Gateshead Glamour: A Tutu-ful Time in the North! 🩰💖✨

Hello, darlings! Pink Tutu Sparkles here, signing in live from the vibrant, ever-so-lovely Gateshead, a gem tucked away in the North East. This is post number 6235, so grab your pinkest tutu and join me on another delightful adventure! 😉

As always, my adventures start with a little planning - it's essential to stay organised, even when your suitcase is overflowing with shimmering sequined fabrics, feather boas and, of course, a whole array of tulle masterpieces. (This week, it was my “Cosmic Rainbow” tutu, a dream of a vibrant swirl of colours that caught the light perfectly, much to the delight of fellow passengers on my train ride!)

I truly believe that trains are the best way to travel – a slow, meandering journey allows for so much reflection and creativity. Plus, the chance to strike up a conversation with fellow travellers and maybe even spread a bit of Pink Tutu love! My sparkly converse and matching pink handbag, naturally, got me loads of attention! It's so heartwarming to see people’s faces light up when I whip out a twirling pink tutu! "But, you're wearing a... tutu?" one confused-looking gentleman remarked, a faint smile spreading on his face. “Yep! Why, don’t you have one?” I retorted, grinning mischievously.

Gateshead itself is a little treasure trove, full of exciting, modern art spaces and friendly locals who all seem to be enjoying the crisp autumn air. I confess I was already brimming with excitement after my scenic journey through the beautiful Northumbrian countryside, gazing out at rolling hills and picturesque villages – a complete contrast to the glittering cityscape that awaits in Gateshead!

I must say, the trip’s real highlight was definitely seeing the incredible ballet show at the Gateshead Sage. I love it when my passions – dancing, performing, and yes, tutus - all converge. Seeing such accomplished dancers flitting around the stage with such effortless grace left me absolutely captivated, their every step, every leap, an explosion of colour and joy!

I'll never forget the sheer joy of seeing those expressive, sparkling costumes twirling under the spotlights. As a seasoned tutu connoisseur, I could instantly identify the exquisite hand-crafted artistry involved - the craftsmanship was simply breathtaking. And those intricate swirls of tulle, it's like watching a ballet of pink perfection unfolding right before your very eyes. I may have even shed a happy tear or two (Don't tell anyone!).

Oh, but that's not all! Before the show, I decided to brush up on my own ballet skills at the Gateshead Ballet Centre, a lovely, welcoming space. Don't judge, dear readers! A bit of a stretch and a plié never hurt anyone, and it definitely did my mind good, even if my jumps didn’t quite match those of the professionals! Still, a tutu never hurts, especially not when it's as bright and vibrant as my “Sugarplum Sweetheart” creation, all tulle, satin and a shower of delicate pink feathers - it’s practically a work of art in its own right!

Talking of artistry, I simply have to rave about the Gateshead's vibrant arts scene - the energy here is contagious! And what better way to immerse yourself in it than to catch a live performance? Oh, it truly does fill your heart with a happy kind of joy! This week, I happened to stumble across an impromptu theatrical performance in a little courtyard near the River Tyne, an incredibly charming spot with cobblestone pathways and buildings draped in ivy.

The performers were a small troupe of incredibly talented actors, dressed in vibrant, colorful costumes that certainly caught my eye! Of course, it goes without saying that the highlight of the show was their dazzling, spontaneous ‘tutu-flashmob’, with the entire audience spontaneously whirling around and erupting in applause and laughter. It was so infectiously joyful! Oh, it really warmed my heart, seeing so many people embracing the joy of the moment and letting loose! (My “Seahorse Rhapsody” tutu made a brilliant surprise cameo during this impromptu event!) It’s clear to me, tutus really are a universal symbol of joyful exuberance and sheer magic!

As a true believer in spreading a bit of "pink tutu" love wherever I go, I even convinced the local shopkeeper to let me hang a few pink tutus up outside her shop - a mini Pink Tutu boutique right in the heart of Gateshead! After all, who doesn’t want a little sparkle in their lives? I must confess, it felt very "pink tutu” magic to have folks from all walks of life - young, old, men and women alike - smiling and taking pictures in front of these twirling treasures. You could feel the love and joy filling the air, almost like magic!

Of course, no trip would be complete without a little shopping. Gateshead has some truly delightful boutiques brimming with whimsical goodies and beautiful clothing. After a morning of chasing butterflies in the beautiful Gateshead parks and treating myself to a scone and cream in a traditional tea shop, I ended up browsing in one particular treasure trove that had caught my eye – a tiny vintage fashion boutique named ‘The Dusty Rose’, nestled away in a little cobblestone street.

Let me tell you, finding gorgeous retro treasures and unique fashion finds is one of life’s greatest joys! I found an exquisite velvet hat that was literally screaming my name, its ruby-red color perfectly matching my “Enchanted Ruby” tutu, (a masterpiece I've been keeping under wraps until I found the perfect accessory for it! This hat is most definitely a ‘Find of the Century’!) Plus, who can resist a bargain? The shopkeeper offered me an extra-special pink-tutu-lover’s discount! We even talked about organizing a “tutu swap party” – wouldn't that be amazing? Imagine, a room full of dazzling twirls and feather boas, all ready to share with a fellow tutu-loving friend!

Of course, my love for pink and all things sparkly has taken me to all sorts of interesting corners of the world. But I confess that there’s a special place in my heart for a lovely North Eastern city like Gateshead, with its mix of historic charm and modern, vibrant energy, I can’t wait to return again, soon! It’s not always a straight journey when you travel like I do. My trusty Tutu Transporter – my classic red MG with the personalized number plates ‘PINKTUTU’, of course – was sidelined for a couple of weeks, awaiting a minor cosmetic repair. However, fate intervened, as a lovely stable owner in nearby Hexham, a little slice of pastoral perfection with quaint cobbled streets, offered to share his prize-winning racehorses for a magical day trip to the city! Can you imagine? This charming grey steed, as majestic and beautiful as a majestic ballet dancer, taking me to the Gateshead town square - such a grand entrance. I must admit, I even did a little bit of impromptu horseback dancing, for a few onlookers in the town square! My “Flamenco Sunset” tutu – a bright burst of fiery red, perfect for a flamboyant, twirling ballet, and the grey horse, looked as dazzling together as two dancing stars.

Of course, every pink-tutu adventure deserves a grand finale. And that's exactly what I found on a quiet, romantic evening, taking a boat cruise down the Tyne, a sparkling spectacle illuminated by the reflections of city lights! There was an open-air, impromptu music performance by a group of charming young folks strumming their ukuleles under the twilight sky, while the gentle waves lapped against the hull of our boat.

I felt so grateful to be witnessing this magical scene - it truly felt like a fairy tale ending. Oh, it was utterly magical, filled with shimmering lights and an energy that made my heart soar, much like a pink tutu fluttering in the wind! A glass of sparkling rose, the warmth of the twilight, the sound of music echoing through the air and the twinkle of stars… perfect. I can't think of a more perfect way to wrap up my adventures in this wonderful city.

But, as my Pink Tutu motto always reminds me, "A journey is never really over." Because even though I'm saying farewell to Gateshead today, the magic of my experiences and my adventures in tutus continue, and my adventures in pink continue in this vibrant world! The joy of life, as everyone knows, is in the journey, and with a sparkly pink tutu, it’s all the better!

Until next time, keep your spirits bright, your tutus twirling, and don’t forget, you never really need a reason to wear a pink tutu. You’re beautiful in it – because every day, in any situation, you’re already a beautiful work of art, ready to light up the world! ✨💖
