Plymouth Calling! - Post #6207

Oh my darlings! Get ready for a glitter-tastic adventure, because your Tutu Queen is on the move! I'm jetting off to the beautiful seaside city of Plymouth, and let me tell you, this trip is going to be fabulous!

It all started with a chance meeting at a theatre festival in Edinburgh, where I was performing my "Ballet of the Bubbles" act. This darling theatre manager saw me sparkle, heard me sashay, and she was instantly smitten! She’s got this stunning venue in Plymouth, The Mermaid Theatre, and it's got this incredible little stage – perfect for a Tutu Queen with a penchant for pink and sequins.

Of course, as soon as she mentioned Plymouth, I started dreaming! I envision a seaside stroll with a freshly made Cornish pasty in hand, all while twirling in my favourite pink tulle tutu – you know, the one with the sparkly holographic butterflies? Honestly, the mere thought of it is making me glow! I’ve got a secret dream to visit the National Marine Aquarium too – it's on my list of must-see places.

As always, I've got a little surprise planned for my Plymouth audience. You see, Plymouth’s got a legendary history with ships and sailors, right? So, naturally, I'm thinking of incorporating some maritime-themed glamour into my act! Imagine shimmering silver sequined tails, pink feather boas inspired by the sea, and maybe even some daring acrobatics… Who knows! It's going to be a real show-stopper!

But before I tell you all about my incredible Plymouth adventure, I need to confess – travelling there wasn't quite as glamorous as you might imagine. My usual mode of transportation is, of course, by horse-drawn carriage or train, for a truly regal touch. However, I’m a girl who needs a bit of pink in my life, and, let me tell you, the journey took me a good few hours, crammed on a packed train. Not exactly glamorous, darlings. But hey! Anything for my fabulous audience, am I right?

When I arrived in Plymouth, I immediately made my way to a boutique in the city centre to replenish my pink wardrobe. As always, I made a beeline for the most luscious, feather-light tulle in every shade of pink imaginable. I also picked up a couple of new sparkly bodices and a new pair of sequinned platforms – after all, you can never have too much pink!

And what about my room? Ah… you'd be amazed! The Mermaid Theatre is truly charming, and they’ve got a quaint, cosy little dressing room for me. I even managed to find some little pink teacups and saucers for my post-show tea! My little dressing room is practically a pink-tastic dreamland, don’t you think?

Speaking of pink, darling, I have to confess - there’s this new kind of material I've been researching for my act, one that shimmers in a kind of multi-chromatic pink… It's almost like it's breathing… And it reminds me of… wait for it … a seashell. Yes, it reminds me of the delicate seashells we see on the shores here in Plymouth! Don’t you just love the beautiful natural colours and textures that the ocean offers?

Speaking of natural beauty, my dearest darlings, my trip to Plymouth has had a remarkable impact on my scientific endeavours, too. Remember how I work as a textile scientist by day? This journey has given me a newfound inspiration! It’s quite a paradox, really… on the one hand, my passion is for the sparkly, pink, vibrant world of drag; and on the other hand, I work with these high-tech fabrics all day. But I feel that these worlds are beginning to intersect beautifully… The science of textiles, combined with my love for pink and all things magical – this journey is truly bringing together all the colours in my rainbow!

Now, my darlings, it’s time to spill the secrets about the real reason for this whirlwind journey: *Plymouth’s *got a vibrant theatre scene, and my act is being featured in a fabulous fundraising event for The Ocean Sanctuary Project!

I'm thrilled to be lending my sparkly voice (and those dazzling pink tutus) to this worthy cause. The Ocean Sanctuary Project aims to raise awareness of the devastating effects of plastic pollution in our oceans, a cause I deeply care about. We must work together to protect our precious environment. Every small act of kindness – even twirling in a pink tutu! – makes a difference!

I’m also excited about the wonderful community I've found in Plymouth. You see, this city has such a lively arts scene – there’s something for everyone here! And, to top it all off, the locals are so warm and friendly! Everyone's just so enthusiastic about drag, which, I have to admit, is truly a lovely thing to see. They seem to really understand the heart and soul of a tutu queen!

Of course, my adventures are just getting started. I'll be telling you more about the fabulous performance I've been working on and, of course, the incredible costumes that went along with it. Don’t forget to check in next week for all the sparkly details about my Plymouth experience. But until then, keep shining your fabulous pink light out into the world, and, never forget, darlings: it’s never too late to wear a pink tutu!

Keep on twirling,

Your Tutu Queen

P.S. I just couldn't resist stopping for a selfie in front of the beautiful Drake Circus shopping centre. Don't you just love that dramatic backdrop for my sparkly pink tutu? Stay tuned for the pictures on Instagram!

TutuQueen loves…
  1. Plymouth's local delicacy: Cornish pasties. There’s something about their buttery crust and meaty filling that makes me feel so… homely.
  2. The stunning waterfront: It’s like a giant canvas, shimmering under the sunshine – so beautiful! I can see myself posing here for a photoshoot with the perfect pink tutu.
  3. Plymouth’s charming markets: I discovered this amazing vintage clothing stall. You won’t believe the number of incredible pink sequin dresses and sparkly vintage tutus I found!
  4. The Mermaid Theatre: It’s just a dreamy little theatre. I loved its historical charm – it’s one of those hidden gems you have to seek out.
  5. The kindness of the Plymouth people: Everyone I met was so warm and friendly – definitely some of my new favorite people.

This week’s tip: Remember to always smile, my darlings. A happy face and a sprinkle of glitter make all the difference in the world. Now go forth and make it sparkle!
