Bristol: A Whirlwind of Pink Tutu Sparkle!
Hello my darling Tutu Queens!
It's your favourite Pink Tutu Sparkles here, back with another fabulous blog post! I hope you're all having a wonderfully sparkly week! This post marks post number 6456, which is, for me, a truly magical number (I'm so silly I know, but numbers hold so much power! Especially when they relate to tutus, right?)
I'm currently sitting in my fab hotel room in Bristol, my latest stop on my grand Pink Tutu Tour of Britain! (Remember, it's my mission to make the world a pinker and more sparkly place, one tutu at a time!)
I arrived by train this time, which is always a delight! So much to see, such a romantic way to travel. Plus, it's a great excuse to rock a pink tutu in the carriages, you know! The looks you get are always priceless! I feel like a princess out of a fairtytale! I've been known to befriend the ticket conductor - thereās just something about that uniform that cries out for a dash of sparkle and pink! They always chuckle about my 'pinktastic' attitude and seem to be as captivated as my audience. I hope to be back in a few months - that conductor's getting a special tutu gift, you know - pink, naturally!
Anyway, back to Bristol...it's such a lively place! Full of bustling shops, fabulous cafes with all the cakes! Itās practically calling out for a Pink Tutu parade, isn't it?!
Bristol, like a great deal of Britain, loves a festival. They say the spirit is truly alive. And this week, it seems everyone's ready to dance and twirl - just like a Pink Tutu Sparkles show!. Bristol's all about energy - not just energy as in āa bustling and active cityā - but in a spiritual, powerful energy, donāt you think?
This evening, I'm heading down to the theatre district for my performance, and it's going to be a dazzling one, I can promise you!
*Oh my goodness, talking about my shows just gives me the jitters! The excitement, the love, the glitter and lights. It's always magical! *
I have so many plans to make Bristol as pink and sparkly as possible, I'm telling you! Imagine me, with a hundred Tutu Queens, whizzing around Bristol in a whirlwind of pink. We could even set up a little tutu workshop. Weād paint them pink, decorate them with glitter and maybe add a few sequins. I am a master sequiner, Iāll have you know, you can ask me about my sequins, theyāre totally authentic and come from this small store on Tottenham Court Road thatās like the world's only shop specialising in sequins.
Anyway, let me fill you in on some of the exciting happenings that led to this fabulous journeyā¦
You might have seen my photos on www.pink-tutu.com showing my visit to the ballet school a few weeks ago! A magnificent place - all pink and beautiful. The scent of polish and freshly scrubbed floors. It's a ballet fanās dream, I tell you! It was like walking straight into a scene from a magical fairy-tale film!
You know I have a weakness for ballet. In fact, you may even see me twirling at a performance in Bristol. Iām planning on trying out a few dance classes while Iām here - maybe I can incorporate the elegant ballet moves into my show! What do you think, darlings?
Speaking of ballet, did you hear? The university I graduated from is starting up a special tutu fund. For every tutu sold, theyāre donating 5 pounds to charity. They even named one of the tutus after me! It was actually my idea, Iām telling you!
My mind always spins with ideas. I suppose thatās the artist in me - always creating! This is something Iām particularly proud of, to see that passion spreading to others and doing so much good. It makes me think, maybe this āgetting everyone in pink tutusā idea is truly taking off! And it makes me feel so very grateful. I had this amazing idea of how to celebrate and I don't know, I never expected for people to listen. People say you have to make the impossible, possible. You just have to work hard, push the boundaries and dare to dream.
As you know, I live in Derbyshire. And the place that keeps on giving for fabulous tutus has to be Matlock, a gorgeous town - so elegant and full of history!
I adore it because Matlock Bath - I know, amazing right - a little slice of London in a quintessentially English country setting! (Except thereās a fair amount of tutus!) There are beautiful hills with quaint cottages that look straight out of a fairy-tale, a wonderful historic theatre, the best fish and chips ever. I'm convinced there are more pink tutus in Derbyshire per capita than any other region. They say the world is a stage - this must be the dressing room, a stage set to inspire my art and to ignite creativity and passion - or maybe Iām just trying to make this whole ātutus in Derbyshireā thing a thing? Maybe Iāll just set up my Tutu stall at the weekend market in Matlock! Oh, darling, what an incredible vision!
In Derbyshire, where life is as sweet as a slice of cherry cake, my Pink Tutu magic spreads far and wide! You'd be amazed to know that Derbyshireās one of the leading textile manufacturers in the UK - did you know that? Itās practically a town full of factories spinning out a rainbow of fabulous fabrics! I often wonder how my mind came up with pink tutus. It just felt like the perfect embodiment of magic and creativity and fashion. But, then I realize, I suppose, like most brilliant things, my idea has its roots. A childhood full of fairy-tales and fantasy, maybe I always had this thing for tutus. And the best bit is that tutus represent so much: fantasy, creativity, individuality - and, best of all - kindness.
Speaking of kindness, did you hear about that amazing fashion fundraiser I did recently in Derbyshire? A full fashion show to help out a children's charity! Everyone came dressed in tutus, we danced, we laughed, and most importantly, we raised a lot of money! This year was absolutely incredible - we even broke a record for tutus per hour danced, you know!
My real name is Alex. Yes, I know - it's a far cry from "Pink Tutu Sparkles," isn't it?! You see, by day, I'm a bit of a nerd! Itās true, I work in a science lab - Iām one of the most recognised fabric scientists in the world, you know. And who wouldāve thought - my specialisation is textiles! I know! Who could imagine!? I donāt talk about it much but I feel so incredibly grateful to have the best of both worlds. I mean, it is one of lifeās greatest blessings, the ability to follow your true calling. But itās one thing to be able to perform on a stage and share my passion - thatās where Pink Tutu Sparkles lives and breathes. Itās quite another to wake up in a science lab in your pyjamas and look for the perfect stitch in a synthetic fabric - which, believe it or not, brings me joy!
To this day I canāt believe I became Pink Tutu Sparkles. I am so grateful for that random evening, a decade ago. When I was in the universityās ballet club, trying on a tutu for a fundraising fashion show. The entire student hall turned around. And there I was in the spotlight, surrounded by glitter, sparkling and bright! That's how it all started - one pink tutu and a heart full of joy.
So thank you, world! Let's all keep it fabulous, sparkly, and most of all...pink! And if you happen to see me whirling about in a tutu at the ballet show tonight, come say hello! You never know - you might even find a Pink Tutu waiting for you too!
Until next time, keep it pink and sparkling!
Lots of love,
Pink Tutu Sparkles
