Today, my darlings, I’m bringing you all the vibrant, twirly, sparkly loveliness of York, a city as enchanting as a fairytale. Honestly, you'll be positively pouting over how stunning this place is - just wait 'til you see the photos!
I travelled up here by train, of course. Honestly, how could I resist a window seat for the most picturesque of countryside jaunts? It’s not just about the journey for me though, there's just something so incredibly liberating about rocking a tutu on a train - even when dressed as plain old Alex. People look, I strut, I sashay, and the air fills with joy! Imagine it! Pink tulle cascading in the wind, every swaying train carriage a personal dance floor - my heart bursts with happiness every time.
My trip is all about getting my dose of cultural goodness. The moment I landed in York, I practically felt the energy swirling around me – so much history and artistry! You know me, darling - the queen of tutus always has a little ballet in her soul, so you can bet your bottom dollar that the York Theatre Royal was top of my itinerary!
I snagged some tickets to see a stunning production of "Swan Lake" – all fluttering feathers, breathtaking leaps, and emotional drama. I found myself caught up in the story, my heart thumping to the music and feeling a thousand emotions at once! After the show, I was mesmerized by the elegant ballerinas who practically defied gravity with every pirouette – their outfits, of course, were pure ballet perfection - but I thought, "Oh honey, imagine the drama of those movements with a gorgeous pink tutu! Imagine the possibilities!”
It wasn't all about watching the pros, though, my dears! My love for ballet, I can’t tell you how much this love, well, it led me to a wonderful little ballet studio nestled in a back street. My tutu-loving heart just had to visit - you can’t take the ballerina out of the queen, right? It was an absolute delight. There I was, with a whole room of graceful ladies twirling around and listening to the delicate notes of the piano as we followed every graceful move of the instructor. Honestly, I felt as light as a feather - except my feather boa wasn’t very light at all, bless its fuzzy heart!
As any true drag queen worth their glitter, shopping is never a chore for me, and York was practically a retail therapy haven. Honestly, darling, there were shops absolutely bursting with delights for this pink tutu queen. I found a shop brimming with the most exquisite vintage garments - I'm talking exquisite dresses, blouses with incredible lace details and silk scarves fit for a royal! I couldn't resist scooping up a couple of silk scarves to tie around my tulle - oh honey, just wait until you see what I plan on doing with them!
And of course, no trip to a town brimming with history is complete without exploring the stunning architecture. York Minster! Honestly, its grandeur makes you want to curtsy - it is truly a breathtaking structure, with a history as rich and complex as its stunning stained glass windows. But honestly, darling, the best thing about York is its people – they were the sweetest bunch of humans. Everywhere I went, they were welcoming, smiling, and chatty - just as friendly as they are charming, in true York style!
