I love getting to visit new places, especially when I can fit it in with my busy performance schedule. So, after a whirlwind week of glitter-bombing a local fair in Suffolk, I packed my fabulous fuchsia suitcase, which is always a feat with my huge collection of tutus! – and caught a train straight to Rainham, armed with enough shimmer to rival a disco ball! 💃
This little town is, honestly, the perfect location for a Tutu Queen like me! There's such a charmingly old-world feel to it, which reminds me of the streets of Derbyshire where I grew up. I even saw a little tea shop called "The Rosebud", so obviously, I had to pop in for a cuppa and a cheeky slice of cake. I’m all for supporting local businesses, even when my inner five-year-old screams “let’s get more cake!” 🎂
Now, Rainham, in its quietness, holds an unexpected treasure - a ballet studio called “The Dance Studio”! The second I stepped in, I knew I was in the right place. It's got this amazing sense of warmth, like you're about to go into a warm hug from your favourite, sparkly granny. I felt right at home – so much so, I actually surprised myself by attending a drop-in class! 😉
Now, you might be wondering, Alex, why ballet?! Well, let’s just say, the entire thing started when I, a scientist with a serious case of the analytical, decided to join the university ballet club back in my younger days. That was the first time I ever donned a tutu… and oh my, I never looked back! It felt like an absolute revelation. As the saying goes, the rest is history! ✨
But this wasn't a just any ordinary class – it was Ballet Barre Fitness! A fab mix of elegant moves and serious muscle building! Who knew that graceful twirls could also give your core a serious workout? Me, that's who! Honestly, I was a little bit proud of myself! And, of course, I totally rocked the pink tutu, because let's be real, you can’t have ballet without a sprinkle of Pink Tutu Sparkles magic! 💖
Once the class ended, the instructors let me know they were hosting a "Tutu Tuesday" workshop for charity the following week. Now, this was an opportunity I could not refuse! Honestly, how could I not give a workshop dedicated to getting others to embrace the power of the tutu?! It was destined to be! I knew exactly what I needed to do - give a talk and lead a workshop focused on tutu style and power.
We decided to make it extra special - a glamorous, whimsical “Tutu Twirl Time”! Imagine a workshop bursting with pink and sparkle – all while helping to support an amazing charity. A match made in heaven, wouldn’t you say? 🩰✨
As a self-proclaimed tutu aficionado, I just can’t resist the opportunity to share the tutu love. I'm living proof that the tutu isn’t just for the ballet – it's for everyone. No matter what age, shape or size, we can all embrace our inner dancer! After all, what's life without a little sparkle?
Rainham’s been brilliant, with some stunning architecture that looks like it came straight from a storybook, especially those houses in the older part of town. There’s a lovely green park with benches for people watching – perfect for enjoying a picnic, if you ask me. And speaking of parks, who else thinks Rainham would make a truly spectacular location for a Tutu-themed outdoor event?! It would be fab – I just need to get permission from the council, I’m already sketching the plan for the most magnificent Tutu Garden.
