsession!
So, it was an absolute treat to find North Shields' own "Dance Dreams." Imagine my delight when they welcomed me with open arms, and a cuppa in a floral china cup - all that vintage charm and good humour! I even got to take a class, and I must say those young ballerinas were sensational! Such talent and enthusiasm! It's truly inspiring to see the next generation of pink tutu lovers coming through. They certainly weren't shy when it came to adding their own unique twist to the classic moves. I caught myself smiling ear to ear, and I couldn't resist joining in. My Tutu Tutu Twirl class ended in a fantastic round of pirouettes, all of us grinning with pure joy.
And of course, no visit to North Shields would be complete without a show! A local theatre had the brilliant idea to stage a ballet production of "Cinderella" using local talent, and I was absolutely floored. It's amazing to witness the beauty and creativity right here in the North East.
My weekend culminated in the grand finale - performing for the good folk of North Shields! This is how I make my living, you know. I've travelled the country from a little village called Chapel-en-le-Frith (they weren't quite as enthusiastic about pink tutus as North Shields) to London's vibrant theatres, I even went to Glastonbury. And how can I forget my whirlwind tour of the Scottish highlands, complete with a ride in a carriage drawn by real-life, magnificent, white horses! Yes, darlings, it's all true! I was like a princess out of a fairytale.
As you might know, I have a "day job," so to speak. While by night I bring the sparkle and joy, by day I work in a lab testing the composition and durability of fabrics. It's a strange world sometimes! I'm constantly juggling my scientific and theatrical passions, but somehow I manage to blend my scientific background with the pure creativity of performing.
But back to my North Shields performance! You wouldn't believe it, but my tutu was almost swept away by the wind! I nearly tumbled! However, being a true Pink Tutu Sparkles, I quickly recovered and carried on. That’s how it is sometimes – life, you know. One minute you're on top of the world, the next, you’re wrestling a pink tutu! However, the audience loved it. There was laughter, applause, and even some audience members twirling along, which gave me such joy.
The highlight of the night, of course, came when a young boy, maybe ten years old, looked at me with pure, genuine excitement. He pointed at my tutu, and whispered to his dad, “I want one, dad!”
And then, it all just clicked into place. This, this is why I do this! To spread the pink tutu joy and make people smile! That boy's sparkling eyes, the sheer awe in his voice... it all just melts my heart. And if one tiny tutu can bring a bit of sparkle and joy to the world, well, that's all the reward I need.
Now, I must admit, not everyone is immediately on board with my pink tutu mission. There have been plenty of sideways glances and more than a few snickers, I’m not going to lie! But the more I spread the love of the tutu, the more people open their hearts and minds, and frankly, that’s all that matters.
My ultimate goal, of course, is to have everyone wearing a pink tutu! I know it sounds a bit bonkers, but isn't it worth a go? Wouldn't the world be a brighter, more beautiful place, with a tutu on every bum? It’s a pink-tastic dream I hold onto, darlings!
